I thought Malmquist looked like one of the better players last night, after a relatively quiet start. I like him and would be happy to see him stay.
Bulmer is a tough one, he's a quality player and I feel once he gets going he'll be very effective. I'd give him more time.
If I had to choose one player to put on notice it would be Jakobs. I'd like us to bring in at least two more players, instil more fear into the underperforming players that they will be replaced if they don't get their act together.
If Perlini wasn't a Brit he'd be up there with Jakobs as first ones out the door. He's been complete gash so far this season.

Following a team vote Sam Herr has been given the Captaincy for the rest of the season. He is joined by Lepine, Connelly and Betteridge who will all receive the Alternates' A on their chests. www.panthers.co.uk/home/191004-captain

It does make you think why he bothered coming in the first place. Its not he's said he hasn't settled or isn't playing well or missing home/family. He's quitting the sport all together. I don't understand the logic of looking to move to europe over the summer, training to get ready just to give it all up after a month. Retiring is not something you do on a whim We don't know why he's retired. It could be something which is related to his injury, could be something family related.. or it could be down to mental health, or a loss of love for the game. Loiseau has spent a couple seasons around Europe, in places where neither English or French are a first language so I'd be surprised if it was a simple case of not being able to adapt to culture here. He's only 25 too. I hope it's nothing serious and whilst I don't think he was particularly a standout player whilst he was here, it's never nice to see a player who hasn't even hit their prime yet, retire. We haven't looked good up the middle since the beginning and now the pressure is on to bring in a solid centreman.

Not even gotten to the end of September and people are calling for heads already..
Nobody is denying that we are underperforming but Jesus Christ. We literally all, throughout the off-season, stated how our budget was clearly much less than the other top 3, and that we should expect to finish somewhere in the middle of the pack with part of the aim of the season being the Continental Cup. We are in season one of having a new system in place, director of hockey and a coach who is pretty different to any we've had so far, and is entering his first full season as coach. We aren't in a rebuild, we are trying something new and that deserves a chance after many years of discontent with the way the club has been run. There are over 50 games left this season.
Nobody wants to see us underperforming and the players will be even more frustrated than we are. Give it time. We are not entitled to win every game.

Rough weekend.
We couldn't buy a goal. Players taking ridiculous angle shots or shooting straight at a defending players' feet. We look great in terms of puck possession and controlling the play in the offensive zone but when it comes to getting shots off, they're just poor decisions as to when players decide to shoot and it kills all of the hard work they've put in. Some of our forwards have a lot of potential but it just isn't happening. I like the way Golovkovs plays, he's quick and you can see he wants it badly, but it's just that scrappy that his shots, and others' shots are doing nothing to threaten the goaltender. I thought Malmquist was better tonight, created a couple of goal scoring chances which should've been buried. Bulmer holds the puck better than anyway, skates well too but he couldn't buy a goal at the moment, couple of clean cut chances he's had this weekend which haven't hit the back of the net. Quist seems to have slowed down quite a bit, looks good on the puck but again, just cannot seem to get through any traffic to get clean shots off. It's frustrating because the effort is mostly there, but they just cannot seem to break through opposition defences well enough to get good chances.
At the back, it's unpredictable. The defence seem a bit hit and miss, and whichever they decide they want to be, Carr will be the opposite. Carr made some solid saves over the weekend and had some strong periods of time between the posts but then he'll suddenly become very shaky. Carr got us off to a very poor start today, second time I've counted this season he has been called for DoG for holding the puck instead of playing it. It was a clear penalty. Though I didn't see any kind of hand gesture from any official telling him to play the puck. Then he throws the net off when he concedes and shouts at the ref, getting an abuse penalty. Both penalties were avoidable and cost us. The officials were not great, that's for sure but on several occasions we walked into penalties.
I thought Matherson looked quite fatigued today, he certainly gave his all but there were an unusual amount of mistakes today. I though Lepine looked pretty good, surprisingly. Connelly wasn't as good as yesterday and DeSantis seems slightly invisible (good or bad?).
There's lots of work to be done. The effort is there, the end product is not. It is as simple as that. I'm looking forward to next weekend but also worried. Steelers have been poor lately too so both sides go into this one wanting to break their curse. I just worry because offensively Steelers are better and whilst their defence and goaltending has been substandard, it means nothing if we can't hit a barn door.
Too early for personnel changes but we need to get our act together.

