Come on now Alf the name of the thread is hardly fair after being served up that now is it? Lighten up a little tex. The thread title is fully justified as is everyones right to do what it says. If people want to moan about an abject performance as paying customers they have every right to do so. I feel I deserve some credit for my foresight on this one, even if it was intended as a joke.

Play like that next weekend and we're out, no question.
Credit to Phoenix, played like they wanted to win and got it. Steelers are certainly in for a tough time. As for us, if we don't get our defending sorted Cardiff will have a field day.

Yep seemed a fair enough title to me, kudos Alf.
Though I do see a lot of the points people are making and I think they are fair enough too. We just didn't click, and I think the odd lines were to blame for that. Add to it that it seemed to matter more to the Phoenix and we were totally murked.
I don't buy the "The players didn't care enough to put any effort in" line either. Some of them skated their hearts out, like Wally and Macca. It just didn't happen and I think it simply down to the fact the right people weren't on the ice the same time as each other.
We do need to step it up big time next week.

ok we lost a meaningless game move on!
as for entertainment it happens how many gigs have you guys been to and the band were pants on that night?
Personally i enjoyed watching mr hand picking out brilliant passes all over the ice, and their NM coming out with some stunning saves, also to be fair if you want to keep your guys from geting injured the last ref you need to see on the ice is hicks!

We certainly need to do a lot better than that next weekend.
Fair play to the Phoenix though, should give them a good tie.

I've not bothered with many games this season, having seen the side Mike Ellis had put together, but that about sums it up. Teams that sit back and hit us on the break seem to give us problems we can't handle. We lack goal threat and rely far too much on Levers, Myers and Richardson to be play-makers. When it doesn't work the defencemen jump in far too often leaving the opposition countless break-away chances. Although Askey didn't exactly cover himself in glory last night, he was hung out to dry far too often. At least three of the oppositions goals were handed to them on a plate and there were a couple more that they passed on. P.S. Richardson is a promising player and I'd like to see him back (but not in place of a first line centre).

Played poorly last night but at times we were unlucky as well for two reasons. 1. Fankhouser was on fire and made some outstanding saves. 2. We hit the post around 5 times so that would of made it 7-4??
Askey looked off the boil last night, needs to get himself sorted. Only Macca, Wally and Bergin looked interested tonight. Molin was no where and TBH i won't miss him if he doesn't return because i think we could find a better goalscorer.
We play like that next week we've got no hope.

Thing is, next weekend i think we will win as we are a totally different team in big games, we all know what we can do when we turn up and that will be the case next saturday and sunday.

If it was such a meaningless and nothing game why did people bother going.
Imagine had that been your first game, would you go back?
The team/management/owners owe it to the people who pay their wages.
Nothing game my left nut, play to win or don't bother playing at all.

ok we lost a meaningless game move on! Bet GM wishes there were more fans like you poor attempt at sarcasm mate the GM likes most ST holders this time of year i feel ! So tell me what was vital about the game last night then? If we had won the game points made no difference to our position, but lost say bergin, askey, pelts to injuries would that be ok Bramley? the only thing that mattered yesterday was keeping all the team fit for the playoffs, so as to the result it was meaningless, and that plan was scuppered with myers injury maybe! Also i enjoyed some of the stuff from the mancs, why is it we never give the other team any credit for their performance at our place!

P.S. Richardson is a promising player and I'd like to see him back (but not in place of a first line centre). Can't see that happening. Though I would usually say never say never, the discussion I had with Mike at the quiz night suggests it won't happen. Was happy playing the likes of Wally as a first line center as he managed to do this successfully in the Swedish top league. Also, he puts good faith in the 3 Brit Centers we have at the club to do the job also. It does make you wonder, for the last 4 years the team with the best centermen in the league have won the league. Cov 05 - Carlson Belfast 06 - Fluery Cov 07 - Carlson Cov 08 - Carlson

Can't understand why Mike wouldn't want Mark back - if you look at their stats, Mark is equal to Myers (our top Brit as voted last night), at 0.45 points per game, and ahead of Levers who is averaging 0.40 points per game. On that basis, without injury he may have been our highest point scoring Brit this season.

Are you saying oldman that ME thought it was a meaningless game, if you are, get your facts right ,ME wanted us to be on fire when we play Cardiff, full of confidence, after last night I think not. Another one of your fantastic none factual posts.

didnt say what mike wanted,
fact is the game didnt matter yes or no?
did it affect our position yes or no?
was it more important not to pick up any major injuries or winning yesterday yes or no?
as to what mike says to the press to get bums on seats that another story, if we beat the devils home and away next week or at least get into the playoff finals, will you or anybody else care about last nights performance yes or no?
the other fact is manchester were slightly better than us at taking their chances and so won yes or no?
Try those facts for now!

Oldman, I dont want to jump on you in particular but since you posted last and made a valid point for debate il answer. Yes it did No it didnt And a completely irrelvant question. All games matter. Some new fans, lots of people there for a 'nothing'game who probably wudnt bother again. People who you dont get a second chance to impress a lot of the time. How can that not matter? I understand your point and therefore agreed with question 2 but to lose 2 games going into the playoffs and with the lines all over the shop is not the preperation we need. Final point, theres not putting yourself in a position to get hurt then theres not giving a toss. Manchester put in 110%, how many injuries did they get? Wanting to win and being up for a game doesnt get you injured. If guys had knocks I wudnt mind them being rested at all but the fact they dressed should mean they are out there wanting to win. Lets see what the playoffs throws up this season

..Why is it we never give the other team any credit for their performance at our place! Why should we need to? It's like when the announcer says "And please welcome onto the ice tonights visitors: The ..... ....." and people applaud! In which other sport do home fans applaud the away team coming into their arena? Shouldn't we be making the atmosphere as intimidating as possible?

You are the most guilty man here of wearing 'superfan glasses'
Interesting that your man Rafa is not treating the game today as a nothing game, what have L'pool got to gain from today?

Oldman, you really want to lighten up, it's when players of any sport take it easy, that injuries are most likley to happen.

Also i enjoyed some of the stuff from the mancs, why is it we never give the other team any credit for their performance at our place! I never said at any point that the win was vital but as professional sportsmen who are paid by the fans who watch them they should put in 100% effort every game. I can't believe some of the comments you make, are you seriously happy watching the team putting in a half arsed display? If we had lost any players by putting in a solid performance then thats unlucky but overall thats sport. You ask any coach and they'll tell you the exact same, injuries are more likely to occur when your just coasting rather than giving your all. It's alright saying yeah we played crap last night but next week we'll really put a show on, it doesn't work like that. It's impossible to have a laid back attitude but then get into a winning mentality, you can't turn it on and off like a switch. It's all or nothing as usally you'll get found out. I just hope it isn't in the next couple of weekends. Nick

Imagine had that been your first game, would you go back? i took my mate chris to his first game last night. he summed it up as 'sh*% game but its good that you can have a beer while you watch it' i think that says alot, dont you? he said he'd come back, but only after i explained that it was a terrible display that we witnessed. for people that dont know any better, or dont have someone else telling them the team can play 100% better than they did, i imagine they'd be out the door like a shot.
