Excellent result, I'm sure there are still some hangovers still being experienced, and you won't really care! Look forward to watching the recording of the game later today.

Absolutely stunning result. Awesome. Congrats. Thanks Nemisis. There are some very gracious sentiments on Steeltalk, the Inferno etc which is great to see. I hope we would be as gracious if the boot was on the other foot. No, I wouldn't 🤣🤣🤣

No, I wouldn't 🤣🤣🤣 I don't think I'd be either....I'm going to be honest, when Cardiff were 2-0 up against the Czech team, a huge part of me didn't want them to win as I wanted my club to do it first.

it can only be good for the elite league if all the teams can win a few games Cardiff included, hope they win tonight. Last night was something very special long may it last. Well done Corey and the TEAM.

Well it is now Monday after the game and oh boy what a game and I have just regained my energy. Here is my memories of it. Beginning with the security - staff did a fantastic job ^_^ so good on the NIC for beefing that up in reaction to the terrible events in Manchester.
When inside me and dad was greeted by a Bern fan who didn't know much english but we got the gist with him saying we didn't have a chance. Oh boy was he wrong.
1st Period - Very good effort from Panthers keeping it close and nothing we could do about Bern's goals they aren't the double Swiss champions for nothing. first goal just lost the guy at the back post and he made no mistake. Second goal maybe could have been closer but still well taken goal.
0-2 down I had faith we could do it and boy what a 2nd Period.
2nd - What can I say about about Monshantev, he was brilliant and we began to roar. first goal was sheer delight to see a little Russian hockey with that backhand flick. super skill. then the second was sheer skill and classic Panthers from the grand slam team, all did really well and reminded me of the Ling Graham line. tic tac goal 2-2. Bern were rattled and Panthers fans roared once again all the energy was flowing into the boys.
2-2 after two and another shut out period from Garnett will be a great goalie for us come the league.
final period - this was the turning point of the match. Panthers kill a overlapping Bern pp and what a roar from the fans. Jeff Brown you superstar down by the half boards in our zone, then slipping his way through a size of a gate and then going coast to coast and what a shot under the bar no goalie would of stopped that it was past him in milliseconds. that was one for the highlight reel right there and the noise was deafening. Panthers fans couldn't believe this was happening, I couldn't believe it either that the impossible became possible was on then Lacho put the puck in the empty net it was surreal everyone behind me was in tears of joy and even I was out of energy.
The downside of the game however wasn't the referee's for once has they let things play which is how Hockey should be played. but what a shambles the linesmen were. They were calling Icings even before the puck went past the goal line and called icing when we got to the puck first. Panthers were never offside during 3 on 2 breaks and so on. poor in that department.
Overall what a fantastic night for all involved though it was a little worrying hearing after the game that the Swiss Police informed our force that half the Bern fans have been banned from home games.
Beating the 7th seeds to boot was something special to see. This ranks perhaps second behind the grand slam season in my opinion.
And last night with Cardiff coming up with a win against the legends of HC Davos in OT when they were denied in regulation win was a great way to end a magical weekend. We might not like the Devils when it comes to domestic action one thing is certain when it comes to International competition we all CAN and WILL stand side by side and be be proud of both teams to fly the British Hockey flag.
Not bad for some British blokes someone tweeted after the game.

As in regardless of players once it's gone the distance thats it?

I believe the IIHF now use hybrid icing too, seems to be that way in the rule book anyway (rule book PDF, page 47). So would assume that's what we were using on Saturday. Of course in that case, things like getting to the puck first are irrelevant really, as it's all about the linesman deciding at some point before that who will get there first. Stuff like that probably doesn't always look the same from the ice as it does the stands. The offsides, I'm sure we've all seen stuff we've sworn blind is on/off, but then it isn't when we watch the replay (unpleasant memory of Steve's Mum scoring a goal in a playoff final springs to mind, although they probably doctored the tape in that case), so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks Bagheera for the kind comment.
as for your question, I'm not truly sure of the answer however since it was a European game and sanctioned by the IIHF which is the governing body of the sport, I would assume the Hybrid Icing would be in effect as it is in the Worlds or NHL for example. It's possibly be a grey line. I mean Panthers clearly got to the puck first and yet the linesman made the wrong call and you could see it in the panthers frustrations on the night.
You thoughts are most welcome or anyone wish to add to this then please feel free ^_^

If you and Yotes are correct, as I suspect you probably are then there was some terrible calls. I asumed it must be the other rule essentialy for the reasons you talk about.

Rick Strachan gave an interview, in which there are some good comments from him. As it seems its unlikely to be published by CHL, I thought some might like to view it. Of course he is looking forward to Elite League fixtures, but also more European adventure.

Yeah I agree about the security for this one, after hearing about some of The Been Fans that were coming, I must admit that I was concerned but everything turned out fine.
Say what you want regarding all the games against the same teams all the time, at least there wasn't the need for segregating the fans, to have to bring in sniffer dogs and for an entire block to be cordoned off with Security on every row.
I like European Competitions but that is the one negative thing about it and its not something I want creeping into our game

I like European Competitions but that is the one negative thing about it and its not something I want creeping into our game There is a nasty underbelly to European hockey that - thankfully! - we simply don't have over here. At the World Championships in Slovenia about 9-10 years ago, us GB fans were amazed to see a load of armed police separating two groups of Slovenian fans - like with the Bern fans on Saturday night, a whole line of 'em going up the steps between the two groups. Apparently they were from two rival clubs - most of them had club jerseys and flags instead of national team stuff - and they absolutely hated each other. So there were 30+ coppers over the other side of the arena... I think we had 2 with us!

I like European Competitions but that is the one negative thing about it and its not something I want creeping into our game The security did a very good job though. The fans in question are known hooligans in Switzerland, there'd be no way the arena would allow them in without taking measures to prevent violence. Those are 'fans' who go to games wanting to intimidate the other fans, they don't care what they do. Without the segregation, when we scored our 4th, if we were next to their fans and in an act of revenge so to speak, someone turned and celebrated in the faces of a group of the Bern hooligans, the odds are probably quite high that a fight would break out and it would be chaos. The sniffer dog could've been searching for explosives, the Bern hooligans love their red flares and flares are classed in the same group as explosives. Either that or the arena took further preventative measures to stop people bringing their cheese sandwiches in. I believe most of the Bern supporters, those associated with their three hooligan groups, were escorted back to their coaches after the game, no discussion. According to one of the senior stewards at the game, the Police that were in the Arena were from the Dog Section (Hence the all black, no high vis) so not your average beat officer, the Police Dogs were in the carpark at the back of the arena ready for when the Bern fans were to be escorted to their coach. There were representatives from the Swiss Authorities too but in plain clothes. I saw maybe 10 other Bern fans after the game, few in Saltbox, few in The Legend, they were very friendly. It was weird seeing such measures taken but with a lot of those within the travelling support being known to Swiss Authorities for causing trouble, there was no option but to put the measures in place.

Not sure whether this has been covered, the second goal is in the top three CHL of the week, with Delago, Phillips and Alex M or apparently know as Sasha