Whistle for me, he's been pretty good so far this season and we've seen the two rotate each weekend so no reason why they shouldn't do it again this weekend.

Poor performance tonight.
Couldn't get anything going offensively and Fife played very well and were very effective against us. Kept us to the outside, 1st to the loose pucks and gave more effort. Took their chances relatively well, we seemed to collapse completely once they entered our zone and we kept allowing them to screen Whistle, and we screened him ourselves too.
I don't know the SOG's but Whistle faced a lot of shots tonight and I feel he did well. Could've easily been like the Steelers away game where everything was going in, if it wasn't for him.
I thought the officials were horrendous again, complete embarrassment to the league. It's not why we lost though. We were outplayed. We can't and won't win them all, and we should all know fife are a good team and will definitely cause the "Top 4" issues. Will they break into the Top 4? I don't know, but I'd say they have a better chance than the likes of Guildford, Glasgow and Coventry.

Unfortunately for DOPS they make it very easy most of the time to get accused lol. I'm looking forward to when Bulmer or Lepine drives a players head into the ice and just gets kicked out at worse 😁 Bulmer will have to tread very lightly for the rest of the season, otherwise he'll end up with Rissling-esq suspensions.

Can't believe it took to the second post of the annual DOPS thread to accuse the whole thing of being a crooked sham. You've let the side down Pies, we like to lead off with that particular slander thank you very much. Was Deutsch hurt in this incident with Connelly? Facial bruising I think but nothing more.

Right then, if DOPS aren't going to deal with Connelly then it must be dealt with on the ice. Lepine needs to put his big boy skates on and send the message, Connelly needs to be eating his teeth by the end of the 1st Period.
Bulmer's suspension is fine. Going to be a long season for him, he plays quite dirty and his card is more than marked.
Davies' suspension, again, fine with that. Didn't particularly see the need for the apology though, how embarrassing.

I don't think any official is 'bias' either. I just think they're inept for the majority of the time.
If it isn't missing blatant calls, it's calling extremely soft or questionable calls. And if it isn't that it's a case of them feeling the noise fans make in response to their player falling over or getting hit, means they must make a call.
Doucet said in his interview with Chris Ellis on BBC Nottingham Sport that officials are clamping down on stick infractions and other calls, things like slashing specifically. However, there must've been at least 10 incidents over the weekend where a call could've easily been made, yet wasn't. But they you get something happen which is barely noticeable, yet it gets called. I'm sure Golovkovs got tripped yesterday in front of a referee, and tripped as in the stick blade was well under his feet.
I'm struggling to get my head around why Deutsch got 5+Game for Charging too. You can see on the highlights he cuts in relatively late, but much earlier than I originally thought. Then tries to jump around/over the goalie but there is a glancing blow. It wasn't a case of he ran him into next week and didn't attempt to stop or move out the way. His feet weren't even moving either. I see no reason why he deserved a 5+Game for Charging. I would've happily accepted a minor for goaltender interference however.
I think the officials get a very hard time from the fans, sometimes it isn't justified, but sometimes it is. I do feel sorry for them and it was great to see the publicising of their training weekend at the NIC over the summer... but again, minimal training of part-time referees is useless. I wish we would just pay for full-time officials and give them the training they need.

I think we well and truly got lured into a false sense of security after the 1st Period. I was talking to friends in the first interval saying even being 3-0 up I felt extremely nervous because it just wasn't Panthers style to go to Sheffield and be leading by 3 after 20 minutes. Additionally, Steelers had a lot of chances in the first but couldn't hit a barn door. We had a few chances and took them well.
Steelers did what I expected and I'm sure most others expected and re-grouped, came back strong and kept bombarding the net. As soon as they scored their 1st in the 2nd Period it was obvious what would happen.
We saw some positive stuff from our guys I feel, Herr looked excellent, Kelsall and Hazeldine looked good. Quist looked decent, Malmquist looks pretty quick and agile but the one issue I have is how soft and weak we are. It wasn't until at least goal 7 when Lepine started playing with intensity, we barely hit and we allow teams to boss us around. I also don't believe we're half as quick as we were expecting either.
It's early days anyway and Challenge Cup so hopefully the issues are rectified early on. If we have Lepine and Bulmer playing hard, I think we'd last a lot longer in games and just be better in general, it makes no sense to not utilise big, aggressive players.
I quite dislike this Steelers roster already too. Their Russian guy "Lemmy", bit of a rat. Davies, bit of a rat. Deluca and Vallerand, complete grease balls. Connelly, complete rat.

