Was asked a question by someone yesterday as regards the teams win rate in the league. My answer was... Elite era 03-04 60.71% 04-05 50% 05-06 54.76 06-07 53.70 07-08 57.41 08-09 68.52 09-10 60.71 10-11 61.11 11-12 70.37 12-13 78.85 13-14 48.08 14-15 55.77 15-16 57.69 16-17 50.00 17-18 58.93 18-19 48.33 19-20 58.70 (incomplete league) 20-21 50.00 ( series league) 21-22 46.30 It’s just over 40% this season , so the worst season thus far. Objectively (above) and subjectively, this has been the worst season it's been my pleasure to watch. Almost no positives at all to come out of it, I'm afraid.

Wonder what Brodeur thought when he walked into the Manchester rink ? 🙈 I expect he's seen worse than that in his time.

No.1 recording artistes, if you don't mind. Not saying on here what people think of this pair in case I get a warning! We're all with you. Whilst you can't knock what they've raised for charity, they're a pair of gurning buffoons. Fair play to them, if that's what gets you through the night.

How does this usually work, and what’s the timing? Are all players on a single season contract? Are they all free to talk to other clubs now? Do they actually publicly announce any retained / released lists? I note that season tickets cease to be on sale at the end of June. You’d have thought a fair amount of business would aim to be done prior to that in order to give the fans some hope / excitement for the season ahead. You’d expect a decision on the coach early doors in order that they can be involved in the re-signing / recruitment process. Incoming players would need to buy into what the coach’s plans are. Sesnsible answer, following on from messier... Most players are on 1 season deals, unless announced otherwise. Thus, they are "free agents" at the end of the season. There will be some announcements I'm sure. These tend to be Brits or long established players. Maybe the odd new face. As you say, some sales ill be influenced in this way. Coach is probably the biggest early signing, also as you surmise. Who knows who that will be?

Stats Tetlow Finnish 2nd Tier P44 G2+A6 +/- +18 Hazeldine EIHL P35 G0+A5 +/- -9 Point of order, 18 is his PIMs, but he's still a very respectable +11, top quartile in his team. I would say he's done a decent job in Finland, stayed there all season, been solid, and undoubtedly progressed as a player. Even the Finnish second division must be at least as good as the EIHL. Wonder what he'll do next season? Please note - sensible answers only.

Still if that’s the quality of player you’re happy with in Notts. 🤔 I'd have been happy with Martin Latal. Some wouldn't.

Come on Iggy. 15, 2+5, -20 in Dundee 36, 5+6, -9 playing mostly on D in Nottingham. As a versatile 3rd liner/D cover, you could get a lot worse. I'm not pro Fab, nor totally anti, by the way. He could play a role. A feature of very good Devils teams over the last few years is the unheralded, role-playing, low point getting, but crucial to the team, 3rd line grinder. Brandt, Livingston, Brine etc. That’s some Devils comparison you’ve picked there Bob. Brine played 300 AHL games and Livingston 200 AHL games, plus both played in other good leagues….Ricci meanwhile never played any higher than ECHL and his stats in that were crap. Still if that’s the quality of player you’re happy with in Notts. 🤔 If they were AHL quality players at the time they were in Cardiff, they'd still have been in the AHL. Long held rule of thumb of mine - You're only as good as the last league you played in, and you're in the EIHL for a reason. These players play a role, and are valuable in a team set-up. We can play "pick stats to "prove" your point" all night. e.g. Name me the current EIHL player who has never played a single game in the AHL who's scored 248 points in 265 EIHL games. (Which is a better rate than the vast majority of EIHL forwards this season.) For the record, I am never perplexed. Frustrated, yes, but never perplexed.

Ricci would be a very lazy signing and would once again be going towards money in Blacks pocket rather than any kind of ambition at all Yep 7+11 from 51 games and a plus/minus rating of minus 29 which is close to the worst in the whole league. What a quality re signing that would be ! 🙈🙈 Come on Iggy. 15, 2+5, -20 in Dundee 36, 5+6, -9 playing mostly on D in Nottingham. As a versatile 3rd liner/D cover, you could get a lot worse. Here's another belter. The 4 lowest instances this season of shots recorded by a team in a game have all been away teams in games at the Sheffield Arena. 11 x1 (last night), 12 x2 (10 Sept vs Devils and 20 Nov vs Giants) and 14 x1 (2 Dec vs Devils). Steelers have lost 3 of those games.

