Contrary to what the local rag is reporting, the NIC/Motorpoint Arena won't be used as a temporary morgue. It was examined for its suitability by the military and planners a few weeks ago, and is always on a list of places which can be used should something happen where the county's funeral directors and morgues cannot cope. The City Hospital has managed to increase its storage capacity by 600 and the site up in the Mansfield area will have a capacity for around 3,000. Projected deaths in Nottinghamshire as of late last week was around 500. The next projection is expected tomorrow. As it stands, the county is not struggling for capacity but over the next two weeks whilst deaths continue to increase, sites like the one up near Mansfield may come into use. Mmmmm I was tempted.....but I’d better not. What?

Steelers fans believe they have signed Jeremy Brodeur, from HK Budapest and it won't be announced until later in the week.
That's just a rumour though, but I suppose we could be in a similar position. Hopefully anyway.

Not a chance it's anything crime related. We wouldn't publicly state he is being considered as someone Doucet wants back next season if he had committed a crime and fled the country.
I saw one person suggest he probably went home during the International Break and for some reason his Visa was voided. But these are just people's beliefs of what may have happened. I don't have a clue how working Visas work.
It's extremely disappointing anyway, honest mistake or not.

Oh dear, after a 1-4 loss and another walk/tram/drive home. Upset that the team did not play as well tonight. It would have been nice to have at least make the next and final qualifier round. My 2nd game at the Arena and second loss. So we have to beat Canada to improve my attendance score. Yikes. Had a moan to the supervising staff asking why the Hungarians can sing and dance on the stairs yet repeatedly home fans would be told to sit. Got the expected excuses. It's safer to allow them to stand on the steps and do their business than to send a steward up every 30 seconds asking them to move. No point in antagonising drunk fans when they aren't actually causing any real fuss. Let them get on with it and only step in if they cause trouble for other fans. Everything was fine. I'd rather see the opposition fans like that than sat in their seats twiddling their thumbs.

Carr - Maybe Whistle - Yes Gospel - Yes
Fick - Yes Desantis - No Matheson - Yes* Lepine - Maybe Connelly - Yes Tetlow - Yes Deutsch - Maybe
Lacho - No Perlini - Yes Hazeldine - Yes Kelsall - Yes Malmquist - Maybe Golovkovs - No Hansen - Yes* Horvat - Yes Herr - Yes* Tousignant - N/A Talbot - Yes* Betteridge - Yes Rheault - No Bulmer - Yes
For the Maybe's, if we can upgrade then I won't be fussed if they leave.
Desantis and Golovkovs, I don't think either are bad, but I feel we can definitely upgrade. I wouldn't want to swap Golovkovs for someone who can't skate well, would want someone with similar speed.
Rheault and Lachowicz, not much needs to be said to justify the No.
Players with * next to their names are key re-signings for me. I excluded British players from that as Brits are essentially key re-signings anyway.

Joe Hazeldine has been loaned to Peterborough Phantoms for the rest of the season.
Jordan Kelsall is to enter a two-way agreement between Panthers and Leeds Chiefs.
I'm glad that they're both going to get some playing time but it essentially leaves us two players short on the bench each night. Hopefully we're smart with how we use Kelsall. I'd like to see Kelsall with us on Sunday against Fife.

We are severely short on goals and that is why we are struggling.
I did some very quick research last night and found the following. Sheffield have 8 guys with over 10 goals in the league. Cardiff & Blaze have 6, Belfast & Fife with 5, Storm, Clan & Stars with 4 each. Dundee and us have 3 players with more than 10 goals.
Herr - 23 Perlini - 13 Talbot - 11
Talbot has only played 22 games as well.
Hansen is approaching double digits, with 9 so far and Matheson and Bulmer sit on 8. Then it's Betteridge with 7.
We need so much more from our forwards. It was great to see Horvat get two goals last night and I really hope that leads to him getting a bit more ice time and putting more shots on net, he has 3 in 16 so far (Not sure if that includes last night?). I do like his style of play though and I wish we had started the season with a guy like him.
But anyway, when Bulmer is back from injury we need to see more from him. He is currently 37 points behind his end of season total for last season and has 98 less penalty minutes. I know there's a large proportion of the fan base who love him, and I quite like him but when we see what he did with Fife, and sign him as a go-to-guy, it's disappointing.
Golovkovs needs to start producing a bit more too. I remember when Wallace was interviewed whilst he was out injured and he was giving him praise but kept saying how he needed to shoot the puck more. I think he has started to shoot a little bit more but we really need him to start taking his chances. 4 goals in 26 so far.
I think we'll be in with a shot at the title for much longer if we can just start scoring some goals. I don't think we're bad defensively and bar this game last night, Carr has been pretty solid. Sort out the scoring and I think we'll be fine. If we don't, we won't. It isn't long until the transfer window closes and I'll be very disappointed if we don't bring in someone.

