So last night Moran tells us there are no players out there and they've been looking for weeks. This morning we sign this Latvian guy. And now Corey tells us on Panthers radio (with Xymomix) there were many older guys with resume's but he wanted speed.
So somebody is or was lying !

Hoping the 'we're still looking for a D man' line in the radio interview is one of the typical Panthers cover ups of another signing to announce. Still need a steady D man if we do push for the PO's.

Definitely going to need one if Logan is out for several weeks I would have thought.

The fact he's set to debut in front of a full house in a total dead rubber of a game tells you everything. Why the hell should Panthers care about success if they've got so much evidence that success (and therefore their outlay) has absolutely no relationship with revenue?
It's a business. What would you do in their shoes? Would you start to spend more on ingredients if your restaurant was already the busiest and most profitable restaurant in the country?? Would you suddenly start to increase the size of the portions?
The fact is, unless people stop going, it's going to be like this forever. And unfortunately the "proper fans" who come on the Cage and talk about boycotts are massively outnumbered by the people who "like" even the tweets about embarrassing defeats (and they're Panthers fans) and pay their money on a Saturday night without really caring who wins.
Sheffield is different - the amount of money they generate is related to success, so they have to speculate to accumulate - it's a completely different business model.
I'm afraid Panthers fans just have to accept this is the way it is and like it or lump it. Which is the main reason I don't go anymore...

Can't argue with dp's logic unfortunately. I only wonder if "paid" attendances are actually going up or whether we give out loads of freebies?

Panthers don't give out that many freebies, around 200 ish tickets most games. Crowds have actually been fairly static the last couple of years, stuck in the high 5000's as an average.

There is no such thing as a "proper fan". Now there are less educated fans but that makes them no less a "proper fan" than anyone else who attends.

Oh, the good old "Proper Fan" debate again. I'd love an actual definition of it tbh, just to know if I qualify (I highly doubt it though)

A lot to little and a lot to late this domestic season has been a shambles

Posted in July, after he'd flogged us our season tickets for the domestic campaign I don't entirely agree with dp's point, I don't think it's too outlandish to think the management of a sports business could still have an interest in the sporting success of the business, as well as the financial success. In fact you quite often get examples where owners go too far the other way.

Well until people don't commit to season tickets in the summer nothing will change. Problem is by May most panthers have forgotten the dross what had been dished out for 8 months and think/hope/expect the next season to be different or better.
I can say no the. Recruitment will be a utter mess again players signed on shirt term contracts maybe even the odd player pulling out at the 11th hour like the 1st week of August.
I'd put my mortgage on Panthers starting short again..it will be guaranteed groundhog day. Don't fall for it.

so out of all the late recruitment this is the runt of the litter and a single child at that too..
oh and left it as late as possible to sign saving another bob or two on wages not bringing him in before the cup game.. great thinking again
And this after sheffield coach has said lots of players have approached him so no shortage there (end of the highlights video) so total crap about shortages if you are prepared to spend the going rate...
There is no wonder i am playing xbox saturday night these days and spending the money on a takeaway its better value....

I can understand that the Continental Cup was a priority but I don't understand why the rest of the season had to be thrown under the bus

Welcome to the new guy, i don't think any of us will feel ill will or disappointment towards him, the management have put this kid in a very tough situation imo. Hopefully he comes in all guns blazing and can give us something to smile about in the playoffs.
Too little too late? Yes, however I'm happy to see what this guy can do for us and i hope we at least make to the PO final weekend and close the season with our heads held high instead of fading out. The season has been a train wreck nobody can seriously deny that but personally, i would rather a train wreck with a strong ending over just a train wreck.

The critical words being...."if you are prepared to spend the going rate" I would bet my last pound that we had a chance to sign either Walker,Deaney or Ludoc but wouldn't spend the necessary money to get them. There was also the guy Braehead signed last week Stefan Della Rovere. You telling me Panthers didn't know about, wern't offered or couldn't have signed him when Braehead did ? 😐

Obviously some positions are where the roster needs some specific requirements e.g. D man who is a left hand shooter. However I seem to recall a post from Panthers (GM ?) where the sentiment was that there were plenty of players wishing to join the Panthers. Even if the specifics might not have been 100% match, its shortage of bodies to support an overworked roster which might have begun to take its toll.