The only import I may have back is Jones. Izachy, Levin are potential but 3rd liners max. All the rest can do one Yes providing Jones was realistically the No2. Ullmark as #1. 😂 I’m with Yeti. In front of a poor defence, Jones has put up some great numbers so far. Happy to keep him.

How about this for a telling graph? It shows the rolling 10 game powerplay percentage for the season, for what most thought last Sepetember would be the 4 "contenders". No wonder Giants are about to win the league. Attachments:

Indeed it is, and you get to watch Martin Latal every week too. Seriously though, it is exceptional value, £14 a game if you make them all. That's maybe how you get a half full area to start with? How many do Steelers sell, does anyone know? Blimey is Martin Latal still there,he was supposed to be gone by Christmas....of last season ! 🤣 No idea how many ST’s Steelers sell, but yes £13.87 a game in Sheffield is very good value....versus £18.27 for gold,£16.15 for silver and £15.00 for bronze at Panthers. Somebody needs to ask Pacha why the big cost difference and why Panthers always still have a league game missing when he does his “ask the CEO” thing. One set of fans are being taken for a ride here ! The "season ticket that is for one game less than the number of games in the league season" is just bizarre.

You could still have 4 home league games in a group of 5. Potentially 4 at home and 4 away in the group The format needs to be changed, fans were moaning about it last season, never mind this current season Yes I know, what I mean is even with two groups of five it would still be a long drawn out format. That Steelers ST at £430 sitting anywhere is a heck of a good deal for 31 games when compared to Panthers prices for only 26 games. Indeed it is, and you get to watch Martin Latal every week too. Seriously though, it is exceptional value, £14 a game if you make them all. That's maybe how you get a half full area to start with? How many do Steelers sell, does anyone know?

I don't often disagree but Sorensen and Brady have been major disappointments. Brady just doesn't appear some games and Sorensen thinks his reputation is enough to get by on. Ferrara is showing the same lack of form that he does when playing for GB (compare him o Lake who's only half as good but 100% committed when playing for both GB and Giants). Hammond bounces around from team to team, occasionally showing a good run of form but we've not seen the best of him. Players like Ricci are ten a penny back home over the pond and we could do much better, compare him to Mosey and who would you sooner have. I don't like wholesale change season on season as we've let go players who we should have kept, but we don't know what players demands and personal situations are, and I can't see the point of keeping players who have (or haven't) contributed to a poorly performing team. Completely get your point. Sorensen and Brady probably under performed given the big points output which I assume was expected by most. Sorensen to me has more to his game, he has potential to be an effective rink rat to get under the skin of the oppo, to be honest wish he did it more. Where I sit I hear everything from the away bench and he really winds them up when he’s on it. Re Brady I probably agree. Just thinking if we are going to keep imports I was brainstorming who probably would be better/ more effective in a better team. I get frustrated by the amount of roster turnover at Panthers compared to elsewhere, but I guess you need a good starting block to be able to then retain players worthy of it. The thing for me is how we don’t seem to be engaged with what the crowd want at Nottingham. It only takes one hit landed, or hustle and bustle type of forechecking to notice that the crowd seem to like it and it engages them. Cam was the prime example (we were extremely spoiled). It frustrates me how passive we are, compared to opposition coming in and being really physical and tough to play against. If I’m looking at it from a roster creation point of view, and looking at playing in the NIC for half of my games, I’m bringing in some players keen to be physical and initiate contact, because if they do this effectively in the first five minutes the crowd remain engaged (as shown by Gagnon fighting the other week). I know fighting every game just doesn’t happen and that’s fine, but hitting and forechecking does happen. Really intrigued by what’s the come this summer, nagging feeling we will end up disappointed yet again, but there’s just a glimmer of hope in my mind that we may turn a corner and address the on ice issues effectively. Ramble over! Excellent post.

