If any of these named brits don't play any domestic hockey until say next September, their careers are pretty much done!

Plenty of players have taken a year out and come back to it.

Some might choose to carry on whatever they do during this year off but others will come back. They will be able to stay fit and individually train at rinks. When it starts again they will be rusty but then most Brits will be. Rustiness can fade pretty quickly.

Plenty of players have taken a year out and come back to it. Too positive much too positive, how dare you be so positive. If a athlete takes a year out he is doomed, totally doomed. Well on this forum he is.

Plenty of players have taken a year out and come back to it. Plenty have but if you are a dedicated pro sportsman unless you have a long injury lay off its not advisable in the slightest. Why haven't the likes of Herr and Martin etc just said sod it we'll put our feet up for 12 months?

It won't be ideal, but nothing is at the moment. I don't really see how recovering from an injury would be better than just having to sit out because there's no roster spot for you anywhere. Neither signals end of career, unless they decide they love the 9 to 5 so much they don't want to come back.

Hey if Tetlow and Haseldine can get a roster spot then all these names can, theres no excuses it will be down to laziness and not willing to take the risk.. or the other half not approving 😂

A married or attached man, with a mortgage and or children, will need to get a job with the guaranteed income that provides. An 18-21 yr old Brit, little or no financial obligations, doesnt need or can't get a playing job so finds he can meet his needs by working in a supermarket, and avoids the hassle of moving to a foreign country.

Credit to tetlow for trying a different league but jeez, even the Finnish 4th division will light him up! He'll last a couple of weeks Blimey, give the lad a break... Maybe some Finnish style coaching will give him a little bit more mobility? I can't imagine his new team have just looked him up on EP and said, "Oh, he's free, he'll do...". The real hockey world works a bit different to that. Good luck to him. He'll find a difference to the EIHL that's for sure, but he'll essentially be playing senior hockey but within his age group. There are only 3 players over 23 on their whole (24 and counting) roster. I can see only positives, but I guess that's the difference between me and you. Good luck to him.

Bob your like a breath of fresh air. Just putting the potential other side of the coin. I'm just a bit more "glass is half full" than some. I don't doubt Tets will find it initially difficult at that level in Finland. It's how he reacts and improves that will be the story. He's got it in him, he looked like he belonged last year, but got largely frozen out when 6 import D in 3 pairs became the norm. It's a potentially great move for him, I suspect he'll learn a lot of technical stuff in Finland that maybe isn't given too much emphasis in an NA-like league? Anyhoo, time, as always, will tell.

Tetlow & Hazeldine are the opposite end of the career ladder to Peacock, Venus, etc. They can benefit immensely from playing abroad in different leagues, can only improve their game.

If they stay the season then yes it will help the likes of Tetlow. The IF though is whether the team will play him and keep him if he’s not up to speed.

Golovkovs moves to Stromsbro IF who play in the HockeyEttan (3rd division in Sweden), to play with Deutsch. Interesting that they’ve gone to this league, I thought they’d both be able to get better jobs elsewhere, unless it’s only temporary...

If I was a young lad a season in Sweden with a liveable wage playing the game I love, compared to the shitehole of the universe that’s the UK would be a no brainer. Lovely country, nice people, pretty girls, exactly what’s crap about that.

I didn’t say it was they weren’t my words, I said you can’t fault the lad for going to Sweden. Pidge was the one who commented the 3rd tier was better than the EIHL, being sarcastic, I just responded in the language he understands sarcasm.

I didn't think Pidge was being sarcastic, but that's the subtlety and nuance you can miss with reading words on a page that can easily be read 2 (or more) ways. Objectively, the Swedish 3rd division is not as "good" as the EIHL, I think that's as close to a fact as we can get on this site. A job is a job, though, and I guess most of the slots in the SHL/Allsvenskan are taken already by players who are returning having taken the decision to perhaps not move, either within Sweden or abroad. Just a thought.
