The link doesn't work for me Nem, but easy enough to find. Good luck to the Devils raising the extra cash needed.

Seems to be putting a space between "future" and "-91466...." in the URL, even though you haven't typed one (gets converted to %20 when you click it and messes up the address). Think thats a prob with the board.

What a shame, a team that was doing so well a couple of months ago now gets hit with player injuries and financial problems. They could sell a player or 2 but i doubt they could ice after that what with suspensions aswell.

Beginning to think it is only a matter of time before we are down to an Elite league of just 5 or 6 teams and will have no option but to take a step backwards into the BIHL

We'll have Petricko back! Ellis is looking to strengthen the Blue line, so don't think that he would even go there checking his availability! I wouldn't give the boot to another player for Petricko

You know, every time I read about a club possibly folding, I think 'That God it's not happening to us'.
But it is in a sense. It's one more nail in the coffin that is English Ice Hockey. It's seen as a minority sport, and the more people read about problems, the more they'll keep that opinion.
I'll be gutted for the fans if that happens to Cardiff. They've come through a bleak period, fought like hell to get hockey back in Cardiff, and still come up against problem after problem.
We play them next month (3rd) so come on Panthers fans, show your support and make every effort to go to that game.

I think people should realise though. If we had been given the Money thta a sponser hasnt come through with, then we would be hitting a break even point maybe even hitting a small profit. Just one thing has to go wrong though for a lot of other things to go belly up

Gazza,
Have the Devils organisation ever contacted Welsh sporting and rock heros like Joe Calzaghe or Stereophonics. They might chip in with the odd pound or two, after all there all in the entertainment business.

Good luck Cardiff, hope you raise that cash. Did really well in the play-offs last year and they'll definitely be there again this time round.

I also believe one of them is good friends with Jason Stone so i guess there is a possibility there although im sure that avenue has already been covered due to the stoney link. the problem we will always have is, the council and planet ice would have a merry dance on our grave should we ever go under so any good we ever do will always ultimatly be crushed by those powers. Why they cant just let us play ice hockey every week and get on with things themselves is a mystery to me. Oh and just for the info every other organisation playing out of the tent pays a much lower service charge than the Devils do.

I sincerely wish the Cardiff Devils, all the best of luck in their latest dilema. It may seem a long shot Gazza, but d'ya not think it'd be pretty cool to be actually sponsored by the likes of the Stereophonics?. Fantastic publicity for both parties me thinks.

Funnily enough the NIC make it awkward for the Panthers and their fans and I'm sure they would prefer to not have hockey in the arena at all. Seems strange these ice arenas not being interested in supporting ice hockey...

I'm afraid this is going to be harsh.
Cardiff will have to cut their cloth accordingly, and that probably means cutting an import or two.
In the grand scheme of things, £1,500 is a small price to pay each week, especially when you consider we pay £10,000 upwards just to hire the NIC for 1 game!
OK, it might make them less competitive, but surely that's better than going out of business altogether?

The problem with that is Jono is that at the moment osaer and Prpich have serious injuries and have to be paid. We could easily send Prpich home to fend for himself but we arent in the business of doing that. I am sure though once he is sorted soon then we will run with 9 imports plus lee cowmeadow staying on. I'ed be sponsered by the Sheffield steelers if it meant we had competitive elite league hockey heatly

Mmm seems to have come out of the blue this (well maybe not -with the Christmas bonus rumours ). In regards to players being cut...I'm not being funny but doing that won't really achieve much in the grand scale of things. The British players are on pennies - probably Sample and Hill are the biggest earners but nothing like in terms of average import levels or the top end Brits. Then, you could look at getting rid of Silverthorn or Deschatelets and rip the whole first line to shreads - then see the team lose week in week out and lose around 300 paying customers come the end of the year. Sponsorship keeps most teams alive in this league and it's no different in Cardiff. I just hope they get that extra £20k soon... I hope Panthers bring a lot down next time they visit, and the Blaze are in town in a couple of weeks, as well as the Steelers at the end of the month, so an increase in away revenue may help out slightly there! Me thinks Planet Ice are getting just what they set out to achieve - to ruin this club, and it really gets my back up!!!

Cardiff Council alos have to take a lot of criticism for this whole mess. Their 'promise' to us was for us to leave the WNIR under the SAME (key word there) deal we had there. This included Free Ice time, Ice time for ALL useres of the rink at their times they had in the old place. And to just generally keep the status quo. At the moment planet ice are introduicng their own skating times and are charging our 'service charge' at a much higher rate than anyone else. The council have the power to stop this, yet they wont