All this Carr has played too much doesn't cut it for me. Duba has played every game and is 10 years older! Carr made a bad error on their 4th but that wasn't down to fatigue It helps when the forwards in front of him can score for fun and keep the puck away from their own end!

Disappointed by not surprised.
We've played lots of games and picked up some injuries, which we haven't brought in injury cover for. I know we're carrying an extra import already but any team who intends to contend for the title must act quickly when they pick up a few injuries and leave guys playing excessive minutes, wearing others down too.
Carr has been over-played as far as I'm concerned but I'm not surprised, he's been hot and consistently for the last couple of months. I wish we'd have played Whistle tonight, I don't think it'll be appropriate to play Whistle tomorrow or Wednesday, with both being absolute must wins.
Guildford are a good team, they deserved the win.
If someone told me at the end of October that we'd still be in the title race come February, I'd have asked what they'd just smoked considering how poor we started. Fingers crossed we go into Cardiff tomorrow like we own the place and get ourselves back on track.

Not strictly Rob Farmer, but only just noticed that Chris Stewart has been sent to the AHL to play for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. It was initially due to salary cap difficulties with Carter Hart getting injured, and Flyers having to recall Alex Lyon from Lehigh. The strange bit was that the day he was put on waivers was also the day he returned to the Flyers lineup having sat the previous few games out. I imagine Stewart will be back up once Hart is back, but I'm sure Flyers see having Stewart in Lehigh for a short while will be beneficial to the rookies in the system.

I think this game will see our tiredness and short-bodiedness shine through unfortunately. We've played a hell of a lot of hockey recently and whilst we're managing to take two points more frequently than not, we tend to do it the hard way and with Bulmer, Deutsch and DeSantis all out I think this game will be that step too far. I pray I'm wrong however.
I hope we bring in some injury cover soon and even if we get all players back, I still hope we bring in some kind of extra import defenceman.

How many other players have Cardiff held onto who could play at higher levels? I can think of several. Fournier could surely play at a higher level than in Cardiff. As for Herr,i bet Simmsey has already tipped off Thommo to get the DEL looking at Herr, they’ll being doing all they can to try make sure he’s not at Panthers next year. Thompson got fired a few weeks ago.

IIRC Herr was wanted back by the Ontario Reign but opted to come here so he could prove himself as an offensive forward as opposed to a 4th line PK player.
He's done exactly that. So surely you'd think that if he already had the AHL interest before coming here, the 60 odd points he's totalled to date.. January 6th, with a few months of games remaining, that's surely going to be peaking the interest even more.
I'd love to keep him long term but I feel we'll only be blessed with his presence for this season.
As for Horvat, I think he has good potential to be a decent powerforward but he will never be half as effective as he could be whilst playing with Lacho and Ollie, no disrespect to Ollie either. Give him Bulmer and Talbot and I think he'd do brilliantly.

Played in dribs and drabs for me, wasn't a 60 minute performance. Where was the noisy block? Weren't they allowed to bring drums etc to this game. Steelers where singing "your supposed to be at home" and to be honest I agreed with them. Crowd was flat a lot of the time. I know the performance probably played its part but maybe noisy 19 would have helped?! The club didn't extend their trial until way after the game had gotten either very close to selling out or was sold out so they were all back in their original seats for the game. I imagine they'll be back in full voice on Saturday. Shame the club didn't extend it sooner, not like it was a difficult decision. The atmosphere on Boxing Day was pants, and yesterday was good at times then quiet at others. If we had the drummers for both games, two sell outs, the atmosphere could have been electric.

