The upcoming schedule is a tough one especially with so many injuries as it heaps pressure on what looked like a knackered squad on Thursday night. Now is the time to show what we are made of. Let’s hope we’re not disappointed.

This Steelers team at 100% is the best in the league for me. They have serious firepower. Well I’d call that about 70%. No Dowd or Deluca, both pretty talismanic. That being said, I truly think this is a season in which it’s uniquely difficult to identify the straight-up best side. Steelers are in form, but only because they’re outscoring their many goals against, and their earlier third of the season showed them to be beatable, and it’s not unreasonable to assume that not loads has changed apart from their conversion rate and team spirit. Any game shows their weaknesses right in front of their own net. Don’t get me wrong, what they have can definitely buoy them to a title if not more, but they aren’t the kind of all-round depth force we’ve seen from previous champions. I don’t doubt that if Cardiff held their lead or equalised, most would be saying the same about them right now — but they were beaten by Storm and Blaze a few weeks ago. We’re on course to have the lowest points-totalling champion in EIHL history, which makes for an extremely fun home stretch. Four teams are still in total contention and Devils remain in the driving seat for me.

You say disappointment but what we were expecting of Panthers at the start of the season.. many were saying we were 4th at best!
Just be grateful this Panthers team are still fighting for something mid January.
Yup devils still hold the advantage for me.

I watched the game in Cardiff tonight and I thought Cardiff threw it away. They didn’t convert a lot of guilt edged chances and after going ahead in the third they didn’t build on that momentum, they let Sheffield back into very easily. I also have to say that a couple of Sheffield’s goals I’d expect Carr to save. Bowns made some magical saves and got beaten easily, very strange. Sheffield’s first win against Cardiff after losing the previous three this season.

The best result for us with games in hand on Sheffield. Needed Cardiff slowed down. However.....

Still most likely one of if not THE most expensive assembled this season, along with Cardiff and Belfast... is that 1, 2 and 4? Panthers sneaking 3rd spot atm as stated by pidge are overachieving based on squad strength at the start of the season but it has been noted our captain is pulling the others along with his sheer ability (long may it continue) and the club have brought in a few to replace what now clearly was dead wood. Moving to what we have now, given our injury list and still some players underachieving imho, it would be prudent if this challenge is to continue, to at least try to match the spending of the others. Afterall it is now only for a couple of months till the end of the current league campaign and would give the team a fighting chance to actually win something this season thus turning what was expected i.e. middle of the pack alsorans into something pleasantly unexpected..

And those that were saying 4th Pidge look to be about spot on as that was based on the seasons starting roster. Take away Talbot,Hanson and Horvat and i would guess Panthers would be 4th,5th or maybe even 6th now. They certainly wouldn’t be 3rd.

Certainly pushing Cardiff for the most expensive roster, yes. Panthers are 'comfortably' below them both & Belfast, even with the new additions.

The person who signed the original team recognised the faults and rectified them and were still crucifying them for that? Position doesn’t really matter in this context. If we finish 4th this season but we’re 4 points off and we’re still playing for a championship, surely that’s better than being 22 points off, finishing third and having nothing to play for since December like last season?

We identified players needed to go and got players in who had more of an affect. Not something we’ve been great at historically. We are still in the hunt, fair play to Doucet and Wallace. Way better than Chernomaz last season and I think we are building a good foundation.

The club made mistakes in recruitment, Doucet will probably admit they got it wrong, but he’s now corrected those mistakes. I don’t think the will or desire of the team could be questioned even when we were struggling, we just brought players in with more ability who still had the right attitude. You can argue that there’s still players that haven’t hit expectations, but for once, we’ve going a team that deserves our support. I’ve really enjoyed supporting the team over the last few months, I think the majority of the fanbase have, there seems to be a feel good factor around the club right now. As a club, it feels like we’re making strides in the right direction.

Sheffield have taken an early lead against Belfast. 1 0 Now 1-1, both goals on the powerplay. Belfast aren’t a very disciplined team, hopefully that doesn’t work in Sheffield’s favour.

Cardiff 2-0 down in Dundee. Dundee are the only side yet to beat the Devils (up until yesterday, so were the Steelers).

We shall see in time if he’s right.

I did say in the summer and during their CC campaigne that pelech would be a liability lol. Now anyone who takes a major is simply "a liability"... Say what you like about a player, but its hard to call a player who leads the the whole team in +/- "a liability" based on one incident. Prima facie, the exact opposite... Given the comment above, the video might be interesting to see. Absolute monster weekend for Steelers. Missing 2 of their top 6 and still taking 4 points from Cardiff and Belfast. If I was a betting man...