Anyone know what’s happening with Boxill? I see he’s been training with PK Subban but doesn’t have a club at the moment. Did Giants pass on resigning or did Boxy choose a different path? Most teams have signed their roster for the season so I feel he's either retiring or dropping down to the NIHL. He isn't good enough for an EIHL team.

Feel like playing Blaze in the Skydome this season is going to be hellish. Biggest and toughest roster they've had for a while and they have some decent players too, they aren't going to be walkovers at all and I can see Broll making Coventry and even more horrendous place to go.

Disagree on Fick, he shielded the puck very good hardly turned it over all night. Loiseau worked hard too Agreed. To say he's a pretty small guy he's ruthless in the board battles. Even when Broll had the puck behind the net and by the boards, Fick just went at him constantly, gave zero room to breathe and made It very uncomfortable for him. I like that.

Maybe this years (increased) facilities fee will be paying to upgrade the sound system. I agree, the video they shown preseason looked great but the sound was awful. Though they did mention Facebook they were looking at fixing it, so maybe that part was down to the arena team not the actual sound system. But yes, still think we need to upgrade that too. Several speakers were not set up correctly or working correctly during that video, the engineers fixed it before Saturday. It's a difficult one for the arena, the sound system isn't that bad. It's just genuinely difficult to hear North American's speaking on a video, whilst there is music in the background, people clapping and making noise and players skating around etc.

Is that the one to the left of the petrol station, Ben? Is yes I never park there, looks far too dodgy and as you say is never patrolled. Do you mean the one near the Royal Mail place? If so, then no but I agree, that one always looks dodgy! The official Arena Car Park is here, it's essentially wasteland renamed a carpark until redevelopment begins.

There's a few reports from fans on social media regarding the Arena Car Park (behind BioCity) stating that vehicles were vandalised, broken into and at least one stolen following the game on Saturday.
So if anyone on here uses the car park, be careful and ensure no valuables are on show. If you have been a victim of vandalism or the car being broken into, report it to the police and the arena.
The information for the car park states it is patrolled by security but nobody has seen this happen.

I don't think they took their foot off the gas really. Numerous players displayed their frustrations at times, Devils threw some decent hits and played with an edge you wouldn't expect in a measly friendly. They played aggressive and we never really retaliated which in part frustrated me, but we kept playing our game and as a result we won, so happy days.
I was happy with the performance. I was impressed with the Kelsall-Betteridge-Hazeldine line. They forced many turnovers in brilliant positions, got a few good chances and never gave anything less than 100%. Great to see. Matheson, despite being relatively slow showed some class on the blueline, I think he's going to be a great guy to have as player assistant.
I don't have any real complaints, I would like us to be more physical though, Jakobs and a couple of others kept getting hit hard and they clearly didn't like it. I can see it wearing us down if we don't push back a bit. But besides that, impressed and hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here.

I know this info may come later but 1) Did Tetlow, Connelly, Lepine, Hazledine and Jakobs play? 2) Did Carr play all 60 minutes in goal? 3) Was there just the 2 mins penalty to Herr all game? 4) Any idea of shots on goal? 1 - Yes. 2 - Yes. 3 - Devils took a bench minor (too many men) and Duggan took a slashing call, Deutch scored on that PP.

I'm expecting Lepine to be Captain.
Perlini, Herr and Connelly as the Alternates.
Just my opinion though.

Looking forward to the games. Summer went very quick so I haven't particularly missed it, but it'll be nice to be back and hopefully we can see a couple decent performances. Cardiff are a very good team and have a week of training camp under their belts already so I won't be surprised if we find ourselves on the back foot but hey, I'd rather us make our mistakes now than in 2 months time.

Can we please give over with the Dan Green bashing. It's so tiring and boring to read. Especially when pretty much nobody on this forum is going to have the slightest idea about what he does day in day out. I don't know either, and frankly I don't particularly care. But there is no need to constantly bash him.

Announced at the jersey reveal.. alongside a green alternate jersey.
I'm sure the PR will be on the website soon.
GM also stated that players who are not currently here in Nottingham are either on their way as we speak or will be heading to Nottingham tomorrow. They've had one issue with a visa but no additional information.