Want to see a reaction today.
I think we played okay yesterday but the end product was extremely sub-standard. I get that these things happen sometimes, but yesterdays 'finishing' was unacceptable. We had plenty of chances but failed to take them. Duba couldn't catch a cold and whilst we seemed quite good at pouncing for rebounds, Steelers seem to collapse around Duba very well and stop us from jamming the loose pucks home. We need to shoot more and I don't mean from poor angles, but the amount of time we spend passing it around at the blue line, whilst I really enjoy the puck possession and way we keep hold of the puck, we have to let off a few more shots.
I hope we play hard and throw the body more as well. The likes of Deluca, Vallerand, Brocklehurst, Connolly, Lemtyugov, Davies all playing with a dirty edge to their game. I want to see guys like Lepine and Bulmer throw some big hits and rock guys. Horvat did well throwing all his hits yesterday and it sucks that he has to play with Lachos. If Horvat is going to be with Lacho again today I really hope Wallace asks him to throw more hits and be a pain in the backside for Steelers, get in their faces and agitate them.
I'd be happy to see Kelsall get Lachos minutes today.

What was it? The thing that I don't get is that these games must be making money because this has been going on for a while and something tells me that if owners were losing money constantly, this competition/format would not be happening. The only thing I can think of is if they attracting new fans, but that is risky I could very well be wrong but well under 500 home tickets sold up to the day before United were playing at home and there was a free game on FreeSports. I don't think Storm reduced prices for the game either, and if they did it was minimal discount. However, their attendances have dropped I think and their quality of team has too. I'd like to see them remain in the league but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Finnerty and Co. sold up or the club drops into the NIHL.

I think Wallace would rather have Tetlow play in Peterborough than get only a couple of minutes of ice time in Nottingham. But with DeSantis injured, Tetlow should be the 6th D until he returns to full fitness. I think it's fair, I thought last season and towards the start of this season he was very overplayed. I think by doing it this way it puts some more pressure on him to take his chances when het gets them, and when he doesn't get the chances he can still get game time down in Peterborough.
I'm much happier with Lepine this season and that is mostly down to his increased level of physicality. It's like Wallace has told him to just play his natural game and to utilise his size. He's throwing hits, make it very difficult along the boards for players and does his best to hold guys accountable. It's just unfortunate today's hockey has players run away like cowards rather than answer the bell.
Matheson is just an awesome player, even with his lack of speed. He still manages to cut through the opposition, it's great to see and unlike some offensive defencemen we've had in the past he seems to be pretty smart, gives his all and is responsible. Very happy we signed him. I don't want him to get burned out or injured obviously but whilst he's playing so well I'd hate to see less of him on the ice.

Sounds like it was a family illness back home in Sweden which was the catalyst. Perhaps when he returned home after the Continental Cup he got a clear understanding of what was going on back home and decided to hand his notice in. Wish him the best for the future anyway. Very happy to have us get Horvat, and have him in for Wednesday already too. Hopefully works as hard as Herr, and hopefully add some physicality to our game as well as his leadership qualities. Sounds a lot more that he got the old Santa back pack listening to the Panthers podcast actually All they said on the podcast is that he left, which is true. It was his choice. I don't know facts, just going off what he allegedly said to someone about a family illness and then his departure coming pretty much two weeks after he made a quick visit home after the Continental Cup. He wasn't performing to our expectations or his own and if the family situation is true, then I doubt it was a difficult decision for him. Lovely guy and I hope if there is an illness that it's one which is recovered from, and that he finds success elsewhere. Horvat has made a great impact in his debut so onwards and upwards!

Speculating, but if there is anything this rumour, perhaps Quist was allowed back to Stockholm for a while after the Continental Cup to try and sort out options there. He went back home to see family. Hadn't seen them since early summer due to Doucet/Wallace not allowing any of the players days off due to the poor start to the season. Players were originally given two days off after Continental Cup but Doucet gave them an extra day due to winning the group and getting to the final. He was excited to go home but also excited to return to Nottingham.
