All this cobblers about “got to get used to the league etc” is just an excuse for projected failure. Gotta get used to the refs! It’s the players that have to do that, not the coach and every team has that problem ! And the new coach has got enough existing Panthers people around him to be advised or warned what may happen in the EIHL.

Did Ben Simon have to get used to the league? Good point Pidge. That ends that little argument. 😉

The first one is not so bad. The second is not acceptable. Absolutely no reason why a new coach couldn’t win trophies in his first season if he signs quality players and his coaching is good enough. All this cobblers about “got to get used to the league etc” is just an excuse for projected failure. Considering you said you were “finished” with Panthers a few days ago, I’m surprised you actually care what happens next season. I am finished with Panthers,I don’t care anymore what they do either, but that doesn’t have to stop me reading the cage. If Panthers ever turn over a new leaf, then I might start caring and watching regularly again some day. Until then I shall just watch the odd game now and again.

Fantastic... the guy was only announced a couple of days ago, and already we're getting the same old drivel about how he should win the league immediately or he's a failure? And, of course, anyone who disagrees gets labelled a "happy clapper" or some such dreck? Bite the reality sandwich, people. Being the club with the largest fanbase (fact) and allegedly largest budget (speculation) does not - and should not - guarantee winning the league. Or anything else for that matter. What a boring false competition that would be. There are, after all, eleven other teams who also want to win... realistically some with more chance than others, but even so - it's a competition, and therefore open to all sorts of eventualities. Anything else would be a travesty. I'm with Bagheera and Shinobi on this one. The 2017-18 Panthers team failed to compete effectively for all of the domestic competitions (the CHL, now that's a different story). If the 2018-19 Panthers make a significant improvement on that - as in, at least remaining in contention right to the end - then that will be an acceptable first year for a new coach. Come on Shaggy. Get off that extremely high horse and tell us who on here said the new coach should win the league next year. I can’t see who did !

Why then, when it was suggested a better attempt at the league would be acceptable, did you say it wouldn't be?

Why then, when it was suggested a better attempt at the league would be acceptable, did you say it wouldn't be? Because a “better attempt at the league” could mean anything. We were miles behind Cardiff and only a couple of points away from finishing 7th. No Panthers fan should be happy constantly finishing 4th or 5th every season. The highest we have finished for FIVE YEARS is 4th and that’s an absolutely appalling record. Finishing 3rd a dozen points behind the winners is not acceptable for me.

Bagheera used the word "significant", I don't think he's looking to turn one regulation loss into an overtime defeat.

In my opinion, we as a fan base should be demanding to finish top of the league. Not just put up a good fight. It's not like we're a small fish in a big pond like 15+ years ago. Black and Moran have got away with 'just doing enough' for too long.

In my 'humble' opinion a trophyless season can never be a success for a team the size of the Panthers. That doesn't mean I think we should sack the coach by any means.
I mean finishing 2nd on goals scored and losing both finals in OT wouldn't be a successful season in my books, but the team have been within reach of their objectives and while I'll miss the euphoria of winning a cup, sport is about fine margins and there's no shame in being close but not quite there.
It's just not realistic to win everything every year, as long as we remain in contention for all things I'd be inclined to keep with the coach , be it Corey, Rich or whoever there may be in the future. If after 3 years we've always been in contention I might be asking questions of why we couldn't get over the line and similarly if we have repeated blowouts in the league like we have under Corey the last view years I expect harsh questions to be asked.

I just like the fact that Simmsey’s been very very quiet regarding Panthers new coach.
That means he’s worried.....so it tells us it’s a good appointment.. Lol 😄

I find it funny that people says things like "He's only been appointed five minutes and already the negative remarks"
And when trying to organise something "Don't bother they don't read anything on the cage from the supporters"
I think social media has a huge potential to enhance the overall experience of being a sports club supporter, not just a trumpet piece to broadcast propaganda.
With that in mind I'd like to think Richard (may I call you Richard!) Has made the effort to get a feel for the club's supporter base by visiting this forum and read a topic with his name on it. I know (if in his position) I wouldn't be able to resist and also know I could take it or leave what ever comments were written.
I think It'd be quite a good larf, inbetween talking long distance to prospective players.
I also think it must be extremely difficult to communicate with supporters, coaches are human afterall and might want to say "I got that covered" especially if they're interested in understanding how the product that they're selling is being received.
Richard, how's about a game of buzzword bingo with us supporters. A kinda interaction without breaking any rules, just so we know you're real.
I've just listened to your interview to see what words you use...
I loved watching Cam Jansen play, he's my type of player. And I expect his 'crash bang wollop' knocking players onto their backsides style would fit your fast and aggressive type of team and as such there'll be a player of similar ilk to quickly become a fan favourite in your team.
Regards
Simon.

Regards Simon. Genuine question, just to judge opinions, if he listened and took the advice of people on here, then came out in an interview when something went wrong and said “I took the fans advice” would you be happy with that? I have to say I’m totally opposite to you. I wouldn’t touch social media if I was a player or coach. Maybe a Facebook account or private Instagram/twitter account but I’d be far away from social media. Have you seen some of the abuse the players and staff get off their own fans? Derlago for one deleted his twitter account halfway through the season. Bussieres blocked a number of people. People will tag players pointlessly. Social media can be great but dreadful at the same time. Got to have strong character to be a celebrity/sports player on social media in this day and age.

And the new coach has got enough existing Panthers people around him to be advised or warned what may happen in the EIHL. Of course the coach has to get used to the refs. Refs in different leagues call more harshly or more leniently. The coach needs to understand that because it can influence what he tells his players to do/how aggressively they should play. Now I would expect him to get used to the refs within several games, especially our league where the number of officials is limited, but the coach still needs to get used to the refs.

I do hope that the new coach is on the phone to Mr Black saying we need to get this Perlini guy signed up asap. How embarrassing would it be if we lost him to elsewhere.

Moran should, and hopefully will, have signed him up as soon as the season ended. He should have offered him more money as an incentive and got him on a multi-year dea. Moran gets a lot of stick but I’m confident even he knows Brett’s value.

We need to prepare to be without Perlini. He had an exceptional tournament.
I believe he will be receiving interest from better leagues and with that he'll want more money. I honestly hope we retain him more than anyone else and I hope we throw the cheque book at him but even with that, I still feel the risk of losing him to a better league has significantly increased.

You’d imagine all the Brits would have been signed up before going off to play on the world stage. To wait would be at best silly...

Perlini is only one player of several who over performed he isn't the only one who's raised eyebrows
