I agree with jord, in effect he is more likely an assistant to the coach. We also have Strachen.

How far is each team now currently off having it’s full roster signed, and how many of those have arrived in the uk? Just wondering how we currently fare against the rest of the league.

For his on ice production he's just not worth a uni deal. I don't know the numbers, but for example if a uni-course is worth £8k in a salary negotiation, does it matter if you are saving the £8k off a £30k player or a £50k player ...its the same both ways to me as it simply allows the £8k to be spent elsewhere within the roster. If its utilised on a cheaper player that really wants a uni-course, and there is a high end expensive player that you want that is not interested in uni, then surely that has to be the way to go?

www.icehockeyuk.co.uk/2018/07/17/important-changes-for-iihf-official-rule-book/The IIHF have published the new IIHF official rule book for the period 2018 to 2022 and it brings with it some substantive changes to the playing rules. The IHUK Referee Section has prepared the attached briefing which goes through all of the changes to the IIHF rules from the previous 2014-2018 book. Ice Hockey UK referee-in-chief, Joy Johnston, said: “It is important to note that the EIHA, SIHA and EIHL are finalising their in-house rules and rules of competitions for their various leagues, which may not adopt all of the rule changes made here by the IIHF. As soon as these are finalised they will be released. “For now, this briefing note focuses purely on the IIHF rule book and the changes which the IIHF have made.” “Some of the major changes include the addition of a new penalty for ‘late hits’ which will definitely require a shared understanding between the coaches, referees and players – particularly in regard to the difference between a ‘late hit’ and ‘finishing your check’. “Another major rule change is the deletion of ‘injury criteria’ for calling a penalty. This has been replaced by the wording ‘recklessly endanger’. “This, of course, meaning that a player can be injured and the penalty assessed no longer needs to be a major/match penalty. This leaves the referee to penalise the intention rather than the consequence of the action. “There are a number of other minor changes such as the inclusion of a 5+Game option for slew-footing in addition to a match penalty and the deletion of the phrase kicking motion as it relates to scoring goals, which means any direction of the puck into the net by the skate would result in a no goal decision. “The briefing note provides background to all of the changes made and it will be for the EIHA, SIHA and EIHL to decide whether all of the changes are adopted in full or in part in relation to their in-house rules and rules of competition.” IHUK Referee Section – Guidance on new rules IIHF rules 2018-22 www.icehockeyuk.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IHUK-Referee-Section-Guidance-on-New-Rules-IIHF-Rules-2018-22.pdfwww.iihf.com/fileadmin/user_upload/PDF/Sport/IIHF_Official_Rule_Book_2018.pdf

Gleason Fournier returns for another season at Cardiff, well pleased. How is the Cardiff forum going?
Are you as well pleased on there as you are on here so much lately?
As long as they don't come in to troll, I personally like it that some fans from other opponents can, and do, drop in and join the discussions.

eliteleague.co.uk/view/eliteicehockey/latest-news/news_504581www.eliteprospects.com/player/37667/josh-mcfaddenSheffield Steelers head coach Paul Thompson is expecting newly-signed defenceman Josh McFadden to play a key role for the club. The 27-year-old is the latest player to commit to the club for the new season after arriving from the University of Guelph, where he’s spent the last two campaigns. And Thompson has high hopes for his latest arrival as he plots a title challenge in 2018/19. “We’ve signed an experienced campaigner,” he said. “He has good size and is in great shape and we’ve done a lot of work on him as a player. “We love some of the plays he is able to make and I expect him to be a big part of the club. I’m also looking to him to log good minutes and certainly contribute on the powerplay. “Josh is still only 27 and has a great major junior career behind him with Sudbury Wolves where he was captain and the club’s top scoring defenceman. “After that he went back to school where he was an all-star player with the University of Guelph.

