Looks like those stats don't include postseason games. With the NHL stats you can calculate how many minutes on ice, rather than how many games, each team has and the the TOI/game. The table looks like this: Team | TOI | Games | TOI/Games | Nottingham Panthers | 5924.5 | 400 | 14.8 | Braehead Clan | 4478.8 | 324 | 13.8 | Belfast Giants | 3903.7 | 289 | 13.5 | Coventry Blaze | 1184.5 | 80 | 14.8 | Cardiff Devils | 236.0 | 17 | 13.9 | Sheffield Steelers | 155.9 | 19 | 8.2 | Dundee Stars | 0 | 0 | 0 | Edinburgh Capitals | 0 | 0 | 0 | Fife Flyers | 0 | 0 | 0 | Manchester Storm | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Time is given in minutes, so 10.5 minutes = 10 minutes 30 seconds, etc.

Mosey as a forward gives 7 dmen and 12 forwards, which is enough for 4 lines (with an alternating Dman).

Bison was a bit of a different situation, they were in trouble due to their previous owner, who ran up large debts. Planet Ice took them over reluctantly when that owner did a runner/ran out of money. At the time they had no intention of running the team, there was no other potential owners so they ran them on a shoestring. To reduce costs, they moved them down to the EPL and they now appear to be doing much better. When I went last season, the crowds looked very healthy. Phoenix paid £2,200 a week for ice, this increased by £500 for a mid week game and £1,500 for a Saturday game. They were offered a reduction to £1,800 a week (regardless of mid week or Saturday games) but turned this down. Why would they turn a reduction down? I've no idea! There was a condition in the offer that it would increase by 5% next year and again the year after. To me, this suggests that this was a (minimum) 3 year agreement. My guess (and it's only a guess) is that Phoenix didn't want to get tied down to a long term deal because they want to move to their own arena sooner rather than later. I could be wrong though, and there may have been other conditions that Phoenix didn't agree too. Silverblades didn't offer another ice time deal. It remains to be seen whether a new temporary (and later on permanent) city centre rink ever happens. When they initially announced their plans, it was going to be their rink this year. Then a short while later it was 80% certain to be built before the season, now it sounds as though they won't start the season in it. They've said wherever they start the season will be the same place as they end it, so it looks like a season at Deeside awaits.

Phoenix do still exist. They could not agree to a new ice time agreement with Silverblades for the Altrincham Ice Dome. They are looking to play this season either at a temporary rink (next to Manchester City Stadium) or at Deeside, with a view to a 3-4,000 capacity permanent rink next to man city stadium.
Having lived in Manchester when they were previously in the EIHL, I have questions over whether this will work long-term. Hockey (EIHL & EPL) has always been a struggle at Altrincham, the rink is poorly designed and it remains to be seen how many of the Phoenix fans will stick around in Altrincham to watch the new team rather than the Phoenix, particularly if they get a nice new shiny city centre rink.
Anyway, good to see a 10th team in the league!

Listening to the interview with McEwen, it sounds as though the players have an option to sign with another team and the league have been aware for a few weeks.
I know there is an ice rink just outside Manchester that currently has no senior team

It is true that Neil Black is the sole director of a company called Emperors Entertainment Ltd, you can check on the Companies House Website. It is also true that he owns the domains www.londonemperors.com and www.londonemperors.co.uk you can check these using a whois lookup. It certainly sounds true!

At the recent Steelers fans forum Tony Smith said (I'm quoting from SteelTalk here):
"Possibility still of new teams next year! Still up on air!" . There was also talk of the conferences, I can't find the quote, but it basically said they're here to stay as they help all clubs to earn more money, get higher attendances, and reduce travelling costs. They're open to suggestions for tinkering but it doesn't make fiscal sense to scrap. I imagine that will all change if more teams join

Kwall Wild (prority) Cohen Landry Higgins Jacina Mosey Doucet Would love to see Salters return. Lepine although I doubt it would happen. Looking at his age and EPL scoring this kid looks like worth keeping tabs on. Ivan Antonov. www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=183997On Antonov: From memory, the kid has some real talent. The one question I'd have is if he is physically strong enough yet for the EIHL. All things being equal (injuries and attitude going well) then eventually he will make it, but maybe not for a couple of years. Antonov is pretty small, not sure he's big enough for the Elite yet. Got the skills though, when I saw Bracknell a few weeks ago he was the only decent player on their team. Never give up chasing the puck and quite often only stops skating when he hits either a player or the boards! Give him some training time with an EIHL team and see how he gets on and then bring him in to the team in a few years would probably be for the best. Cownie & Hook could step up now, and I think they should be next season as long as someone is willing to give them ice time.

