I'd have thought though that previous CHL participation would have played a part in the ranking process.

Rankings are based on the league not club.
Only when you've got multiple clubs from same league (e.g. Sweden) do the rankings then get adjusted by teams.
Simple system and I expected nothing different.

Why are you belittling winning the Conti Cup??
It was a bloody big achievement for a team from our poxy backwater league to win it. If it was so easy to win since the inception of the CHL we'd have had had a GB team win it every year since. None have even got to the final.
We beat teams from superior leagues, with superior budgets, while being ranked bottom for both the semi and the final.
While I was in no way happy with our domestic performance last season, winning the Conti Cup was big. As Panthers fans you should be happy that the team won something and yes, created history while doing so!
Would you rather have had (e.g.) Belfast's season???

I think it was a big achievement and I think that in the fullness of time it will be looked back on as a good achievement, especially as we were the 1st British team to win in Europe. However lasts seasons hideous domestic campaign is still fresh in the memory and has unfortunately tarnished the achievement, at least for the time being. The feeling from some fans is that "we were rubbish" last season so the opposition "must have been easy". Unfortunately for the moment that's just how it is for some fans. I wouldn't swap for Belfast's season because ultimately we won something worth winning and Belfast won nothing. However as a season ticket holder who was unable to make any of the European games because of work I would imagine that the Belfast season ticket holders would feel that their season ticket delivered much better value for money than my Panthers one did. Most of their league games meant something where as we were well and truly out of the title race a long time before we even got to Christmas which as a fan sat with 5500+ others every week I found a bit hard to take.

A few years ago I would have agreed with you. But with all the top teams now in the CHL plus the rise in our import levels,it was no major achievement winning the conti cup. Until a couple of years ago we would have been playing the likes of Red Bull Salzburg,Stavanger Oilers,Slovak and Swiss teams etc. Go have a look at the past winners of it. There is absolutely no comparison these days,it was far easier to win this year than our Challenge cup was !

It was an achievement (especially in the context of last years team) but in the present format if it stays the same I would think that it won't take to long for other EIHL teams to win it and win it quite easily.

Agree with Rob Scott, a little distance from this shambles of a domestic season and, personally speaking, GM's endless tiresome milking of it, and I think the CC win will be looked back on very fondly. Don't really see that it matters if we're the lowest ranked or the 5th lowest ranked (or whatever), we'd still be in pot 4, and rightly so.

The SEASON was rubbish in the event of our effort towards wanting the league. The way we went about injuries etc...The fact that we put more feeling into the conti Cup at the expense of the domestic also hindered but winning the Conti Cup WAS something that was a great plus. I just wish we had more endeavour in all of the competitions.

Does anyone think that being in the CHL will help Panthers find that better class of player NO that's a load of crap spun by Panthers to try make our CHL games sound like a big recruitment tool. If a player wanted to play in good leagues in Europe he'd go and sign there, not sign in the EIHL just to play in six CHL games. If he's good enough, those top leagues would snap him up.

I think it'd be another plus point for the club, when a player is weighing up whether to join or not. That could translate into better Elite League players (a decent player with offers from multiple EIHL teams, for instance), but they'd still be Elite League players.
I just hope we don't bother with the ringers again.

Or it's been termed "an attraction" in the same context. You need to take more notice Pidge !

Teams from Pot 4 will be drawn first and then allocated to Groups A-H, before teams from Pot 3, Pot 2 and Pot 1.
