Mostly by people who believe anything they see or hear on that there internet. Or Daily Mail readers. Or those who have a friend who works at QMC who is if i recall a “band 8” manager on almost £70k a year who openly tells me her position is relatively unnecessary and money for old rope. And thus you can extrapolate that single data point to cover the whole of the NHS. And ignore the article referred to. Righto.

They ought to approach the NHS for sponsorship, they’re very big on having too many office wallers and managers than they are spending money at the sharp end where it counts ! Ahh, this chestnut. It's complete rubbish, but often repeated. www.nhsconfed.org/articles/are-there-too-many-nhs-managersMostly by people who believe anything they see or hear on that there internet. It will indeed. I see no difference whatsoever between a Chief Executive Officer and a Chief Operating Officer. And yet thousands of companies have both, including almost every plc. Until you know what both do exactly, there’s little mileage in speculating. I can’t imagine Mr Black will be mad keen on paying 2 people to do the same thing, though.

Apologies. I could've worded it more clearly. My point is mostly that "better" is a very subjective word in this context. Is Tetlow "better" than Clements, as D man for the GB hockey team? We could argue all day, which makes it pointless. I'm not sure it's "a given", but your opinion is clearly that. Pete Russell's is different, unless Clements has taken his name out of the hat for some reason we don't know. What would be interesting is some detailed stats to try and show the opinions above in a more objective light. In terms of +/-, Tetlow was even on the season (corrected -2, 54 game projection -5), Clements -8, on teams with similar goal conceded. Panthers conceded more at even strength (154 vs 150). Some measure of relative shots or chances per 60 might be instructive? Interesting their average TOI last season was 1 second different. Interestingly after icing in the last three games at the WC with a combined scoreline of 15-3, only Tets and O'Connor come close to even with a -1 rating so far. So clearly PR rates him defensively or thinks he brings something important to the team; Ruopp and Jones making way for Tets in the past three games. Based on stats from IIHF website at time of writing, post game And both are viewed as constantly defensively iffy by the majority of posters on here?

Why "Surely"? Just because you don't "rate" a player doesn't mean everyone has to do the same? PR perhaps has a bit more practical hockey coaching experience than any of us on here, no? I strongly suspect he probably knows what he's on about, and what he wants. pardon me for stating my opinion - but i'd say it was a given that David Clements is at the moment a better d-man than Josh Tetlow, in all aspects of the game. He's better in his own end, better at reading the play, a better skater, has a better shot, and can take care of himself. I do rate Tetlow (probably more than a lot on here), his whole hearted approach, his willingness to learn and that he was willing to go out of his comfort zone to Finland to get experience, Josh is improving and may still in the future, but I'm surprised that Josh is in the team if Clements is available. Just my opinion. Apologies. I could've worded it more clearly. My point is mostly that "better" is a very subjective word in this context. Is Tetlow "better" than Clements, as D man for the GB hockey team? We could argue all day, which makes it pointless. I'm not sure it's "a given", but your opinion is clearly that. Not sure how much they pay but I'd expect, given the apparent gold mine that is the EIHL, it's not a life changing amount. In terms of performance of the deal, it's more about reach and brand awareness than team performance, surely. Nice if they win the league, but the sell is reach. With that in mind, and a personal bugbear of mine, the club tweeting that there is a "fanbase of 160,000" is cobblers. There are 10-15,000 people you could call "fans", most of whom attend multiple games. Attendance may be 160,000 over the season at all games, but a lot of them are the same people, attending 30 times. To play devils (no, not those ones) advocate, the 160,000 number is actually important in relation to sponsors, but "fanbase" is not the right word. If I'm wanting to pay for a sponsorship, I want metrics to judge the value of it to my business (assuming I'm a serious sponsor/large business). One of those numbers is the real "fanbase" which is something like the 10-15,000 (possibly more depending on where you draw lines), but it is important how many people are through the gates, how many jerseys are sold, how much airtime and exposure their logo will get. The other thing that is useful for adverts/sponsorship is repeat exposure, those 160,000 attendees might only be out of 10-15,000 people, but there is still value in the same people seeing your branding/hearing your name 30 times. I mean the exposure over the last 6 years for instance means the logo will look weird because the NBS logo has been on top of the logo on every jersey in that time. The impression made on regular attendees is far greater than someone who attended 1 game in the last 6 years. I imagine if you contacted the club for a significant sponsorship, you'd get far more detail than the 160k in the tweet, so if anyone owns a business....... Fair points all. The "160,000" and the "fanbase" are separate things. Apples and oranges if you like.

EIHL contracts mean next to nothing. If Panthers want him a deal will be done im sure. Talking of Clements, why isn't he in the gb squad at the wc ? Surely PR can't rate Tetlow a better player than him Why "Surely"? Just because you don't "rate" a player doesn't mean everyone has to do the same? Will be interesting to see how Constable turns out. You'd imagine Moore has a good read on the current NCAA talent from his time as DHO at Princeton Players direct from college can be very handy in the EIHL. Generally quick, skilled, high compete levels. College hockey is a pretty high standard.