In games against Erhardt conference teams, Gardiner conference teams are averaging 0.75 points per game, whilst the Erhardt teams are averaging 1.48 points. This is across 83 games. Braehead are doing pretty well against Erhardt teams, and are averaging 1.28 points per game (18 games). The rest of the Gardiner conference are not doing so well, Hull are next with 0.67 points (18 games), then Fife with 0.61 points (18 games, including a few against Nottingham... ), then Dundee with 0.56 points (16 games) and Edinburgh with 0.54 (13 games). For Erhardt teams the average points per game against Gardiner conference teams, Cardiff at doing the best with 1.77 points per game (13 games), then Sheffield on 1.74 ppg (19 games), Belfast 1.39 (18 games), Nottingham on 1.31 (16 games) and Coventry on 1.24 (17 games). These stats include all games, including Cup only games. I've not looked at the stats for Gardiner v Gardiner or Erhardt v Erhardt yet, however looking at the league table suggests that for Erhardt teams it goes Nott(1.4 ppg, 20 games), Belfast (1.35 ppg, 20 games), Cardiff (1.23 ppg, 22 games), Sheffield (1.06 ppg, 18 games), and Coventry (0.41 ppg, 22 games) and for Gardiner teams Braehead (1.67 ppg, 21 games), Fife (1.2 ppg, 20 games), Hull (1.0 ppg, 20 games), Edinburgh (0.87 ppg, 22 games) and Dundee (0.67 ppg, 21 games). These values will change when standalone challenge cup games are taken in to account. I'll have to check those to see if they change much. So on average, every Erhardt team gets more points per game against Gardiner teams than Erhardt teams, except for Nottingham who get 0.09 ppg more on average when they play Erhardt teams. On the flip side, all Gardiner teams, on average, get more points per game against Gardiner teams than they do against Erhardt teams. I will let others decide how they interpret the stats, however I will say that they explain general trends in the league, rather than specific nuances. They also show that Nottingham should not be expected to beat Fife every time, otherwise their average ppg against Gardiner teams would be 2, which it is not. They also show that Braehead are doing better against Gardiner teams than some Erhardt teams (Nottingham, Belfast & Coventry), but only have a better record against Erhardt teams than Coventry. These stats should not take away from Braehead if they win the league, they will have done an excellent job. Would Braehead have won the league if it was 3+3 against all other teams? It's impossible to say from stats alone, however it is statistically more likely they would have not, given the results so far this season. Finally, I was looking at these stats because I was interested to see if Gardiner teams got more points against Erhardt teams if it was the Erhardt team's first game of the weekend or not. If an Erhardt team is playing against a Gardiner team and it is the Erhardt teams first game of the weekend, then average ppg is 1.51 (Erhardt) and 0.62 (Gardiner). If it is not the Erhardt team's first game of the weekend then this changes to 1.4 (Erhardt) and 0.91 (Gardiner). So, next time the fixtures are being scheduled, Gardiner teams should try to organise their fixtures against Erhardt teams for Sundays! Edit: my stats might have some inaccuracies, so I apologise if there are!

Steelers' attendances can be found here: www.steelers-stats.co.uk/ then go to schedule. I believe they get the numbers directly from the club

I think the atmosphere in Europe appears to be much better than at UK games, the Swedish supporters in particular seem to be quite fanatic with large flags, chanting, etc , (Another example: sports.yahoo.com/blogs/puck-daddy/swedish-hockey-fans-put-postgame-celebrations-shame-video-235408854--nhl.html ), Germany etc as well have great atmospheres. When I went to Switzerland I watched 3 games over a weekend. All 3 arenas (Geneva, Lausanna, Biel-Bienne) had large standing sections where the 'noisy' fans stood. At the front of these sections was a man with a drum and a man with a megaphone. The guy with the megaphone would face the rest of the fans (I don't think they actually watched any of the games) and shout out the chants and the rest of the fans would follow on. There was non-stop chanting throughout all 3 games, which was quite impressive, and large flag waving etc. They also gave away free programmes at 2 of the games, and Geneva have a bald eagle that flies on to the ice just before the game

I went over to Switzerland last year and took in a few games and saw Stewart play for Fribourg. He was completely anonymous and I barely noticed him. He seems to have really struggled for points as well these past couple of seasons.

Attendances for the 1st leg of the first knock out round, I've included their regular season average (2013-14) as a comparison in brackets and their attendance as a percentage of the average. Genéve - SaiPa 5,214 (7,722 68%) Kärpät - Vienna 4,239 (6,086 70%) TPS - Lukko 3,642 (5,150 71%, see below) Luleå - Salzburg 2,559 (5,090 50%) Tappara - Frölunda 2,546 (5,686 45%) Sparta - Linköping 2,381 (7,117 33%) JYP - Skellefteå 1,757 (3,802 46%) Fribourg - IFK Helsinki 1,171 (6,570 18%) Apparently TPS included their season ticket holders in that, and this is an image from during the game: i.imgur.com/MLnY7hc.jpg Looks incredibly empty!

I believe that the Arena at Sheffield cannot get the attendance figure to the club in time for it to be added to the gamesheet before it is signed off, hence no attendance on any of the gamesheets. Steelers stats get it directly from the club.
