Can someone confirm the # of Import & Dual National spots the league allows next year?
And is that posted anywhere?
Cheers

For next year it's a total of 13 imports, made up of 11 who require work permits and 2 who don't (dual national, Europeans). An import in our terms being a player not trained in the UK. Original announcement:

Also, zzzzzzzzzz. You make a great signing and the 1st thing you think about is Gump and the cage..... I would imagine Roy's main reason for signing a new contract is a decent pay rise. Which he obviously warrants btw.

A re-signing like this wouldn't happen if things were as gump has insinuated....Hopefully he'll now give it a rest from making his sly comments. As for the signing.....very pleased with it. Roy won't score many highlight reel goals, but they all count the same and not many players have that ability to regularly score those dirty goals from a few feet out....Talbot was the last player we had with that ability.....I think Ling was similar for you folks. Having watched as a neutral, I would agree with Doom about Roy's qualities. He sits in front of goal & is willing to get in dirty. In contrast, Forney was a quality sniper - the two of them on the same line showed some instinctive plays. I think having Roy sign-up is a good thing for the league & wish more overseas players would do this yet also recognise the transient nature of hockey.

I was thinking he would be gone, great signing but who's going to be paying, with 9 games at ice Sheffield with 1331 avg and less than 5K at the motorpoint and O'connor only arrived thanks to sponsors !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's actually 6 games at Ice Sheffield next year. And for your reference the club make more money on 1300 at Ice Sheffield than they do on 3500 at the Arena, which is the reason some games are played there.
Even with the early season ice issues this year Tony Smith has said the club made a small profit.
Having players like Roy in the EIHL is great for the league, whoever they play for.
Onwards and upwards, whatever you and gump may suggest.

That small profit will not be enough to go around, do you think other players will require more money, or will the likes of Forney and Fretter etc be let go,

I say well done to Sheffield for appearing to spend a greater % of their money on players than we do. This season they signed some expensive looking players, won the league and haven't gone bust. Fair to the horrible Orange Yorkies. I wish we spent the same % of our available budget as they do. If we did we wouldn't have finished miles off the pace in the league AGAIN or have missed out on the POFW AGAIN!

That small profit will not be enough to go around, do you think other players will require more money, or will the likes of Forney and Fretter etc be let go, I've no idea how small a "small" profit is and no idea how much extra the players may want so can't answer your question.
But, it's not all about ticket sales. Granted that is the biggest income but you need to add into that merchandising, 50/50 draws, shirt off your back raffle, auctions etc etc. You can't get near our merchandising stands on game nights, the tills are rolling all night. The much maligned 50/50 draw is a real benefit too. That draw used to sit at about £400 a game, it now stands at over £2000 on average a game. Some games way over £3,000 nearer £4,000. That's at least £30,000 of extra income per year, that's the wage of a 1st line player, just on more effort on the 50/50.
I think rather than looking for non existent problems Tony Smith should be applauded for seemingly turning a forever financially failing franchise into one that makes a profit and competes at the top. He's done a great job, just as Neil Black has done in Notts and Glasgow. The EIHL is all the stronger for it.

So if we have no idea what Steelers spent I would think that you have no idea what Panthers spent then or are you holding back on info, Panthers must have spent a large amount what with CHL and at what cost would you say keeping Robinson after the CHL and Getting Higgins to leave Giants.

Great signing for Steelers & the EIHL.
Reference the budget conversation, some Panthers fans frustrations with our owner are well known. I'm sure if we'd spent what many of you believe Steelers have we'd all be happier.... No?!
Imo the Steelers target on ice success very well & don't go chasing the money as obviously as our owner. I accept that I have limited knowledge of the topic though so am happy to be corrected.... Although I doubt anyone actually knows the real numbers & an element of sour grapes is present.

So 1st liner gets £30K what will Roy have been offered this time. Roy would get in any of the EIHL teams so it must big numbers.

He's being paid £200k for the season and will be offered a company Skoda. No worries though, because the 50/50 is projected to be roughly £2 million. That's the business sorted.....Now back to the hockey... Regards Doom

Hope this is a windup.. would expect roy to be in a much better league next year than ours... People keep saying this, but he never really made the step up from ECHL to AHL. I just wonder if he's a player who is exceptional at a particular level (EIHL/ECHL), but doesn't have the skating ability to move up and make an impact at a level above (DEL/AHL). Regards Doom
