I think we'll see one of the two:
A) 1 more year then he leaves regardless of results for London franchise. B) 1 more year then we see a bizarre coach swap with Braehead (Finnerty's 2 year deal ends next season).
Although I would love a change in GM structure and Corey staying with the club while Gary Moran takes a step out of the door or at least a step towards it... Won't happen though.

Hope you mean BRAD MOAN and not Gary Moran!!!!! Brad Moan...? I assume with a name like that he is a regular on this board? Now corrected - blame last nights celebrations. should have been Brad Moran or Gary Moron

after TEN years of loyal service to Nottingham Corey has earned the right to choose if he wants to stay or leave. Following the play offs his value as a coach will have increased so offers will be around. my preference is for him to get a two year contract and not leave Nottingham?

Many people in here need a reality check.
We just came 5th in the league & whimpered out of the title race Months ago.
Don't let two cup victories cloud the judgement of how poor this team was at times.
Corey should go.

Its easy saying get rid of the most successful coach in the last ten years because ..... BUT , just WHO would be able to take on the job and supply the instant gratification and total league domination that some seem to think is so straight forward ? Answers please to this thorny question . If and when Corey decides to leave he will i am sure be missed and in the long run his time here looked back on fondly ....

If, we didn't I know, but if we had won our final 5 games after the CC final we would have won the league. That's how close the league title was this year. Massive hyperbole to say limped out of the race months ago. (Yes, you could argue that's a result of no one team being that good this year, but that's not the point)

He IS a good coach but as I have said before, what do you do after the grand slam? I feel he will get re-signed, he has taken silver and qualified us for Europe. Do I want him to re-sign? Not really.
I feel he has to be honest with himself and admit he is bored because that is how it looks from the outside. He needs a new challenge. He motivates for the cups and I attribute that to the North American mentality I mentioned before but that leaves us short.
The only silver lining to him re-signing would be that we could have a chance at making a strong impact on the Continental Cup and that would be a great jewel in the crown to his tenure at the Panthers.
One more year is likely, moving to London is likely, taking over as GM would be amazing but very unlikely I feel.
I guess we shall see what happens over the next few days.

I've not come across a single post that's asking for instant gratification and total league domination.. Many of us share different levels of opinion but nobody on here is that naïve. He will be missed and thanked/appreciated hugely (IF he is told thanks but no thanks) and he's had a great deal of success, 90% in one-off games I might add, but my God he's had the tools to do it! Corey's future will be decided by Neil Black and his advisors/board. Corey's future will not be decided by himself (unless he decides to walk). Any scenario other than that would be completely incorrect. The most successful Panthers coach? Possibly..... The most resources available for a Panthers coach? I'd say so.

There are not many of the regular posters on here who would give a new coach more than a couple of heartbeats to get total success - instant gratification - just my opinion for what its worth . If the trophy total is a measure of success then he tops the list . He has indeed had great resources but not rapid enough cover for injury . About half a dozen more regulation wins over the season and this thread would not exist . So , WHO is capable ?

I've felt we needed a shake up after last seasons decline, 5th in the league isn't good enough but you can't deny the trophy haul, 12 in his 10 years with the club. I get frustrated with Corey chipping and changing lines and not having a plan B and that he trusted green too much but he has proved he can deliver a team that wins. I think it's his choice if he stays or goes.

I am a fairly new supporter, only been watching hockey about 2 years but from what I can see we've been pretty spoilt under Corey. Yes he has only won one league title when maybe he could have won more but we are still the most successful club in terms of overall cups. I would say that the club needs a GM that can take some of the work load from Corey in terms of looking for players but I believe who ever managers the team will have a better idea of what the teams needs but there is obviously a problem higher up with getting players in. That problem might stem from Black owning Clan and he might not like spending money in two places at the same time. Maybe the club needs to be constantly told that the league is the main objective like Steelers do.
All in I do think Corey deserves more praise than he gets. You dont know what you have til its gone. Grass aint always greener

When we didn't change our lines every shift and when the club didn't wait to 1830 to announce injuries to avoid losses in ticket sales. Corey is good and we have been spoilt but that does not mean mediocrity is acceptable in the league. League games make the most of the calender and where we spend our energy week in week out, it deserves respect. We've been humiliated several times in the last few years due to this attitude. If he commits to the league as much as the cups I would be happy for him to stay.

Looking at CN's record since taking over as coach. I think he's at 8 attempts at winning the the League and only 1 success, hardly a great record given the resources available. In the other 7 years we haven't even finished 2nd once. Taking out the year Panthers won his record is as below (please check for errors!)
2008/09 3rd 11 points off the winners 2009/10 3rd 6 points off 2010/11 4th 15 points off 2011/12 3rd 15 points off 2013/14 4th 32 points off 2014/15 4th 9 points off 2015/16 5th 6 points off
So basically Panthers average League position in these 7 years is 4th and our average points of the winners is roughly 12.

