This looks like a terrific appointment, somebody different! Let’s hope GM can keep out of his way and let him have control.

Great appointment on the face of it. Talks a good talk lets hope he can walk the walk. With his resume I don't see why he shouldn't. As said already I am happy we have gone for someone completely new to league and he should hopefully bring new ideas to the table. Welcome Rich!!
P.s is it me or has Corey just been snook out the back door or something. There doesn't seem to have been anything from the club for the most successful Panthers coach ever. Not even a final leaving video interview. The last we heard from Corey was the interview after we lost to Steelers. Surely he deserves more of a send off from the club. It might be me just missing something though. Lol 🤣

Here we go again... same old same old. 1. Decent Coach - Check 2. Best team on paper - Check 3. Great pre-season we are all so hyped - Check 4. Meddling GM (usually around Christmas) - Check 5. Players decide what the hell am i doing here lets drink - Check 6. Next season will be better. The only positive from this appointment is he GM (Director level) knowledge, hopefully this will be enough to combat Moran`s meddling and influence Black in how a club should be run. Time will tell, but i still will not be going until Moran is ousted

Gary deported to his chateau, much to the chagrin of the French - Check 7. Party in Nottingham - Check 8. Iggy posts 2 positive things in the same day - Check 9. Happiness rules the roost on The Cage - Check OK, I've lost it with the last 2 but you never know

Good appointment for you guys, and having a clean slate what would be deemed a successful season for the Panthers this coming season

Good appointment for you guys, and having a clean slate what would be deemed a successful season for the Panthers this coming season For me I would say a successful season would be winning any of the 3 trophies on offer and not being out of league contention come January. An acceptable season would simply be a significant improvement in the league campaign. Along the lines of, still in spitting distance of the leaders mid february and finishing within 10 points.

I’d go with this too in all honesty. The first one is not so bad. The second is not acceptable. Absolutely no reason why a new coach couldn’t win trophies in his first season if he signs quality players and his coaching is good enough. All this cobblers about “got to get used to the league etc” is just an excuse for projected failure.

You used to write off any CC and PO wins when Neilson did it, because there was only one prize that was the real test. But now if the new guy puts up a decent challenge for the league in his first year, but doesn't win something, that's not good enough? Provided we're still looking at the league at the start of March in terms of winning the thing, rather than PO positions, and we're playing stuff that doesn't make me regret getting off the sofa, then I'll be ok with it.

Did Ben Simon have to get used to the league? I can’t remember but how much of that team was signed by Dave Matsos and how many returnees did they have? No reason the coach can’t win it in season 1 however Ben Simons won was a long time ago and under a slightly different circumstance

No reason the coach can’t win it in season 1 however Ben Simons won was a long time ago and under a slightly different circumstance The fact remains he came to a league new to him and knew what it took to succeed. Yes that team was signed by Matsos which makes the achievement even more impressive. Needing to learn the league is a awful excuse !!

Yes that team was signed by Matsos which makes the achievement even more impressive. Needing to learn the league is a awful excuse !! But nobody is using it as an excuse. However nobody should be expecting that he wins the league or it's not good enough. Equally with this mentality i'm also stating that we should have a good chance of winning it. My first post on the topic essentially just states we need to be in the title race for it to be an acceptable season. We could be behind the leaders by 6 points with 3/4 games to go. Lose to them a few times and finish approx 10 points back. In simple terms any coach with any length of service shouldn't have that judged as unacceptable (obviously a lot of ifs, buts and maybes around the manner in which we'd lose those said games). Arguements to the contrary simply suggest win the league or it's not good enough. That's farcical, especially for a 1st season.

Fantastic... the guy was only announced a couple of days ago, and already we're getting the same old drivel about how he should win the league immediately or he's a failure? And, of course, anyone who disagrees gets labelled a "happy clapper" or some such dreck?
Bite the reality sandwich, people. Being the club with the largest fanbase (fact) and allegedly largest budget (speculation) does not - and should not - guarantee winning the league. Or anything else for that matter. What a boring false competition that would be. There are, after all, eleven other teams who also want to win... realistically some with more chance than others, but even so - it's a competition, and therefore open to all sorts of eventualities. Anything else would be a travesty.
I'm with Bagheera and Shinobi on this one. The 2017-18 Panthers team failed to compete effectively for all of the domestic competitions (the CHL, now that's a different story). If the 2018-19 Panthers make a significant improvement on that - as in, at least remaining in contention right to the end - then that will be an acceptable first year for a new coach.

I'm not after us winning the league in his first year...
All I demand is that the players put in an honest shifts every shift.... If they do that then an element of competitiveness will occur.
I don't attend week day matches because I felt players didn't put the effort in..... And that has to change.
What I will say though is that he doesn't need to understand the British league, he needs no slack cutting for that from me...
If he ever uses it, which I doubt, I'll buy his plane ticket myself and he can ...... Off !
I expect him to know one end of a stick from the other, what a puck looks like and where the goals are... And most importantly to have the skills to communicate that to the players.
I also DEMAND 100% unequivocal that he gets a team together for pre season and that ALL the players attend..... Anything less and you can stick your new era where the sun don't shine !
Do those simple things and he'll have my support.
You got that Richard ?