That's been the most frustrating thing for me all season. Horribly dangerous, very low percentage, plays in our own zone. Awful to watch. And a new way to get me hiding behind my hand in our own zone, to go along with our seeming constant inability to clear the zone with any degree of regularity. At least the players aren't skating into each other now quite as much as at the start of the season. And guess what next year won't be any better 😂 You don't know Saturday's lottery numbers as well, do you?

Up and down the roster it’s just garbage or players flattering to deceive. At what point as a d-core do you start thinking “maybe blind passes out of the corners to the slot are actually a bad idea” because they were still doing it after the equaliser! So no Lingren in the line up then... Imagine releasing someone and you ain't able to replace them 🤦 Maybe he’s injured. Or maybe sometimes that’s what coaches have to do for the good of the team.

Sounds like the BBL was closer to collapse than that. Might still be. And the parity of the league is way more spread than the EIHL. (London have won 24 of 26, Surrey 3 of 27) And selling something that almost every kid can have a go at in a park or playground is different to ice hockey... It's not as rosy as you make out, just because Lord so and so is Chairman. We could argue all day, and I suspect you'll want the last word, so I'll leave that door open for you. Lord or no lord.. sir or no sir at least he has no affiliation to any team.. that doesn't make them tin pot like other leagues and I bet it doesn't have owners owning multiple teams either .. I will have the last word if you are trying to defend the EIHL .. ever heard of you can't defend the indefensible? "London Lions is owned by 777 Partners. 777 Partners also purchased 45% of the British Basketball League (BBL) for £7m in December 2021. The balance of BBL is owned by the 10 clubs that compete in the BBL, including London, therefore, effectively 777 controls the BBL." So in the BBL, the current most successful team is owned directly by the same people who own 45% of the entire league, therefore meaning that 777 have effective control of the league? (45% direct + 10% of 55% = > 50%?). Can you defend that in the same terms? Owners may not own multiple teams (although I'm not 100% sure of this) but the business that owns nearly half the whole league also happens to own its most successful team? Still, if that were the EIHL that would be fine, right?

That'll be the British Basketball League Limited, with all those fancy Dan directors, that is £300k in negative equity, having lost a million pounds in the last year, and has had to be propped up by a significant TP investor? Not exactly a roaring success so far, I'd say. They've spent a heck of a lot of someone else's money. Still, if that's the model you're happy with, fill your boots. So they have outside investors? So what .. it's a league which isn't always 2 days from collapse unlike the EIHL.. teams in that leagues ain't dropping in and out every year.. oh and sky TV entertain them too....a EIHL fan is in no position to criticise them.. Sounds like the BBL was closer to collapse than that. Might still be. And the parity of the league is way more spread than the EIHL. That's just my point. You can't necessarily hope for immediate change. I said that too, so will a lot of people, but it won't be next year, I'd say; it's too late already, as you've noted. If it's going to be done, it'll be the year after.

No, I mean they are the league, in terms of management. Thus "the league" is unlikely to forcibly excise bits of itself. "The league" simply isn't big enough to have an independent tier of management. The 10 clubs sit round the table and make decisions. That's just how it is. Utter nonsense. The league is quite capable of having a management team who have no affiliation of any team .. is the chairman of the BBL a owner of a team in the league? www.bbl.org.uk/bbl-board/Our league isn't big enough . Compare attendances across both sports! That'll be the British Basketball League Limited, with all those fancy Dan directors, that is £300k in negative equity, having lost a million pounds in the last year, and has had to be propped up by a significant TP investor? An hour. Was 59 minutes of that spent deciding who your favourite team were? Some of your “tell us why” answers were obviously a lot shorter than mine Bob ! 🤣🤣 Well, now you've told the league and PWC. That will go into their database and all the responses will be collated together, and actioned accordingly. Big surveys beget big answers though. (I know form personal experience) Be prepared for them not to action everything you've said, to the letter, immediately. That also doesn't mean they "haven't listened", as I'm sure we'll get if you don't see immediate obvious changes.
