They were the biggest losers out of the conference system designed to bring stability. Ditto above I hope they find a way to come back for their fans, staff and the eihl.

This sucks.
What a rubbish piece of news to wake up to.
Feel for their fans big time.

Ive just watched Look North news, McEwan says its happened because of the loss of a major sponsor. Let's hope to God someone will step in

Rapid Solicitors were bought out (hence their disappearance from the Elite League website as well). I assume it will be them.
Hull has been going through a fair bit of regeneration, so lets hope someone steps up to the plate.

Quote from the link: "The loss of a major sponsor, increased operational costs, the introduction of ice-time charges as well as the shortage of fans attending our matches have left me with no other choice but to liquidate the club."
Pacha did a fantastic job there last year but the bottom line for many years is the lack of bums on seats and you have to question now if Hull is a viable and realistic venue for ice hockey. Fact of life, if you are not lucky enough to own your own rink then you NEED to get people through the turnstiles to pay the bills.

I think it's a bit more personal than just the loss of a sponsor.
I expect the announcement of a new team shortly to keep the conferences balanced. Sadly for the fans, I don't imagine it will be in Hull though.

Terrible news for their fans this morning.
Fail to see how the conference system helped Hull at all. All those longer trips to Scotland and the loss of travelling fans from Nottingham, Sheffield, Coventry etc.

Can never understand why Hull were put in that conference to be honest & then taken out when the CC was played. Feel so sorry for Pacha & the guys that have signed but also for the fans that went every week. Here's hoping someone steps up & helps them out, we all love our trips to 'Ull'

What a shame, they seemed to be on an up-swing under Pacha and Lauzon too. Feel very sorry for their fans, I hope they can get some sort of hockey to watch in 'Ull. wasnt there a bunch of guys wanted to buy mcewen out last season? Wouldn't he already have tried them?

Would like to think that the Elite league will take over the club, until such times as a new owner can be found, the big clubs such as Panther,Steelers and Giants will have to dig deep in to the pockets, its probably a bit to near the start of the season to let the the club go to the wall.

Sad news but unfortunately not really that unexpected. I've said from day one of the conference system that Hull were screwed and massive losers in the reorganisation, and all to appease the Scottish teams. How anyone thought it was a good idea to reduce the number of visits of their two closest rivals, who also happen to be the two teams with the largest travelling support, is anyone's guess. Wouldn't he already have tried them? Why would someone 'buy out' a team that is desperate and heading for the wall? It'd make far more business sense to let the existing team go pop then pick up the pieces for free. Perhaps this is what is happening? If it's the same consortium who approached McEwan before then this would make even more sense. They owe him nothing, he turned down their approach before. I'd suggest Braehead should have to dig deepest, because they're the biggest beneficiaries of a retained conference system. Regards Doom I'm not sure they're currently that far in the black to be able to use 'their' money to support another team. I'd suggest the lions share of any pot they reached into to support a team in Hull would contain black and yellow tinged funds...

I figured it'd be a sell the club for a pound style deal, whoever he found. As I remember the consortium they weren't looking to buy the Rays, but to setup a different team to take their place. The league backed McEwan and the existing franchise (quite rightly, IMO) at the time. Might be remembering wrong though.

I wouldn't think this will come as a surprise to the league and pretty sure they will have a contingency plan in place already.

I'm sure once Hull have gone by the wayside. The consortium interest would take this chance to take over.Less hockey is now over in Hull, fighting for support with other such sports in the area. Along with a poor conference position and in interesting cup format I'd not bother.
