Given that it is for family reasons, I hope he and family are well Corey's joined HK Poprad in Slovakia as head coach, where they've also brought in a couple of new players in the past week or so including Thow's handy-looking former teammate Cole Ully and the family reasons have sorted itself?

Couldn't say But given his words about how great the organisation were to him, maybe it was simply an elegant way for them to release him from his contract in a no harm no foul way that saved them face as well. With sponsors dropping out seemingly at some point after his signing he'd suddenly have been expected to field and coach a much lower level team than even normal for Manglerud. It definitely sounds like he and the organisation had significantly less budget than would have been expected when he signed on. So maybe it was simply a classy way for all concerned to save face and not hold a coach to a job that sounds like it would have been quite different with the even tighter budget restrictions and part time players. Hard to say but he wasn't out of work for long and landed a good job with a team clearly hoping he can replicate some Continental Cup magic again, and turn the team into a more attacking, speedy team.

Course they have. Poprad will probably have a half decent budget ! Lol 🤣

Not technically an Old Boy but Tristan Keck who was joint top goalscorer in the Elite Series (15 goals) is now replicating that form in the DEL2 where he's top goalscorer by some margin (18 goals in 16 games, 21pts). 6 goals ahead of the 2nd place player
Nice to see his career going strong and shows what at great pick up he was out of college for the Blaze

Herr now has 8 goals and 14pts total from 15 games which sees him sitting 13th for goals and 29th for points in the league

Sheffield could take him as injury cover...

The 5 players who have played in the UK in the "modern era" (i.e. last 30 years), who really were on their way up the ladder, as evidenced by them playing in the UK then going on from the UK to make their debut in the NHL. It's my favourite piece of trivia, but given the amount of players who have played over here since the 90s, 5 is not a great number to hang your hat on. A tiny, tiny percentage. Also, two of them were goons at the NHL level, and one was a goalie who only ever played one game. None of them played a ton of games, but there are 5 of them. One is Finnish, and has played at the NIC later in his career too. One was 5 foot 6, and IMHO, one of the best players ever to play in the UK. No more clues. I'm guessing the netminder is Wayne Cowley, one of the more remarkable career arcs playing two games for Blackburn Blackhawks and then two seasons later playing in the show for Edmonton. I can't find any other one game wonders who have gone from the UK to the NHL, although quite a few went the other way.

As you say, a remarkable journey. A further clue us that 2 of the other 4 played for the Bruins. The others for the Caps and the Lightning.

Another one bites the dust in Robins, a promising but troubled minor league career saw him in Belfast, but he turned it around and earned a brief spot on the Bruins roster a couple or so years after. Ulmer was indeed impressive but doesn’t feature here. Brigley is another category. Non lockout ex NHL players who have played in the UK then gone back to play in the NHL again. I think he might be the only one in that list, to be fair. Unless anyone knows any better…?
2 of the other 3 played in the same Storm team. The final one made his NHL debut, for the Caps, at age 31.

After tumbling down a serious EP rabbit hole, the Finn is Janne Niskala, ten games with the Storm early in his career, six games with Tampa Bay and then played at the NIC for Lukko.

First season ticket was the final season of the BISL.

Laing also dropped a clanger too from a shot from Hadden

I was five rows behind you. The good old days. 👍

Great night when we beat them 8-2 at the NIC, disappointed it was never shown in full during lockdown.

Patrice Lefebvre played for Billingham Bombers 1992 - 1993 and was only 5ft 6 went onto play 3 games for Washington Capitols in 1998 - 1999 season. Was a hell of a player and along with Richard Leplante and Antony Payne they made one of the best first lines in the country on one of the leagues lesser teams.

The Caps had a huge injury crisis just prior to Christmas 1998 and scoured the minors for available players to sign on short term contracts, just so they could put a full bench out (Patrik Augusta and Brad Shaw were also signed at this time, briefly). Lefebvre had a stellar career in the (then) IHL, but was always "too small" for the 90s NHL. He went on to play in the DEL, Switzerland, Denmark and finally settled in Italy, where he became a dual national. I saw him playing for Milan in the playoffs about 20 years ago. He is also, IIRC, the highest ever points scorer in the QMJHL.

We both would of loved him to have signed for the Panthers. To have had him playing along side Adey would of been good. We did have Dan Dorian and then Selmar Odelein that year instead. We may have had less imports back then but there were some very good ones on most teams.

We both would of loved him to have signed for the Panthers. To have had him playing along side Adey would of been good. We did have Dan Dorian and then Selmar Odelein that year instead. We may have had less imports back then but there were some very good ones on most teams. That season started with some kind of invitation tournament at Sheffield, us, them, Billingham and others. We went up and watched Lefebvre destroy whoever it was in the first game. Second game, he was announced pre-game as "Number 17, the impressive Patrice Lefebvre". That name stuck with him for us, and he's still called that now. It's on Youtube, amazingly. I'll put an end to it with this article. thewaffleboard.wordpress.com/2013/07/09/from-the-uk-to-the-nhl/The missing final member of the Five is Doug Doull. He was well 'ard. There are another few players who are also worth a mention. Jon Landry (ex Clan) got himself a 2 way contract or two on leaving the UK (Islanders, Wild and the Caps) but never got the call. He spent all of 5 (and most of one other) seasons in the AHL after leaving the Clan, having had 2 games at that level pre-Clan. Ex ISL Bee Eric Bertrand went back to NA after the Bees, signed a 2 way with the Avalanche (scoring 59 points for Hershey in the A) and was actually called up by the Avs at least once that season, but never played a game. This was back in the day when the Hockey News (not the internet) told you everything. Incredibly he's still playing in the LNAH at 46! Briefly ex Viper Eric Beaudoin went on from Newcastle to play in the Finnish, German, Swedish and Swiss Elite leagues the whole rest of his career. If anyone fancies a Christmas activity, name a player who has played in the UK the next season after playing at least one game in the NHL. (Non-lockout, to make it harder...) Someone like this guy, for example, who even played an NHL playoff game the season before signing with the Storm. www.eliteprospects.com/player/69020/kevin-brown