Opinions are what a forum is all about and I may not necessarily agree with yours but it doesn't mean I don't respect it.. Corey Neilson is always going to polarise the Panther's fan base right down the middle and I dare say there is plenty of evidence on both sides as to why that is.. A lot of the issues I find with Neilson are a little more deep-rooted and have gone on season after season (exc. the Slam year) so this thread is always going to be around. Who is capable? I don't know, but the pool is by no means small.. Its also worth pointing out that the last three consecutive winners of the Elite League all did it with coaches in their very first season at their clubs so it is quite easily possible. Personally I'd be happy with just a really good effort at the league, not necessarily winning it..

Could not agree more about the forum being a place for reasoned discourse - on the money . The reason i think the thread would not exist is that had we gained just twelve more points over the course of a long season the discussion would just not have happened . I accept it as a case of "close but no cigar" given the closeness at the top of the table together with slowness getting injury cover. There or there abouts if you see what i mean . I also agree that there is a humungus pool of coaching talent out there , i just dont think that our forumites (generalisation ) in particular would be very good at giving new folks a chance to establish themselves . I too would have liked to see 100% effort every game , but how likely is that to ever happen ? I think that it would be a huge error getting rid of a proven winning coach , but if he gets a better offer then good luck to the guy . After all in the words of Meatloaf - two out of three ain`t bad . Or would folks have been content like Shuff with just one - and another year not being at the playoff weekend ? Not sure about that ........ Be careful what you wish for ...........

If he commits to the league as much as the cups I would be happy for him to stay. Yeah like I said maybe it should be drilled into everyone at the club that the league is what we want. The injury comment is something I don't buy. If you know the team that well that you know if someone is injured the team wont play well and therefore you feel that the team will lose without this player you probably have your ticket anyway. I just think its some weird thought in the clubs head. The people that get tickets on the day are usually spur of the moment people that don't really support the team and go for entertainment and wouldn't even know/care if someone was injured because they don't know the team. I can speak as a fairly new fan that the first time I went to a game was for entertainment/nightout and I wouldn't have cared if someone was injured and would have still gone. What i am saying is that I don't think injuries affect ticket sales when its announced on the day. The line changes are a bit daft sometimes but I do think that the most recent change of taking Lawrence off the Cam and Farmer line was a really good change. Apart from that I can totally see the frustration.

What you have to remember here is that it is basically a five team league regarding the league title race, because the other five just aren't going to win it. Panthers have won it once and only challenged once in the last 15 years, that is a terrible record.
Is that Corey's fault entirely,no I don't think it is,partly yes but not entirely. In my opinion,it is mainly Mr Black,Gary Moran and the whole club cultures fault, because they just will not do what some other teams do to win. Basically,if Panthers spent what they could easily afford, you could pretty much shoe any decent coach into Panthers and they would probably win the league, but the problem with Panthers is they don't react to injuries etc, they wait until the damage is done and then make a move. Contrast that with the other big boys and it's a stark contrast.
Look at the Grand slam year,we won the league that season because firstly we had a damn good team, but secondly because we had virtually no injuries that year. Now contrast that with this year,we go an import short for half the year,we get two or three long term injuries, plus several medium term ones too, then the goalie gets injured and misses almost a month. How did Panthers react to the injuries, well very slowly or not at all in most cases. If what happened this season had happened in the grand slam year, bearing in mind the points that season were close, would we have still won it......I think not !
Would we really still have won the league,if we had an import missing half the season,if Matt Francis had missed ten weeks out injured,if Jason Beckett had missed seven weeks out injured,Mark Levers had missed five weeks out injured,Stevie Lee had missed three weeks out injured and Kowalski had missed a month.....NOT A CHANCE !!!
I guess the moral is "do what you need to do or be lucky,or you ain't winning the league".
It's a good job we were lucky three years ago,or it would be sixteen years now and only even challenged for it once !

Assuming our GM is not moving on then I think I would on balance prefer Corey to remain. The league record is abysmal for the resources available during his reign but equally the cup record is stunning and by and large the entertainment level has been good. Clearly our coach and GM have a very healthy working relationship and I do worry what potential car crash awaits with a change in coach working with our GM. Adding someone like Brad Moran as an assistant player/coach would maybe help inject some fresh ideas and contacts , I think the club is ready for some fresh ideas as a whole but that would probably involve quite an upheaval and I don't think our owner has the appetite for that at the moment

When we didn't replace Wiikman or Dimmen quickly enough we were finished in the race. Maybe this wasn't Corey's fault this time, we had the makings of a very good outfit as the cup & play off form clearly shows. Perhaps it's a motivational issue, perhaps a couple more signings at the right time would have helped. Quick & McDonald certainly helped. Who to blame for the above is a good question but with NB & GM almost certainly going no where if there is to be a change it will be at the coaching levels. Here's a pertinent question, who's season would we rather have had..... Sheffield's or ours?

We finished 10pts off top, that's not a lot compared to previous years, if we'd have beaten Steelers once or twice and got a couple more favourable results we'd have probably won the league. The fact we finished 5th is harsher than it actually is, 10 points between 5th and League Champions.. That's incredibly close. If it was 15-25 points off top, fair enough but to say 5th isn't good enough just looks like an easy way to slate Corey and like people haven't watched other teams all year and just took a glance at the final table.
