I agree, he’s a real offensive threat this season, I think the fact he’s playing with Herr and Hansen might be helping. Wallace does have a headache though when Perlini returns, as Malmquist has been excellent in his place on that line. It will be interesting to see how the forwards line up. A problem Panthers haven’t had much the last few seasons... It's a nice problem to have... Bearing in mind that none of us are coaches, so are speaking from a position of almost-total ignorance... my inclination would be to let Malmquist stay where he is, if it's working for him. You've got to think that Perlini has more experience (and talent?) and should therefore be able to make a good go of it on another line...

Since my enforced departure I'm now EIHL freelance. Enforced departure....Lol 🤣 It’s what happens in Pantherland I’m afraid, they don’t like hearing criticism or sarcasm etc or you’ll get blocked, sidelined or fired. If that's true... what are you still doing here?

So according to the Elite league the games are to be played on either 15th, 22nd or 29th. The only arena event I can see interfering is slipknot on the 21st (would they get everything changed over in time?). However there's also the fact we play a home game on the 14th. I assume we don't want to play a cup game the next day, especially as we'd only just be back from the Continental cup. Worry not... we have the 2nd leg at home on the 29th (away leg on 22nd). <link>

And in other news... Belfast, having lost the 1st leg of their CC QF vs Cardiff 1-0, tonight also failed to score and lost 4-0 in the second leg. 120 minutes, no goals. Oh dearie dearie me...

That was an entertaining game to watch (good stream from Cardiff)... the Devils were throwing everything at us, including the kitchen sink, but we held them off pretty well. How the hell our second goal sneaked in, I'll never know... but it was a beauty. As was Ollie's OT winner. Two very useful points well earned... just hope that Perlini is going to be OK.

The 4th goal... did Perlini actually touch it? Hard to tell... looked like it might just have taken a horrible bounce (well - horrible for Guildford, good for us!).

That's a pleasant scoreline to see... Coventry has often been a bogey location for us, so nice to see a solid win. And another successful outing for Jackson Whistle... nice to see that I may have been wrong about him! Doubling up on an opposing team is always a good thing. Out of idle curiousity, I worked out the highest/lowest scoring teams as of this evening... we are currently sitting 5th in the league with an average of 3.05 Goals For per game, but 3rd in the league with an average of 2.76 Goals Against per game. Which isn't too shabby... So pretty much what most fans were predicting we have a good defence but not likely to trouble the leading goal scorers... Not necessarily... remember that these stats are for the whole season so far... including The Bad Times (TM) some weeks back. Now 3 of our lowest-scoring import forwards have departed, and in have come Hansen (6+3 in 13 games), Talbot (4+5 in 8 games) and Horvat (1+3 in 2 games)... which is boosting things up - and we can hope/expect that to continue. Plus Bulmer has woken up and is now seriously contributing... and even Malmquist has started scoring! So - if the current trend continues, we will hopefully be rising up the scoring charts. Top in Goals For are Sheffield, but they are 6th for Goals Against... not the safest of combinations! Cardiff are better placed IMO, being 3rd in Goals For and 4th in Goals Against. The other team with a combined ranking of 7 (GF rank plus GA rank... hey, it's a fast-and-dirty way of seeing relative strengths!) is, would you believe, Guildford Flames... joint 6th on Goals For, but top of the league for Goals Against with an average of 2.53 per game. By comparison, our combined ranking is 8... putting us at joint 4th in the league with Belfast. It's not world-beating by any means... but the trend for us appears to be noticeably upwards, which is promising. Still an awful lot of season to go...

That losing streak was bad. It was really bad. But to put together some form now is great. Especially considering the time of year. I can’t remember winning that many games in December in years let...and it’s only the 7th. You might be surprised... That car-crash of a 18-19 season? December - played 14 games (inc. 2 Challenge Cup quarter-finals) - won 6, lost 4, OT/penalties loss 4 December in the 17-18 season was actually worse... 11 games played - won 3, lost 6, OT/pens loss 2 December in the 16-17 season was much better... 13 games played - won 8, lost 3, OT/pens loss 1, and 1 draw (CC quarter-final, 1st leg)

Belfast's turn to have their teddy-bear toss ruined by being shut out 0-4 at home by They Who Squeal... although 2 of those goals were empty-netters, so perhaps not quite as bad for Belfast as it may appear. Still funny, though! And the right result for us from the weekend double-header between those two teams... they split the points, no extra point in OT for either.

It appears that Steelers were not happy ot the refs (Sewell and Dalton) last night. If they are the two refs this afternoon, I can see Uncle Tony having words to make sure they get the rub of the green today!! Stats from their game last night (from the EIHL website):- Penalties taken:- Cardiff 11 Sheffield 8 PP goals:- Cardiff 1 Sheffield 2 On the face of it... doesn't look all that lopsided against Sheffield, does it? Going on past experience, we're going to have to watch out for Sheffield running our netminder... especially with the likes of Armstrong on the roster, that's always a danger... but when they're feeling all butthurt, it only gets more likely.

