Shocked to hear Wigan beat Leeds yesterday, although Saints currently losing 10-6 to Cas!

Yeah i watched the Leeds game, was well gutted. Wigan just defended the whole second period. If it wasnt for stupid mistakes with knock on's and Forward passing it would of been different. Although looking at wigans winning try, it looks forward, but ah well mistakes happen in fast games. Still 4 point gap

The biggest weekend of rugby league's superleague is upon us. Millenium Magic is 6 games over 2 days at that big stadium in Cardiff. The games are: Saturday Huddersfield Giants v Warrington Wolves - 3pm Castleford Tigers v Wakefield Trinity Wildcats - 5pm - live on sky Bradford Bulls v Leeds - 7pm - live on sky
Sunday Catalans Dragons v Harlequins RL - 2.30pm Hull FC v Hull K R - 4.30pm - live on sky St Helens v Wigan - 6.30pm - live on sky
It is a huge weekend for rugby league fans and well worth a look to any one looking for some summer sporting action.

Saints were officially AWESOME today! Thats the best first half i've seen in a long time.. I think some poor Wigan defence helped big time but we had the opportunities and certainly capitalised on them. Best game Sean Long has had in 2 seasons.

Was a very good weekend of Rugby there. And to top it off, Leeds won on the saturday making me happy.
Just been reading the Super League website on how they are making it so that atm you must have 5 home grown players in your team but it goes up each year by one until you must have 10 in the team at the same time and go from 10 overseas players to 5 by 2012. Gotta say this can only be good for the league and eventually Team GB should reap the benifits.
Also looking at the liscencing and 19 teams have applied, a minamum of 14 will be accepted. Maybe more depending on circumstances. The league is looking strong, crowds are up, Sky sports coverage. Hope this sort of thing eventually spills over and the rub of the luck comes Ice Hockey's way.

But the crowd at Cardiff looked very disappointing. I'm guessing it was around the 30,000 mark like last year.
If only they could give Celtic a franchise. Not sure their bid is strong enough.

I believe they might just make it as a cat B application, They will get a point for no other team within 20 miles. As for the others i can only guess and go on info from the national league website. But This application if i'm correct puts them above the likes of castleford, feathstone, widnes, wakefield and afew otehrs who could only scrape Cat C for their applications. Yes there are other things to look at, but they could make it.
8 or more points - A Licence 5 or more points - B Licence Less than 5 points - C Licence
CRITERIA
YES/NO
PTS Capacity of 12,000 + YES 1 Premier competition standard ground NO 0 Average crowd of 10,000 + NO 0 Operating at 40 per cent full YES 1 Turn over £4million + NO 0 Solvent YES 1 Contribution to competition NO 0 Junior development YES 1 No salary cap breaches YES 1 No club within 20 miles YES 1 GRAND TOTAL 6 LICENSING GRADE B

The main reason was Castleford could not get a package together to sign the guy perminantly and get his trained up asap.
Rumour has it afew others clubs in the league are interested in trialing him.

I had no idea their ground was 12,000+. There were 60,000 at Cardiff and the rumour is they may go to Murrayfield next year. Not sure that is a good idea. They will do Cardiff in 2010.

well going on the stats aginst teams like widnes they pulled in over 6k to watch it. Other games are about 4k average, so working it out ide say it's around the 40% mark for the season.

It will be very interesting to see which of the current SL teams dosn't get the franchise, as its strongly rumoured that a famous Yorkshire club, will miss out.
Main ones that might miss out are Wakefield or Castleford, with Castleford in the better position as they have planning permission for a new stadium.
Our house is split, Im a Hull KR fan, and the wife is a Hull FC fan, quite funny when we went to Cardiff Millenium and she sat in the middle of the Rovers fans with her Hull FC top!
Hull Kr have closed their gap on their cross city rivals after having being in the doldrums for over 15 years.
Its a very fiece rivalry here in Hull with some Hull FC fans alledgedly not eating bacon becuase its red and white !!

Saw the repeat at midnight, was not the sort of action and play from Leeds i like to watch. Very indisciplined and as much as i like to see lifted tackles in the NRL it is not allowed here and deserved to be punished. Both of them looked like atomic power bombs/tombstones.
Ah well there is still a 2 point lead and hopefully Leeds can get themselves back in some order and keep plugging out results.

Oh my, it looks like when Friday comes around I will have to sit in my Saints shirt and do the unthinkable.
Shout for Wigan!!
If they can do the business against the Rhinos and we can win at Harlequins on saturday, then it will be a point for point shootout for the league leaders shield.
Out of 8 remaining Superleague games, Saints have 5 away and 3 home (including Wigan home and away). Leeds have 4 and 4 with two trips to Wigan and a home derby with Bradford.
Who Knows?

Wow! What a game! I thought Wigan had it all sewn up when they went 17-0 up but Leeds were brilliant in the last 20 minutes. The comeback is a bit of Rhino's speciality this season although 3 defeats in the last 4 games is keeping the smiles on the faces of us Saints fans.
Now the game at Twickenham Stoop is a must-win for us. We can go top, but only if we win by a 32pt margin. I can't see the Quins being an easy game.
Fingers crossed!