The amount of money they were paying ninth place probably tipped the scales. So... Everyone thinks the Cup is rubbish, and the only thing we can agree on is they wouldn't do it like it's being done. That or kill it.
I'm in the "kill it" bucket, it serves no purpose, for me. If the teams need the games to be financially viable, play more league games, but the issue with that would be probably making it unbalanced in terms of games vs opposition numbers, like the NHL? Someone would have to play Steelers more, that would probably be us. Someone would have to play Fife (An "easy" game, some on here would say) more etc etc. Cue whinging about how the league is rigged... (Rather than perhaps thinking about working out how to beat Sheffield...)
IIWII. Go or don't.

Revenue maximisation? That's called a well-run business, isn't it? Depends if your an owner or a fan does that. What a good well run business does is listen to its customers and …the EIHL just don’t do that ! But haven't you been saying for ages that the Cup format is rubbish and needs looking at? Look, I'm not sure I like the new format either, but here's the thing. The League has listened to the fans who told it that the Cup format was pants. In its wisdom, and in response to the fan survey, it has come up with a new formula. Not perfect it seems, and it appears that you cannot please all of the people all of the time (shock horror, newsflash) but it seems all the clubs have backed it. You are quite welcome to boycott all Panthers home Cup fixtures. I suspect this will be very easy for you, as you currently boycott all Panthers home fixtures full stop. To "hope it backfires" seems a bizarre attitude, but I'm not surprised that's how you think. It might be nice to give it a chance to start with. Then you can whinge away when Giants get into the semis, beat a "decent" team there and then beat a "decent" team in the final. Fill yer boots. The league is the priority for me, and it's a free country, so I probably won't attend any of the Cup games. But I didn't this year either. It's no skin off my nose, I'm not outraged in any way, shape or form. Don't like it? Don't go. Seems a peculiar thing to want to die on a hill for.

This new format makes no sense, I'd scrap the cup completely, finish the league games slightly earlier and improve the playoffs to have 3 game series for the quarter and semi finals. Won't happen though cause they like the playoff weekend event, which I personally don't as you have to book tickets so early that your own team might not even make it to the weekend. But that supposes that the ONLY reason for the Challenge Cup at all isn't the extra revenue at the beginning of the season that it generates. There is NO OTHER REASON for the Challenge Cup at all. The tight-knit EIHL is just a revenue generating monopoly with only ever one goal in mind - Generate MAXIMUM revenue for it's little group of owners. Why else would it even exist? Revenue maximisation? That's called a well-run business, isn't it?

Goes back further... Canada 28 Golds, 16 Silver, 9 Bronze for 53 medals. Most successful nation in history of ice hockey WC. Only the Soviet Union comes close to golds won on 27. Next closest....12 golds. Finland have 4. I do wish the Canadians would take the competition seriously. What a bunch of slackers and underachievers. Don’t know why they bother tbh In 53 world championships, if they took it seriously, they surely could've won at least 76 gold medals. It's a no brainier.

our future in this group won't be decided until next week, AUT v NOR on the 19th, GB v NOR on the 20th and GB v AUT on the 21st. We aren't likely to pick up any points before then, but we ought to be building the performances game by game. The result didn't look good yesterday but it was our 2nd game in two days, Tetlow played instead of Ruopp, and the Finns cottoned on to Kirk being our danger man so kept a close eye on him. Kirk will be a marked man, and if you nullify him and his line, I'd expect us to struggle to get any consistent offence at even strength. Thus, PP will be crucial, but I saw one in the Canada game that was excellent. Didn't score but had Canada well and truly reeling. We can dream.

Nope I’m saying Canada don’t take it seriously enough, even Don Cherry said the same thing a few years ago. You’ve just become far too accustomed to being happy accepting a team not doing all it could. Canada's last 3 tournaments: 2021 Gold 2022 Silver 2023 Gold Slackers! What were they doing in 2022? It's outrageous, fielding a team full of half baked nobodies, they should just be able to name their team and take the gold. Why even bother playing the games? God knows why all the other teams even turn up...

Wait did those goalposts just come off their moorings again? Still arguing that that's Finland best squad I take it? Nope I’m saying Canada don’t take it seriously enough, even Don Cherry said the same thing a few years ago. You’ve just become far too accustomed to being happy accepting a team not doing all it could. Ah, the old "they're not doing all they could" mantra. At the end of the day, as far as I can tell, playing for your country is optional? The players have contracts with their clubs, not their countries? Some players really like to do so, and make that choice. Others simply don't. So, for Canada to "take it more seriously" they'd have to compel players who have probably played the thick end of 100 games this season (and therefore probably be looking forward to a bit of a rest/holiday, given all the grief their bodies have taken) to turn out a few more times, on the other side of the world, playing with totally new team mates, for a 2 week "championship" that means even less in the scheme of things than the President's Trophy? Possibly aggravating niggling knocks or injuries? Crosby, for example? Played at the same time as a lot of would-be eligible players are still playing for their clubs anyway? How would you make that happen?

An 8 nil hammering unfortunately. Maybe back to Whistle for the next game...? Then again Finland seem to take the World Championships very seriously, unlike Canada who seem to turn up every year with their “C” team. 🙄 38 Finns in the NHL this season. 4 of them in this Finnish team. 🤣

Think the fact panthers don’t find themselves ‘up there’ and in the mix anymore doesn’t help matters. Exactly. Where would you go,a serial top three team or one that flits around between 5th and 9th. It’s a no brainier ! So is it money or trophies that people sign for? Seems to vary depending on the agenda being pushed?
