Not sure that’s true. All of Sheffield’s goals against Cardiff were even-strength on Saturday, and all of their goals against Panthers for the last FOUR fixtures have been even-handed (plus two shorties), losing only once. I think it’s more a case of fitness and, now, their reputation for the 3rd period onslaught preceding them, which other teams fear and can do very little about. I’m not meaning to shoot you down but 2 of their 5 goals against Cardiff on Saturday were with the man advantage. Against us Sheffield haven’t been picking up PP goals but maybe that’s to do with the discipline we’ve been showing. 5-4 OT less they only had 4 PP opportunities. 3-1 loss (with an ENG) they had 4 PP opportunites, bearing in mind Fick also received 5+G. 3-2 loss they had 1 PP opportunity. 3-2 OT win they had 3 PP opportunities. On the whole Sheffield haven’t been racking up the goals against us in the same way that they have against other teams, and I believe that is down to how few PP chances we’ve given them. Stay disciplined and it gives you every chance of beating them. Oh okay, yeah flashscores hasn’t clarified any of those - but has for Devils! Weird. Still, I personally think discipline is one task among many of equal importance in dealing with Steelers. Conditioning and physicality would be my big two things, as they’re distinctly small and fit compared to the others. Bet only three or so of their players is north of six feet tall.

Conditioning or fitness is an odd one with this Steelers team. This season Panthers have 7 players who are age 30 or over, yet the Steelers have an incredible 17 players over 30 years old and a lot of those are well past 30 too. You would think if fitness was an issue then Panthers should win on that score hands down.

You would think if fitness was an issue then Panthers should win on that score hands down. My theory is that the actual fast-twitch speed guys are younger (Jono being the freakish outlier as per) like Deluca and Eberle, while one’s slow-burn gas tank is far less susceptible to age, which is why you get middle-aged people breezing through full marathons. Add to that the fact none of them are especially physical but most are brimming with skill, and it starts to build a picture of their reputation for speed as essentially the same few guys who are rapid on the break, coupled with extremely slick and accurate passing from the elders, even if they themselves don’t move quickly. Lemtyugov is a good example. He’s what, 33, and absolutely glacial going forward, but has still dangled entire lines and scored, also virtually never misplaces a pass. It doesn’t take that much intensity to be very slick, and as long as you have the stamina to go a full 60 at 70% you can pull it off.

What a way for the Belfast Giants to close out 2019... losing 3-6 AT HOME to bottom-of-the-table Dundee Stars! I think that calls for another drink... cheers! Make it a claret, for absent friends. claretgiant Chortle.

So yeah, Vallerand aside their goals come from the small guys, and the big guys - Hrabal and Davey Phillips - aren’t particularly physical, just good at positional defending and puck control. In fact, I’d say the most physical are Dowd and Armstrong, both of whom aren’t known for active aggression (towards skaters).

Makes getting the win against Belfast even more important Add the Cardiff are behind v Coventry by one goal bar the extra man now they have with 4 to go. EDIT: and the blighters have scored on it.

Cardiff win their game after a long shootout. spik 's fault! Your just pleased your not getting the flak this time.. Manchester fought well against Belfast, Dundee did us proud and get closer to Manchester in the league. Such a pity about Coventry being ahead then falling at the last.

I said there will be twists in the remaining league games, tonight is the first. Who saw that loss coming for Sheffield? They make the long trip to Fife tomorrow.
Cardiff manages to sneak past the Blaze, all 3 of their goals coming on the PP as well.
Every game is massive, every one a cup final.

Just got to hope we don’t balls it up tomorrow now. We like to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Just got to hope we don’t balls it up tomorrow now. We like to shoot ourselves in the foot. Yep. I thought coming off the international break we'd need to win every game going into the Sheffield game next weekend and then win that. Then we could start to feel like we may have a real chance. O.K we dropped 1 point in Manchester but we may just be able to get away with that. With so many games left to play between the top 4 it could still go anywhere. Cardiff must be strong favourites now, but even they are dropping points to teams outside the top 4. I dont think we can afford to drop more than 3 points ourselves. Non of those can be against Cardiff or Sheffield either. Who knows. My gut and my mind say Cardiff, my heart still has sone hope left yet, and it's mind February 😱

Going to have to find another wheels off gif tonight... I've got one ready, but Steelers just got 1 back so I'm holding on to it for a minute first.
