Looking forward to a roadtrip over to Finland or Sweden, just hope we don't get drawn against Kuopio.. Slap bang in the middle of Finland and surrounded by thousands of lakes, expensive and a pain to get to.

Vaxjo ain't easy to get to either Where would you like Pidge. Davos,Vienna and Munich would be rather nice. I'm secretly hoping they get three really nasty ones in Czech,Belarus and Finland. 😑

I'd love to be drawn with;
Frolunda (Gothenburg) Bern Salzburg
But as you say Iginla, we probably will end up with the most inaccessible places.

So it costs Mr Black a fortune and we therefore might not enter a competition again in which we have absolutely no hope of even getting past the first round. It's a futile distraction and all it does is probably bugger up yet another season ! 🙄

Isn't hockey itself just a futile distraction from the inexorable march of time and our inevitable mortal demise?
(I'm just trying to get the tone of this perma-miserablist schtick, I think I got it.)

I'd love to be drawn with; Frolunda (Gothenburg) Bern Salzburg But as you say Iginla, we probably will end up with the most inaccessible places. Gottenburg is a awesome city but don't expect to play on the Scandinavium arena (17,000) they play their chl games in their practice rink over the other side of the city (there's no pubs anywhere near) that holds around 7,500 but is mainly standing . Iggy , doesn't bother me who we get I won't be going. I'm more hoping this is seen as good pre season preparation for the league campaign. I think it's guaranteed panthers will get a Finnish and/or Swedish team Perhaps a German and Austrian team if you want easy access. Some of the Czech teams can be tricky to get too as can the Swiss teams especially Bern !

The 5 Swedish teams and 5 Finland's teams, 8 of these team will likely be in pot 1, not sure if a team from another country might be high enough ranked to get in pot 1?

Is there any rules regarding ownership. I notice a couple of red bull teams. I was reading about the 2 red bull football teams not being allowed to both be in the champions league.
I'd like to see a top top team in our group. Plus one beatable one.
More anxious to see our team rather than any others tbh.

Find it sad how Cardiff are ranked higher but haven't been in the CHL before, I wonder if there's any chance a 4th Pot team could move up, meaning that, just say for hypothetical situation Cardiff could play the French team.

If we get lucky and we draw the group with a German and Austrian team in it, do we stand a chance?
While I understand that the fans going to any of the away games wish to visit the top Arena's, I want us to be in competitive games at home. Granted it was fun when we playing the team from Finland, we came from 2-0 down to level the game and pulling a goal back against the Swedish team, however were outclassed.
I would also like to gloat that the Panthers did better than other Elite League team in the CHL especially since our beloved rivals are likely to do rather well in the Continental Cup.

In relation to the France/UK question - The rankings are done on a similar coefficients system to the one used by UEFA, so basically the number of spaces for each country are awarded on a points system. The better your clubs perform in previous years, the higher your national ranking, with the more recent years being weighted more heavily. The nations with the lower number of teams will always be ranked lower in the tournament, so essentially the answer is no because unless either a UK or French team were to win the CHL a few year on the bounce we wouldn't get any extra spaces in the tournament. Which will mean our space is always just one of the "challenge league" spots, and will inevitably be ranked as a pot 4 side.

Why is it sad? They outperformed us in every way last season and are consistently improvinng their franchise in the EIHL. They have new facilities, a forward thinking management and a better league record. They deserve their seeding. We are lucky to be in the thing if you look at the picture in its entirety. We got our place by performing in a few games with max effort. Cardiff grafted and got there with consistent effort.

it would make sense for us to be seeded lower than Cardiff, seedings are normally based on most recent form, regardless of us wining the CC. We are in the same pot, so it's not as if they have an advantage.

Conti Cup winners have always been the last seed...unless the team happened to qualify through usual league placing/championship means.
