I expect Bison to be difficult to beat but top 4? Who out of Cov, Nottm,Sheff and Belfast are they gonna finish above? Id say they can push for 5th tho definatly Of the four named? - Belfast, I'd have thought. They look weaker than last season, definitely. Basingstoke could well be the dark horses this season, as many have been saying. But it's looking like a far more competitive league overall, and that's the most important thing.

personally i reckon the league can be split into three groups, belast, cardiff, coventry, nottingham and sheffield top 5. basingstoke, edinburgh, manchester and newcastle 6-9 and hull last by a country mile. as to where teams will end up within these groups i ain't got a clue

and hull last by a country mile. i do feel hull have strengthened slightly this year although that is a minor as it seems everybody apart from belfast (and maybe coventry's D) have improved. and its hard to tell at the moment where each team stands, im definatly not writing off Belfast or Hull by any means and who knows belfast may end up winning the title and coventry having the best defence!? nobody knows at this stage untill a few months into the season where a picture begins to take shape

Well I agree if I was pushed to name one but theyre still a very good team and if you take a step back, cover up the team names and look at the rosters Giants still have a superior squad (on paper of course) to Bison. I agree its great all 10 teams in the league will be difficult to beat. Its also great every team in the league has toughened up. For all the fuss made about Edinboro and Hull beating top teams, they were still games the players looked forward to because they were never in danger of a tough physical game

Just noticed a certain Brad Patterson on the Devils roster. Same birth date as the Brad Patterson played for Panthers a couple of seasons back.

Wilson looking to improve, as Jackson arrives 19th September 2007 Despite a solid start to the new season, which has seen the Mobilx Vipers lose only once in six games, head coach Rob Wilson has stated that he is always looking to improve his team. Today he has boosted his forward lines with the signing of American winger Todd Jackson, who played at the University of Maine with current Viper Colin Shields. Jackson was drafted by the Detroit Redwings in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, and has spent his past two seasons in the ECHL with Toledo Storm and Phoenix Roadrunners. In a combined 111 games, he scored 32 goals and added 52 assists for 84 points. The Cortland, New York native should make his Mobilx Vipers debut this weekend against Belfast on Friday and at home to Coventry on Saturday. Wilson said today: "Despite our good start to the season, I feel we were lacking some extra speed on the wings. Defensively we're very solid, we have one of the top 3 goalies in the League and as a quartet I think our four import defencemen are up there with the best in the country. "I was concerned that we didn't look like scoring enough goals, and watching from the bench for the first two weeks of the season I've thought we needed some extra punch on the top lines. "Todd comes highly recommended, and he played with Colin Shields at the University of Maine. He scored 21 goals in his Senior year, compared to Colin's 18. He is very fast, has good hands and is very useful around the net." Although the Metro Radio Arena-based club already have their full quota of imports, Jackson's signing has been made possible by Petr Kratky's hand injury which has seen the Czech blueliner sidelined for a month. "Under League rules you can have as many imports on your books as you like, but only ten can be registered at any one time. With Petr being injured I've taken the opportunity to have him de-registered to allow us to bring Todd in as our tenth import. www.newcastlevipers.com/news/detail.php?id=1707

With Petr being injured I've taken the opportunity to have him de-registered to allow us to bring Todd in as our tenth import.www.newcastlevipers.com/news/detail.php?id=1707 This doesnt mention whether or not the import cap is in place a la last year when the panthers had all the trouble relating to whether or not we could play ellis twice ie again in sheffield. Does anyone know IF the cap is still in place and what if any teams are left with after only a few weeks into the new season. It seems several teams have moved already to replace/cover injured import players but if the cap does still exist then surely they are using up places that they may need to fill later in the season hence using these replacements is a short term gamble to keep with the league leaders? Anyone got any thoughts on this should it happen to the panthers (and yes i know we have two injuries on the books ALREADY!!) Would panthers fans prefer short term cover or rather think more longer term? BTW If mods think this is the wrong place please do as you please to correct ok...