Mardiff bounce back by thrashing those without power. Not sure who deserves the 'mardy' reference at the moment... Steelers fans going into meltdown about the refs... yet interestingly, Cardiff took more penalties and Sheffield scored more PP goals. Hmmm...

Guys... can we keep this thread to rumours instead of yet another collection of moans and niggles, please? It's not as if you've not turned plenty of other threads onto such already (the count must easily be in the hundreds by now).

Perception is odd isn't it... I "clearly" remember in the old barn the 2nd periods being our worst with upmost confidence of coming back in the third… I remember a few years ago that everyone (including myself) was convinced that our PP was the worst in the league... the debates and diatribes were endless. Then somebody (Bobness - was it you? ) totted up the stats and worked out that it was something like 2nd or 3rd best in the league at that stage of the season! Lots of egg on lots of faces...

Fair result. All over them 2nd period and got rewarded. 3rd period seemed to aim to play out the gams and try and hold on to the lead and got punished. Overtime was poor, but we're used to that. Frustrating because we created a lot of breakaways that could have put the game to bed, but didn't take our chances. So... decidedly better than the car crash that was the team 5-6 weeks ago, but still with room for improvement? Sounds about right...

Talbot winning face offs hugely helps us especially in the third Does anybody have any face-off winning stats for Talbot (or the team as a whole) from this tournament? Would be interesting to see...

I agree with what you’re saying, but one player who seems to avoid criticism is Rheault, he’s no better than last season and he’s been the worst performing forward imo. He gets regular power-play time, he’s always parked in front of the net when he’s out, yet he’s produced very little. But we seemingly have to accept it because he’s going to Uni... Anyway, an interesting game today up in Glasgow where they take in the Squeelers. Hopefully the Clan can take a regulation win. Rheault Is crap. Fact. Is that the Rheault who got the GWG tonight? (That, by the way, is a real fact - the previous statement was an opiniom).

Team Canada will be wanting to use this as a warm-up game, just as the GB team are... so the roster should be made up of players from the squad that they are taking to the Worlds. They may decide to start a backup netminder and give some of the 'lesser' players more ice time than they may get a week later... but you'll be seeing plenty of NHLers, I'm sure. Thought so, it will be one of those games you'd be kicking yourself over if you don't go and then found out who iced Possibly... that depends on whose teams are knocked out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs before the tournament, and then whether eligible players from those teams agree or decline to be considered for the Worlds roster. Some of the big names are known to be happy to play, others not. Here's the eventual roster from last year's Canada team that GB faced in Slovakia:- <link to IIHF>

£46 is a lot of money for a 1 off friendly especially at this time of year. What is the likelihood of current NHL players icing during this game, doesn't have to be the higher tier players (Crosby would be amazing) but I don't want it to be prospects either. I'm guessing this will sell out early, should have fans from all teams at the game. Wonder if we will get USA soon Team Canada will be wanting to use this as a warm-up game, just as the GB team are... so the roster should be made up of players from the squad that they are taking to the Worlds. Their Worlds roster won't be packed with stars. A small handful of big names potentially but majority just solid NHL players. Which by some definition would make them stars and it'll be great to watch but important to manage expectations. We won't be seeing any Crosby-Tavares-McDavid lines. Exciting times for sure though. Have to remember sometimes to take this all in because we're punching well above our weight and although we deserve everything we are getting, we won't be here long term. No I expect GB will get relegated this time round due to the fact Belerus cant get relegated I think. It's worse than you think. Belarus and Latvia are co-hosting the 2021 Worlds, so neither of those two teams can be relegated next May. Which means GB have to finish above 2 other teams who aren't either Belarus or Latvia if they are to stay up at the top level. A task made all the harder by the fact that the other teams now know that GB can achieve more than expected... we won't be underestimated again. If staying up in Slovakia was a minor miracle, then staying up in Switzerland will be a major miracle! But who knows? None of us expected to win the group in Budapest in April 2018, and none of us expected to avoid relegation in Kosice earlier this year. The GB team have shown that they can dig deep and massively overachieve. I am expecting relegation next May. But I could be wrong - again.

I wouldn't quite go that far, we're still a joke. We did the bare minimum to stay up. You're basically paying £40 to watch a training session Were you there in Slovakia? I was... and I can tell you straight off - the GB team are most certainly not regarded as a joke by the opposing teams... including the big boys. Actually, there was one team that initially regarded GB as a joke... France. Oops. The GB team may often be outclassed, and everyone knows it... but other teams have learned to take us seriously. Which will make it even harder in Switzerland, but there you go. And if you don't want to watch the match, don't - that's your privilege. Nobody will miss you.
