Add Kovaks, last night he was completely ineffective. At least when Pither and Hurtubise aren’t scoring they are contributing in other areas. As and when we get back to full strength he’ll be fighting for a spot on the bench.
As for last night, good gritty performance and a great atmosphere.

The rumours aren’t true after all, we’re not a bunch of homers,
So much for payback and revenge huh and against a very depleted Giants team.
I did think we controlled the first 40 minutes quite comfortably, Garnett saved us a few times though. Doty’s penalty was unnecessary and stupid, not sure if Pithers was a penalty at all.
Keep up the good work Panthers...

According to EIHL game summary we only had 20 shots on Whistle, of which only 3 in the 3rd. Sounds like it was a dull game with not too much effort from the panthers. So glad I didn’t go. I quite liked Chermo’s approach and his honest interviews in the beginning but they are wearing a little thin now... with his comments on “work to be done” cos we don’t seem to be putting it into practice on game night.

I thought it was in Glasgow where they couldn’t review the goal due to “technical” issues. In Fife the official ruled it out and then refused Chernomaz the review. So he went ape. Could well have got it wrong it was a long weekend up there..

Can only assume this is Thommo’s doing requesting reviews as they were only given as minors. I hope Cherno and the team see steelers for what they are make sure we don’t let them win any of our league games. My loathing for the squeelers has gone up another notch...

The optimist in me says 1-5 Devils, then the realist side mocks the optimist at the fact we'll even score a goal! And this is why I don’t do score predictions. great game, great effort, some good goals and a couple of fluky ones. Payback is sweet.

Usually when Panther's announce they are looking to recruit, forum members are all over it scouring Elite Prospects and posting links to potential players. Given there has only been a handful of these posted it's a fair assumption there's not many players available, therefore we shouldn't be surprised no one has been signed.
As frustrating as it is the best we can hope for is finding the right player(s) is top of the club's priorities and we'll get some news sooner rather than later.

From what I understand NB & GM have a budget meeting in the off season and the budget is agreed. CN then does his recruiting, GM does the final negotiations on salary / contract etc. So long as the team is within NBs budget he is not interested on who comes in. Does the GM suggest what type of player is recruited??? You could well imagine him saying we want a franchise player ala McGratten to draw in the crowds.
If mid season it is felt additional players are needed GM gets approval from NB and the players salary amount is agreed, CN then goes searching.
In Shalla's case I've heard CN got a message from a very unhappy NB simply saying enough is enough, sack somebody and replace him. Why CN had to wait and be told what to do who knows; personally I think he's too weak to make tough decisions (well his NEP article said he hated sacking people).
For me even if we signed 2 or 3 marquee players we won't win the league unless Cardiff has an epic bout of bad form like we have had and, with their depth and quality spares I just can't see it happening.
As a side note someone mentioned to me a week or so ago that there was something in the match magazine about some important off ice news/changes happening in the off season, if true dare we speculate GM to retire?? CN to move on?? Can only hope.

So the Department of Player Safety will now also automatically review all 5 minute Major penalties and any body contact penalties which result in an injury, they are going to be busy. 1. Why does a fight need to be reviewed? Both drop their gloves they are both willing participants, if one is forced to fight or protect himself that's what the instigator rule/penalties are for!
2a. How can the body contact penalty/injury be effectively policed? What if a player gets dubious cross check towards the end of the game but after some "magic water treatment" continues and finishes the game. A day later he's properly assessed and has a more serious strain or concussion, given the Monday PM deadline for clubs to request a review, what action is taken if they are late in submitting it? 2b. So a player accidentally, clumsily or intentionally (often only the offending player really knows which) cross checks with an elbow to the head, ref only calls 2 minutes but the player can't continue, ends up being out for several weeks with concussion. At what point is the offending player assessed on any subsequent penalty?
I fully support player safety but have the EIHL fully thought this process through...?

Game was over after the 1st period, from there it was just a case of managing any Belfast resurgence, ultimately Panthers did what was needed to secure the points. Yes they relaxed in the 2nd & 3rd periods but given they were in Finland mid week and had a fairly long game against the Steelers who can blame them.

Complete apathy shown by the team tonight, I didn't see warm up but by the way the players came out onto the ice at the start you could see they would rather be elsewhere.

No cliches like biggest game, season defining blah blah... Regulation win for us is the only result.
And Giants need to grow a pair and take two points back off the squeelers.

We know for sure that Wiikman has a groin injury do we? When I spoke to him in Scotland he was holding an ice pack to the inside of his groin (left side), either he was treating an injury or restraining his excitement of seeing me. My money is on the injury

#AskTCW Do you think that comparing Thommo's attitude and demeanor to that of a spoilt ten year old is unfair to ten year olds? I second this question I also agree, without question he is "supposed" to be one of the most experienced coaches in British Ice Hockey, yet behaves like a spoilt brat. He doesn't set a great example.

It really saddens me to see some posters on here wanting Stevie Lee to sustain an injury, just because his passing isn't always tape to tape and has coughed up the puck in our zone from time to time. Arguably he's one of best Brit D men in the league, he still gives it 100% game in game out. Show me one Panther on the rosta who doesn't cough up the puck from time to time?
I'd like to see you go into the corners and fight for the puck or go to the boards at full speed for a 50/50 puck.
Call yourselves Panther fans... Not in my eyes!!!

TBF though Yates, in Breahead Hardy was benched for the 3rd period and had fewer shifts against Fife.
When you look at the guys in warm up everyone is pretty pally and cracking jokes, Hardy was wasn't one of them.
I'm hoping this will see the D get back to doing their stuff as they showed us at the start of the season.
