Disappointing to see him go, he's done a brilliant job on D, very reliable and fits on without a fuss, good luck to him though!

Disappointed. I think he really think he proved his worth at the end of last season. He had to play regular because of injuries and did a solid job. Do wonder if there is a slight hockey decision in there too. Maybe by dropping down he can get more ice time and maybe even earn more too.
Sad to see him go. Good Luck Sam.
Do we now go out and find another young Brit to be 7th D or maybe even go back for Tom Norton? Think it'll be a younger guy if we do. Norton is probably also looking to play more hockey at this point of his career.

Depends what course in life he really wants to take. if he can't commit and give his all then he's right to make way for his sake as well as ours. Sad if true tho' because the guy has come on leaps and bounds. Best of luck to him. No news on Stevie Lee either leaves us abit short on the Brit front

Damn... that's bad news for the Panthers (wonder if he'll want to play for the Lions? ). This makes the return of Steve Lee from injury all the more important - even with Lee, that's us down to 5 D-men. Getting a replacement is going to be very hard, but could be crucial...

What is this Panthers lark lately.....is it a serious job or bloody play school ! We might as well not bother with contracts etc,may as well just tell guys to do as they please, just play for us til something better comes along and hey don't worry about leaving us short,we will wish you well whatever you do.
Not happy with this or the timing of it at all, especially having lost Myers for this season and Stevie Lee seemingly very injury prone theses days !
# where's Ben Davies ?

Gutted he's left, I thought he was coming on well, deserving more and more ice time and he was one of my favourite brits but best of luck to him. I'm hoping we'll go out and bring in a young British D man as 7th D.

What can the Panthers do about it? It's the nature of the game over here... it happens to us, it happens to other teams. Changing that would be a mammoth task - possibly even an impossible one. Not happy about it, but hey - stuff happens. Ex Cardiff and Braehead Ben Davies? Swindon Wildcats... and anyway, he's a forward not a D-man.

I'm hoping we'll go out and bring in a young British D man as 7th D. So do I... but we'll need a 6th D-man first... (we're down to 5 now).

But if that's the case then we do need to bring someone up. That's assuming somebody wants to come up. It's a here we go again syndrome, bring a young kid up who has to be babysat by an import. We have seen it before and it affects how the import Dman plays. They should get on the phone to Weaver, offer him as much money as Telford and tell him just turn up on match days. That would be a damn sight better than a young virtual unknown from the EPL. That's why I said what's a Brit forward like Davies doing, because Lindhagen is going to end up on D.

He's listed on the Panthers website as a forward, but you're not far wrong... according to the initial press release, he's a two-way player. So looks like he'll be on the blueline next weekend... <Link to Lindhagen signing announcement>

Lindhagen is a dman, he's only been playing forward at times this season as we've not had our full compliment of forwards, we've now got 6 d and 12 forwards.
Oakford as 7th dman was perfect though because if another dman is injured he slots straight in for that man or if a forward is injured, Lindhagen can move up and Oakford slots in for him, it's pretty vital that we get someone to replace Oakford I feel, but who?

Its poor from Oakford for me. He should realise and prepare for how much work his teaching course will take it seems a bit naive that he thinks he could just do both knowing how much was involved after all he has signed up for professional ice hockey team not a part time outfit. It now puts us in the lurch as we could have found an alternative much earlier in the summer. its going to be a lot more difficult now.

Surely in this case he should/would not bother with any other team. However minor to the Panthers?

It's looking like a big mistake letting Swindlehurst go, I really rated him and was disappointed at the time. I suspect he's off to `Guildford, they lost a few Brits over the summer and are really struggling.
It'll be interesting over the summer if the KHL team get up and running as they have to have a minimum of 5 UK players, I'd imagine they'll snap up the best Brits in the Elite League.

It's going to be very difficult to replace him, especially at this stage of the season. In the EPL Brit guys are generally happy playing part time, earning a decent few quid, playing plenty of minutes and also making a living from working full time too. They know that they will always get limited ice time in the EIHL and as a Brit 7th Dman will not get paid anywhere near enough at Panthers to warrant giving up what they've got. I am struggling to think of another EIHL team who has lost more than the odd Brit in the last few years. Where as we have lost Levers,Richardson,Woolhouse,Meyers,Norton,Myers,Boxill,Swindlehurst and Oakford, not to mention two or three other young Brits who seem to have suddenly vanished from view !

Add Josh Ward to that list went off to become an airline pilot . Odd given how much weight Corey places on the Brits and how much energy he invests in their development

It now puts us in the lurch as we could have found an alternative much earlier in the summer. its going to be a lot more difficult now. Perhaps he didn't realise how intense the work would be? Our Uni Deal players are doing their Masters and playing at the same time, he may have expected this to be on similar lines. It'd have been difficult even if he left in the summer. Not enough good quality British defencemen out there so we'd have likely ended up with a EPL'er who'd be 2 steps behind and not match fit. At least if we sign an EPL'er now they'll be match fit, probably still 2 steps behind but playing as 7th D would allow for them to get up to speed. I'm sad to see him go, not annoyed as life decisions are bigger than hockey. We're in a difficult spot but we've got 6 defencemen once Lee is back, on par with most other teams so it'll just mean that our imports get a few extra minutes each game until we find a suitable replacement. One man doesn't make a team, we've got to adapt and overcome these road bumps if we want to remain competitors and I wouldn't doubt us for one second, even with this news anyway.