We not limited on the number of brits, we can have as many as we want. 14 imports, 3 u23's and the rest made up with senior brits would total 22 max allowed on the bench. On a game night we can only play 5 senior brits though can’t we, we could sign as many as we want and rotate them from game to game but I doubt any of them would want to do that, which means some would move elsewhere probably. If we ice 14 imports we can only ice 5 senior Brits. If we iced 13 imports we could ice 6 senior Brits ... etc. A bench of 19 (max 14 imports), +3 u23s. That’s my belief.

STEELERS SIGN YOUNG DEFENCEMAN GRIFFIN eliteleague.co.uk/view/eliteicehockey/latest-news/news_503662Sheffield Steelers have signed 16-year-old defenceman Jordan Griffin to their apprentice programme. The Bradford born blue liner featured in the NIHL last season for both his home town Bulldogs and Deeside Dragons, as well as captaining the Bradford under 18 side. Griffin also represented Team GB at the IIHF Under 18 World Championships (Division 2A), helping the national side secure gold and promotion to the next tier. “The Steelers are committed to the apprentice programme and bringing through the best young British talent that we can.” Steelers Head Coach Paul Thompson said. “We have all seen the progress of Liam Kirk and the opportunities that are ahead for him this summer. “Jordan trained with us several times last year and I was impressed with how he improved every time we saw him. He took in the information that we were giving him and we liked his desire to get better.” Griffin will join Kieran Brown and Cole Shudra as apprentices at the South Yorkshire side next season, with young starlet Liam Kirk set to move to North America following a breakout campaign which him gain NHL interest ahead of this summer’s draft. “Jordan is a big kid for his age,” Thompson continued “and the fact that he was a defenceman was a big factor for us as we wanted to bring into our apprentice programme someone in this position. “He will practice with us every day and also play a part in our preseason exhibition games. We will then take a look at the best place for him to play because game minutes are vital for his development."

www.panthers.co.uk/home/three-home-three-away-to-decide-titleEIHL CONFIRM LEAGUE STRUCTURE FOR 2018-19 SEASON The Elite Ice Hockey League Board have confirmed the 11-team league structure for the upcoming season. At the EIHL League Meeting today, The Board approved a straight 11 team league with each team facing each other 6 times - 3 home & 3 away. The structure replaces the former league model that saw clubs play the teams in their own conference more times than the teams in the other conferences. The 3 conferences will still remain, with all league games against conference opponents counting towards the Conference Championship. The Gardiner Conference will only have 3 teams instead of 4, after the Edinburgh Capitals failed to secure an ice time agreement for next season. The new 11-team format means that the league will be played over 60 games instead of 56, giving each club 30 home league matches instead of 28 last season. The structure for the Challenge Cup will be confirmed in due course and announced after the EIHL Fixtures meeting in late June. A spokeswoman for Panthers said:”With eleven teams this straight formula was the obvious outcome. The conference system has been great for the league and has helped the businesses grow. "The conference titles still exist, which is right, but it is also good that the league championship will be decided by the teams playing the same opposition the same number of times.”

Is the Elite League board meeting tomorrow? I might have got the date wrong but i'd expect some kind of decision to be made then Apparently to be decided tomorrow yes. Jeez I can’t wait to see what kind of balls up the EIHL make of this. Perhaps they will start with an 11 team league, see how it goes, then if they don’t like the way it’s going change the rules again in February ! 🙄😂 Will all outcomes be a balls up, or are there outcomes where you could say 'well done eihl' ?

The cross-conference games wouldn't add up though. We need 16 (I think) games against that conference in the current set up, we'd have to play odd amounts against each. You are right. Gardner teams would end up playing 8 cross conference teams =32games v patton and erhardt playing 7 cross conference teams = 28games. This could be negated if a patton teams plays two erhardt team an extra once home and away.. or even potentially all 4 different cross conference teams for 2home and 2away... time for the m+s carrier bag to make a reappearance!

If the Gardner conference consisted of just stars/fife/clan they would need to play each other 6 times home And 6 times away to get the 24 conference games that the other conf team get playing each other 4x home + 4x away. Not great but the numbers add up.
