A thread for the continuing (mis)fortunes of those blokes who used to play on these shores...I see Zack Phillips, now sporting Rip van winkle like hair and beard, has landed a position in DEL3 with Starbulls Rosenheim, joining Curtis Leinweiber who played for Edinburgh from 2012-14, then Dundee a year later. www.starbulls.de/de/aus-zach-wird-zack/

In Norway Brett Perlini is doing well in Norway. He's got 13 points (9+4)) in 12 games so far.
Though doing not so well as coach in the same league is a certain Corey Neilson. His team (Manglerud) is bottom of the league with just 1 win in 12 games I think his only win to this point came in his 2nd game as coach.

Manglerud (effectively a blue collar suburb of Oslo, built in the 60s) is run on a shoestring. Think MK/Billingham but nowhere near as big and classy. I went to a game at Manglerud a couple of new year's ago and thought I was walking into an industrial estate. Which I pretty much was. Their roster isn't a patch on paper to pretty much every other side in the league, and the results are showing it. Finally, they have the worst kit and logo I've ever seen a hockey team have. Elsewhere in that league, Austin Cangelosi has 3+4 in 9, Brendan Ellis has 7 assists in 12 games, while Nick Dineen has 16 points in 12 games.

Sounds like somebody’s finding out what a difference having one of the biggest budgets in the league makes to a coach.

So why go to a tin pot club when he initially did better at a DEL2 club . More fool him

After a decent first year finishing 5th his next 2 seasons were 11th and 12th so hardly in a promising position.

No lose situation I guess. Small club, tiny budget, results can hardly be expected to be stellar. So if they are poor, it’s par for the course. If results are good, his stock as a coach who can perform, rises. Oslo’s a fabulous city for a season or three.

I’d have thought he’d have asked about budgets at the interview… You would think so,it was certainly mentioned when him taking the job was announced so it was known. But like Spence says, when you’ve finished 5th,11th and 12th in your last three seasons then your stock isn’t exactly great. Always said he was over rated and lived on the fact Panthers were a higher budget team than most in the EIHL.

thanks for creating a new thread. I like to keep an eye on player movements (if you know what I mean) so if I see anybody on the move or suddenly get activated or does something remarkable I'll put it in here. Mostly though, once they've left our league it's the Police force or the Fire Service !!

for example, Sandstrom, who played for Steelers in 2019-20 (did he score a hat-trick in Nottingham?) moves on to Czech2

He was very very good at finishing 4th or 5th though I’ll give him that. And as for the Conti Cup,that’s because there was nobody decent in it anymore, even Mikka Wiikman admitted that !

We won a lot under him and it’s sad you obviously hate the guy!

Actual panthers as well, hates them, yes the animal. Overrated. I can continue.... Panther Logistics in Northampton, can't stand them. Gave them a 1 star rating on Google reviews. Black Panther, disagreed with Rotten Tomatoes & IMDB. Gave it 3/10. You see the pattern?

Given that it is for family reasons, I hope he and family are well Corey's joined HK Poprad in Slovakia as head coach, where they've also brought in a couple of new players in the past week or so including Thow's handy-looking former teammate Cole Ully

Neilson's interview with his new team in Slovakia pretty much sums up his Manglerud experience: underfunded after sponsors departure, underskilled for the league and lots of part time players. Neilson: "There are no bad things to say about former clubs. Manglerud got into a difficult position, he was left with several sponsors, so he had to choose according to his abilities. The people at the club and the players I worked with were amazing. I can't say the wrong word about anyone. Despite the fact that the players went to proper work, they always came to practice in the afternoon. It was also not easy for me to wait all day for evening training. Despite the fact that they tried very hard, we lacked skills in the matches. The Norwegian league is a quality league and those who do not have sufficient skills cannot succeed in it. "
