Looking at the respective runs in Yotes,we have got no chance of winning it now. Braeheads run in should be a doddle,Sheffields is the next easiest,Cardiffs looks tougher, whilst Belfast and Panthers have real tough run ins.
Thanks to management apathy, the horse has well and truly bolted in the last month I'm afraid !

Until we have no mathematical chance of winning the league I'll still believe we can win the league. Yes we're out of form and have a few players that have gone missing but bad runs end, something can snap this poor form abd we could get on a run and if we do get on a run we'll be taking points from the teams above us. That's my stance.

In a sense Yotes yes. Even though I accept the reality may be different any team & it's fans who have aspirations to win titles and trophy's should have that level of expectation & desire. Otherwise the only item adorning our trophy cabinet at the end of the season will be a framed, highly polished, picture of G.M's Great Aunt Maud There's a sense of apathy at Management level which, whilst not intended as a personal slant on your good self in my previous post, I felt was reflected in your comment in saying "It's hardly the first (or last) time we've lost in Cardiff is it?". The emphasis being on 'or last'. It's as if our level of expectancy as supporters should be a decent run to get our hopes up, only for them to be shattered due to mismanagement of injuries and replacements. As many on here pointed out months ago at the start of the season Peckham was not replaced, we started an import short (intended as stated by Corey) which together with the lack of adequate cover for injuries has now seemingly defined the rest of our season as 'also rans' in as far as the title is concerned. Granted we appeared to have put in a decent effort tonight & my beef is not with the players as such. The D are having to put in extra shifts leading to tiredness & errors, Mosey has been our best player for weeks & skates his socks off. I would imagine they are as equally frustrated when they see other sides bringing in cover or even strengthening on what they have already. That said as noble as they are in trying & as much as we love them for it, "playing reasonably well with a few mistakes" is not going to reap much reward other than a pat on the back for effort & I feel for them because they deserve better support from above in giving us the best chance of winning some silverware. In many ways I agree Gawd and it's a good post, I just think we need to temper our expectations to the game we're playing. If we'd just lost away to Edinburgh (again) or Coventry (again) or Dundee (again) or Fife (again) I'd be pretty steamed, but while I wanted to win tonight, I knew it was always one that could've gone either way and it did, and reports suggest we didn't fail to show up, so should this really be the straw that breaks the camel's back? Now if we lose tomorrow... I probably am pretty apathetic about it though, early promise seemingly going to pot, seen it all before. Agreed on the camel Yotes, though the current situation has certainly given some fans the hump I'm trying to keep a balanced view of things but I feel the results are being determined more so by events off the ice than on it, in spite of having a decent side before us. It was only a few weeks ago that we beat Cardiff comprehensively in the BBT & were top of the table.
I just think that for an organisation with our resources and (ever increasing) fan base we are underachieving in all things, on and off the ice, & the whole product could be so much better. I've been a fan & ST holder for 3 years now & I have great respect for those on here who have been around for longer & who are more qualified than me to comment (I've been reading & soaking up all your wisdom since signing up lol). Though I sometimes sense (with respect to all) that expectations of many long term fans has been unwittingly 'dumbed down' over time by the apathy at the top. Yes there have been trophy's in recent times but only 1 title & that is a poor return for a club of this pedigree.
Next up Fife, should be an interesting atmosphere if we gift them a lead too as we have done all too often this season

Sorry, but we were poor tonight. We lacked confidence on the ice. When did you see our guys have the confidence to keep the puck and go any distance with it? All too often hurried passes went astray and the Devils took control of the game. As others have said, we need a sniper up front and a good solid d man at the back. And one or two of our guys need to take a look at the game video and analyse their performance, because some are just not playing well enough.
But they are the team I support and I won't give up on them!

Yes we lost tonight, but it was down to our own mistakes, once again, on another night, we would have won comfortably. I can't believe how many top players we have in our team but unfortunately they're not being allowed to play in the way they want. We have insanely good forwards but they're always having to put in extra shifts / 110% effort to get close to a goal because we're always behind in a game. Our d-men are tired because they're being asked to play for much longer shifts than they're used too.
I don't know other teams injury situations but those teams seem to have 7-8 D-man ready to play and never allow their self to be in a position to be an import down, where as we seem to do it far too much and management don't seem to care because our current imports are "getting back to fitness!" and there are still "good seats available". I don't think I've seen an attendance so low at a Panthers game for over 15~ games now but Fife is looking to be a low one! Does our GM not realise that a winning team = more tickets sold? He's laughing in our faces because he knows regardless if we win or lose that there are 5000~ loyal fans who attend every game.
Fife looks like an "easy" game tomorrow but if we lose, the league is over and I'm not sure we'll even end up in the playoffs haha.

Not ready to give up after a loss it the BBT. That place is and has been the hardest place in league to pick up points for many years. At the start of any season I would guess most would be happy with a 50/50 points split with Cardiff because of this. O.k so we have traded an away win each with them this year but we can still split the points. The problem is our poor form put us in a position where we felt we had to get points in this game just to keep pace. The losses at home are the biggest concern. Everybody has been dropping points to every team up to now so you can even afford a loss to cross conference opponents this year. The reality is this is where we won the league 3 years ago. Fairly sure we were still around .500 hockey in our conference but not far off sweeping all cross conference games.
Our form is,& has been poor which now means we have to win a lot more of the tougher games(obviously winning against your nearest rivals has a bigger effect on the standings). Our run in is tough and thus unlikley we can put the wins together needed to challenge back at the top. However if we can get on a good run we will soon be back in the mix because of who our games are against.
Basically what Sheffield are doing......AGAIN. Never ever write them off. Seen this from them too many times.
Still plenty of time to get a run together and win it. However it's more hope than belief now!

