Will always remember when Steelers brought in Joel Laing. Now he was a exceptional goalie and had greats stats, but when his defence were only conceding 20 odd shots a game it somewhat inflated them. I've noticed that Steelers have a tendency to award their visiting teams very low SOG counts. Whether that's actual or they perceive low shots against to be a "badge of honour", I'm not sure. What it does though, is deflate goalie stats. Greenfield had some pretty grim, statistically, games. 9/12 (Saves/shots) twice 11/14 13/17 All at home, all <80% SP. More shots recorded, his stats look better.

But that was first half of the season before Giants were the powerhouse they became following the changes they made. Prior to that they were a pretty decent, but not spectacular, team. As were their goalies. Jones had a stellar start for Panthers, then a run of poor games, for whatever reason, ending it and ending up just above league average when all’s said and done. They’re the facts. We could argue all day, doesn’t prove anything.
I would argue a very good goalie is a very big part of the jigsaw of success though.

Probably cos CN worked out he was a terrible netminder quite quickly. Should never have signed him - another GG signing Yes indeed, the same Dubeau who uncannily had almost identical stats to Jones,a goalie who for some rather unfathomable reason half the fan base seem to want back next year ! 🙄🤔 Anyone who's seen them both in the flesh will tell you Jones was the "better" goalie this season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Corey takes him to Dresden myself DEL2 imports are called on to do the bulk of the scoring, so it would be a significant step up for him if he does that. He may well play abroad next season, though. It would be good for his game I think. Different ideas, training methods, team mates, situations etc. His goal must surely be to make the GB squad in future?

Oh grow up pidge, its not really about the coach its more about having the best players even Corey won the league one year with having great players... It is alot to do with the coach... Wrong again Why haven't steelers cleaned up with the budget smithy Gabe fox... Probably because he isn't all that.. and I said exactly that the day he was announced and hey presto You haven’t got a great record judging Steelers player signings though have you? 😂

Greene King supply the Arena, I suspect that’s where that has come from. It could easily be the thin end of a wedge, I hope.

A lot of the comments are pretty negative which seems a bit harsh on Paredes. Ligue Magnus coach of the year, took a tiny club to compete at the top end of the French league. Seems a bit unfair to take people obvious misgivings with the club out on him. Haters gonna hate. Coached Baillargeon last season; 2 years ago, Owre from Giants, Sherbinin (Flyers), Tait from Flames and Kearney too. So isn't new to the kind of player who does well in the UK. Good business to get the deal done early. Lets him go for the players he wants. Good luck to him.

All rather strange and typical of EIHL inconsistency. Come on Iggy, where's the rule that says both refs have to call a penalty for it to be a proper one? It doesn't even have to be the closest ref. Either will do, and did. That's not "EIHL inconsistency", that's the game with 2 refs. Happens the world over.

I don't see the ref behind the goal line shaking his head as the foul is committed? He's looking straight at it though, doesn't call it. That said, you only need one ref to call it, Ciampini was saying the nearest ref didn't call it, but that's irrelevant. There was absolutely a hook/upward slash on the play, but Martin sure sold it well, you could've given 2 for embellishment I'm sure... And a goal Greenfield will want back, he left a lot of net up there.

You could play the quarters as a series, and keep the final four setup as is. Maybe it'd only be best of 3 to begin with, but that'd be a start. At least it'd make home advantage more of a thing. Looking up Paredes the other day, I notice the French have 3 rounds of best of 7 series for their playoffs. Yes it can be done if there's foresight.. or are we saying the EIHL doesn't match up to the french league.. No, just that the French do it differently. It's largely pointless having a pop all the time, it isn't changing until at least this side of 2030.

So how much do we think weekend pass tickets will be in 6 years time? Surely they won't freeze them for that long... Are they actually going to make the effort and improve the experience for fans for a change or is it going to be same old same old 😴 I'd advise asking the league those kind of questions, given that a) it's their party, and b) no-one on here knows the answers.

The only problem with the group stage format is it becomes very samey with the CC competition. I think both comps need a revamp to make it all work better. Agreed completely.

You can't go 3-0 down in the first 10 minutes of a game you have to win and expect much. After that, barring the giveaway, there wasn't much in it. That kind of pass (short, low percentage pass across the slot when under pressure) has plagued this team all season, and Caruso isn't generally the culprit. Maybe Hopkins thought he was open and didn't see Conway, so when the pass came, it was compromised. Grim to watch, however it came about.

Given (according to EP) he scored 4 league goals (3 of which were vs Murrayfield) and 2 cup goals in his time here, I think your memory may be letting you down there, unless it was a pre-season game? The other thing I remember is seeing him in the bar. He was built like a brick privy. Triangular from the waist up.

It is what it is. For all my hockey life, the playoffs have been a 3 (serious) game weekend, at one venue. Exactly like Colleges in NA do it, it's not unheard of. A completely neutral venue was, and would be, ideal, but that ship has sailed. For all other teams, at least it's an "away" weekend. So, it is what it is. You can not like it, but you can't change it for another 5 years. If you're that excited to make it as good as it can be, feed back to the league, but I suspect that won't happen as "they never listen". I'm sure people have more to complain about than that.

Yes, agree, but objectively, you can’t argue much against the Devils that are in there ? Top 6 in the charts should give you a decent shout at a “team of the year” berth? But also yes, it would’ve been nice to have at least one slightly wild card in there. If not Sanche, who? Deluca? Curran?

The top 6 forwards in the league are in the 2 teams. 2 of them are Devils. Crawford was the top points scoring D man. Not sure that’s overly controversial? If anything, Kozun’s SP was better than Greenfield’s? I suppose Greenfield gets the nod for playing every game?

Far too much Cardiff in the two All Star teams. Top 6 league scorers are the two forward lines, though.

Some very daft looking choices certainly, but this is the EIHL. Only thing I can think with the goalie choice is that Besko only actually played 18 league games and a couple in the cup, Greenfield played virtually every minute possible in the whole season. Why not put Greenfield in the team of the year then lol. This pretty much proves a goalie can play every game so when goalies are signed and the old line comes out and says they need to sit overtime, utter nonsense .. if a goalie is decent he plays every game. It's not as if the pace of the game over here is NHL levels hey It can be done, as Greenfield and Owen prove. But it wasn’t Steelers intention to have 1 goalie all year, and the two best teams in the league don't, so I’m happy to have a choice on any given night.

75k euros for 35 weeks for your top players is about 2 grand a week. Much more than EIHL pay? Rather makes a mockery of only £8k - £12.5k a week for a WHOLE team of 20 in the EIHL doesn’t it. An average of about £500 a week per player. 🙄 There’s a few UK teams right royally having the fans pants down here, all because of the little teams holding the purse strings ! I'm sure you'd love to play Steelers, Giants and Devils more. As in only them, all season. Bring back the ISL!

I thought Chalmers was removed as CEO, not that he'd left the club completely? (Was it ever confirmed that he'd left the club's employment full stop?) Is he thus now in a different role?
