What news do we have on our new scoreboard. Any information on what sort we are having. Something to look forward to!! The bulk of the main stuff arrived from Argos a few weeks ago, they are now waiting the wiring/cable ties which weren't ordered in error. If you look on check-a-trade there's an advert posted for a sparky to do the install.

I care, the match night presentation is a big part of the hockey experience and currently the intro is pants because of old fashioned technology. The team is obviously more important I agree but the scoreboard isn't a waste of money if we want the NIC to be the best venue in the UK

To me it is of little importance, a bloke could put the score up with tins for me. As long as clock & penalty clock works that’ll do. I’d sooner see money spent on the on ice product rather than a scoreboard and pointless intro’s and match night presentation which count for nothing (points wise).

The scoreboard is coming out of the NIC's budget, the on-ice product comes out of the Panthers' budget. Two totally separate organisations, the one has absolutely no relationship with the other. So if people do care about the scoreboard etc, surely there's no problem with that?

Argos, yeah 'fraid so... They do a great Spring discount range on tinpot jumbotrons though, end of season clearance type thing.
Anyway the wiring is now in, cable ties are the wrong size though so they have to go back to B&Q. Give that a couple of days, their returns queue can be a right mare around the weekend.
There's been three respones to the Sparky advert, two of them are 'travellers' though so they've been discounted. The other is a bloke called Ted, he's 72 so partially retired but he's up for giving it a go. There's a slight issue if his ladders will reach the rafters but I'm sure they'll sort that out.

I go to watch a game of ice hockey, I don’t give a flying fig about a scoreboard, match night intro, the same old sounds/songs year in year out. Give me a product worth watching on the ice - that I do have a problem with, cos in recent years it’s been dire. As regards budget, you are obviously correct, but it’s still an extra quid out of my budget every week!

Plexi in places was dire, hopefully we'll have a brand new entire rink's worth of plexi with increased sized glass in he areas where people keep taking pucks to the head.

Good point. Why is the plexi at the fabulous NIC so ‘small’?

However the line I was given was that it was for the benefit of the ice hockey. Its a bit like Trump saying that China (that is CHI NAW) is paying for an increase in tariffs when the Americans are being charged more in the shop. Now where is our Trump in the picture?

Good point. Why is the plexi at the fabulous NIC so ‘small’? I thought it was because the boards wouldn't support anything taller without having strengthening between the panes, which would've impaired the view, but I probably did read that on here so...

Twitter reply from Panthers would tend to suggest something a bit better than the current setup

I spoke to one of the NIC managers towards the end of the season and he said the new scoreboard would be installed before the new season starts. He says it's got lots of features, one he mentioned was the ability to have scrolling news along the bottom, he mentioned the possibility of haveling a live twitter feed scrolling along. He also said it would be able to show in game replays etc. He did temper that by saying that it may take them a while to get the best out of it as the staff will have to learn how to use it, but it did sound like there was potential there.
He also mentioned that all of the plexi was being replaced this summer and would be higher than it currently is, I imagine it'll end up a similar height as the plexi at the Sheffield Arena.

That live Twitter Feed, with our divisive fanbase may not be the greatest idea in the world. Imagine the reaction if we are losing 3-0 and a tweet comes up saying how much tthey are enjoying the game (If it's from a Panthers fan) On the other hand, I believe that it's Manchester that does a quiz on their scoreboard during the period break, something like that would be great

Final update from me on this -
So I spoke to Ted today. Turns out he goes by 'Little Ted'.... he got that moniker as his name is Ted & he's little. Anyway he's sorted the ladders out so he can just reach the roof, that was a relief I can tell you. From ice level he looked like he was on tip toes a little but he had a few cones aroud the ladder base & one of those non slip shower mats underneath so I'm sure he met the arena's H&S standards no problem.
I asked him about the twitter news feed thing. He looked at me a bit non-plussed & asked why his old Nokia 3310 had a # on it when twitter wasn't even invented back then. Safe to say that will be working well from day one then.
As I left the ice area I heard him asking one of the arena staff which colour was the live wire in a plug..... For Panthers he sounds over qualified....

Jord, I understand you are "having banter" so to speak, but the Ted you are making fun of is actually my uncle and a damm fine electrician he is too. His work as can be seen below, is top notch and whilst you make fun of his ladders reaching the rafters at the world famous NIC, I can confirm that he will not only be using a non-slip bath mat under the ladder, but also a member of the NIC staff will be putting his foot on the bottom rung of the ladder whenever my uncle is working at height.
