Yes .One of 4 wild cards but finished in the top 40 zone. Just to think if we had our usual top crowds we would have sent a big message out. Even beat off France in countries best performance.

The team I support, KalPa, was the only one of the eight finnish teams not making the playoffs. Kinda pleased with finnish success in general, but would have been way more pleased if it was our arch-rival JYP instdad not making it through...

Lukko look well set in their last 16 tie, 5-1 up after game 1 against TPS. But Lulea went down 4-2 to Salzburg.

Lulea's Cam Abbott has just been suspended for 1 game, so he'll miss the 2nd leg. Suspended for slashing. Would love to see Lulea and Lukko go through and face each other in the next round.

Attendances for the 1st leg of the first knock out round, I've included their regular season average (2013-14) as a comparison in brackets and their attendance as a percentage of the average. Genéve - SaiPa 5,214 (7,722 68%) Kärpät - Vienna 4,239 (6,086 70%) TPS - Lukko 3,642 (5,150 71%, see below) Luleå - Salzburg 2,559 (5,090 50%) Tappara - Frölunda 2,546 (5,686 45%) Sparta - Linköping 2,381 (7,117 33%) JYP - Skellefteå 1,757 (3,802 46%) Fribourg - IFK Helsinki 1,171 (6,570 18%) Apparently TPS included their season ticket holders in that, and this is an image from during the game: i.imgur.com/MLnY7hc.jpg Looks incredibly empty!

So much for all the hype eh? Looks like this CHL is not of interest to most club followers. We showed the IIHF at least that we like our hockey even if not at the top of the pile in ability.A professional programme for the event and great attendances comparable to most and also when playing away.

Would this drop in crowds happen IF panthers ever went into a euro league ?
I think it probably would but not quite to such an extent, some of those crowd figures are very poor.

Lukko 1-3 Lulea end of 1st period 1/4 final CHL arena looks empty again Lukko's arena is always empty on that side, for all their games including league ones. You have to put these attendances into context. Lukko for a mid-week game get 3,000 people and that is for a well established league game. If Lukko get anywhere near that for a mid-week game in the CHL, which is a 1st year tournament with no history then it is very promising for the CHL