Frustrating is the emotion from that game. Their 2nd and 3rd goals come from errors and they capitalise. I felt we deserved at least overtime but that's the game. I don't see us winning the league this year now.
It's bizarre to me. There is not 1 player from this squad I would axe. Normally like last year there's players you want rid of (Berube, Schmidt (although thank god he stayed), and players like Henley from the year before. Every player from this years side brings something and I firmly believe that a fully fit version of this squad is arguably the best team in the league. Not replacing the likes of Waugh and Schultz when they went off long-term and Wiikman for about a month, is what has cost us. I feel for Corey because if we don't win a trophy this year I feel he'll be out the door and I don't think it's necessarily down to him, more the management hoping to "wing it".

It would actually be nice to see Mr Black at a game watching his ailing team for once. Don't suppose he will be there tomorrow though because his beloved Spurs are playing in the FA cup. Is it by any chance going to be a blue moon tomorrow ! I thought you were all seeing as regards the Panthers - if you were then you would know that Mr Black DOES attend a number of games, and sits in his usual place amongst the fans, and he dresses like any normal fan so does not stand out in the crowd. - Maybe you are expecting him to arrive in a Rolls or Bentley, have the Red Carpet laid out and sit in an Executive Box and be waited on hand and foot, after all this is his Golden Egg - so sorry to disappoint you

Oh I know he comes to the odd game and he sits in block 16 several rows behind our bench. The problem is,he doesn't watch his team anywhere near often enough and of course when he does, they know it from players to GM so maximum stops are pulled out for the night.
What he needs to do,is sneak in late for face off,sit somewhere else and not tell anybody he's coming, not even GM. That way he might just get to see the real picture.
As for the Rolls Royce err nope......that would cost money !

The most telling part for me was at the beginning of the game when the cardiff commentators were absolutely stoked that they had been playing in front of 2000+ plus fans all season.

We have way more than double the average attendance of Cardiff yet they manage to spend probably as much as we do on putting a team together and carry a spare!

Very true FS i clocked that too.
When you look at it like that,2000 fans v 5600 fans it should be no contest IF each team spent in relation to income. At say £12 average per ticket, that would give Cardiff only £24,000 per game against Panthers £67,200 so even allowing for Panthers higher arena costs,it doesn't take a genius to see which fans are being taken for a ride does it.
Panthers management taking the mickey doesn't even come close !

The arena isn't even that expensive it's definitely <10k per game so I would say probably 6k at a guess

Same in our fan base. Also, I'm not sure any of you know for definite that CN has been turned down for players, unless he's told you himself of course. NB takes a lot of stick but where would you have been if he hadn't come riding in all those years ago, you have a lot to be thankful for imo.

Well I know someone who tried to hire the arena out for a day for a business event and it was £12k and that with the I've covered etc, panthers only need it for about 4/5 hours maximum and will get a good deal as they are there all the time, so I don't think I am far off to be honest

IIRC, in an article written by Dave Simms, pre season, about the EIHL in general, quote " Goaltending improved, teams now with 5 or 6 strong import D men (except Nottingham - this will cost them) plus 3/4 lines of quality forwards ". I hate to admit it but this looks as though it could be the case.
If money/budget really is a problem, then Lacho should have been released a couple of months ago to allow cover/extra D to have been brought in. Only problem with that is GM would have to find something other than "it's Bobby from Beeston" to shout.

The arena is £14k per game,so even if Cardiff paid nothing for theirs, that would still leave Panthers some £28k per game better off than Cardiff. Panthers fans are being royally shafted big time !
As for Lacho,he's doing nothing this season, yet he was the one who cost us an import slot to start with. He wanted to go to Europe,Corey was resigned to losing him so signed Swindlehurst, but by mid summer Lacho hadn't got any offers so sprung a previous contract clause meaning Panthers had to re sign him. That meant we had one Brit too many......hence that's why Mr Black said we go an import short then.
Stupidity by both owner,GM and coach in my book !!!!!

Spend all that extra 28K on a team that is way better than anybody else so the league is over by Christmas every year? How many years before you haven't got a league to play in anymore? Remember, we did this, and whilst we won trophies the rest of the league suffered quite badly. Your team budget is as good as any other top teams in the league, I fail to see how you can continually keep blaming NB. He doesn't sign the players, he doesn't set the tactics etc. This is all Nielson's domain. Surely by now you might have realised that he just isn't up to putting a team together to win league titles. Great at knockout competitions etc but not the marathon of the league. You've even said yourself the year you won the league wasn't down to Nielson but more down to the "leaders" on that team. There is your problem, not NB. But you keep bringing CN back, to ultimately fail again.

Hopefully Corey departs in the off season & we get to see what a different coaching team can do with the same budget. I think if we knew as fans why we haven't replaced a D man when clearly one is needed we would be less ruffled right now. The info out of the club is dire.

Genuine question. Most games Panthers have more on the bench than their opponents. Why are you complaining they are short of bodies? Steelers (and Panthers) went for years with 15 skaters, 10 forwards and 5 defenders, with the odd young British kid getting an occasional shift. Steeler's defence for many years until two seasons ago was 4 imports and Thomas. The game today is no harder, in fact it's easier, being much less physical, so, why the need for more players?

Balance. When someone decided it was a good idea to become a GB development team at the expense of available import places that left us short in some very important positions. You don't need bums on the bench, you need good bums.