Shane Johnson finally returns home News posted: 16-10-2007 Coors Belfast Giants Head Coach Ed Courtenay is happy to announce the signing of former Giant All-Star defenceman Shane Johnson. Courtenay said: “We tried to sign Shane twice already this season when defencemen went down with injury and now that his temporary contract is up with Cardiff, I jumped at the chance to sign him. I am happy to have him back on board and I know he is going to make a huge impact on the ice. He will come in right away and strengthen our defence.” www.eliteleague.co.uk/news/detail.php?id=5295

Devils Prpich in October 17-10-2007 The Cardiff Devils are excited to announce the signing of Saskatchewan native Mike Prpich to their forward line up. The 25 year old University of North Dakota graduate is on his way to Wales and will arrive in time to appear for the Welsh outfit on the weekend of October 27th and 28th. Coach Gerad Adams has recruited from where he knows best, his home Canadian province and he has been patient to find the right player. “Mike will combine scoring punch with an aggressive style of play. Every reference we get on Prpich indicates that he can skate, score and that he likes to get involved.” The Devils have conceded 2.85 goals per game so far this season but have noticeably struggled in the goal scoring department by averaging only 2.71 goals per game thus far. The addition of Prpich will have dual benefits acknowledges Devils’ GM Brent Pope. “Mike will bring both speed and depth to the Devils attack. He is a younger player who is looking to make an impact, we need that ingredient, that type of sparkplug in our line up.” says Pope. www.thecardiffdevils.com/Content.asp?Ref=498

Luke Stauffacher aiming for weekend debut News posted: 08-11-2007 Manchester Phoenix have moved to add more goalscoring to their line-up with the signing of American hotshot Luke Stauffacher. Hailing from Sun Prairie in Wisconsin, 26-year old Stauffacher led the Quad City Mallards of the United Hockey League last season with 42 goals and 29 assists for 71 points in 76 appearances. Phoenix player/coach Tony Hand commented, “I’ve felt for a little while that we needed to add some more goalscoring and Luke should fit that bill. He plays with an edge and his record indicates exactly the attributes I’ve been looking to add to the roster. I spoke to Sean Starke about him as well as other references and I’m looking forward to him joining us.” Standing 5ft 8ins and tipping the scales at a little over 170lbs, Luke Stauffacher brings a big game to the table. Speaking from his home in Madison Wisconsin minutes after watching his beloved Green Bay Packers thrash the Kansas City Chiefs, he noted, “my game is all about work ethic and energy and I play that way every shift. I play an aggressive forechecking style and hope to pick up in the goalscoring where I left off last season.” Last season he was a linemate of Phoenix forward Sean Starke and he added, “Starkey and I built up a good understanding of where each of us was on the ice, we had good chemistry and I’m looking forward to playing alongside him again. I’m not the biggest guy in the world, but I work hard and I’m looking forward to getting to Manchester as quickly as possible.” www.manchesterphoenix.co.uk/news/s/974_luke_stauffacher_aiming_for_weekend_debut

Mikko Signs On 09/11/2007 The Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of Finnish defenceman Mikko Purontakanen, who will make his debut for the team in this weekend's matches against Edinburgh Capitals and Manchester Phoenix. The club reacted quickly after they found out, that Canadian blue liner Kyle Peto would be sidelined for four weeks with a broken wrist. Purontakanen flew into Britain on Thursday afternoon, and was introduced to the Bison faithful at that evening's fans forum. The latest Bison signing played last season with current Bison Peto at KalPa Kuopio in the Finnish Elite League, having the previous year played his first hockey outside of his homeland in Italy with Bolzano. Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "Mikko is looked upon as a stay at home guy, but that is playing in very defensive league in Finland. His nine points last season was a good return, he has a big shot and I sure he will do well for us." Purontakanen said: "I am looking forward to the weekend and helping the team out in whatever way I can. I have been told Basingstoke is a great place to play, as it is so friendly and the fans really get behind the team." www.bstokebison.co.uk/news.php?ymid=0711&item=8&option=n
