Next time I'm in the Hull area I'll have to pick up some chip spice, for old times sake.

Yes, but a team has to increase it's fanbase and I think Manchester will have far more chance of doing that than Hull have done over the last few years. Course, but Storm have a smaller capacity building to use, and a potential fanbase that is already split. It's hardly a great start. Phoenix playing out of Alti didn't work in the Elite League, so why does it work now? I'm not saying hockey was viable in Hull, appears it wasn't, but there seems to be a degree of celebration about the return of a franchise that's already failed, and one we've given the same problems to, straight off the bat, as the one that just went kaput.

The guys company owning the rink makes a HUGE difference.

That'd depend on the figures. How much did Phoenix EIHL pay in rent, what's the saving? Tootoo said on the other thread they own Bison & their rink, were they the owners when Bison did a runner from the Elite League?
We've also put that Wayne Scholes chap's nose out of joint I'd assume, he might be all hot air (I dunno), or he might be someone like Neil Black you'd want involved in your league. Can't see that happening now.
I hope it works out, but someone said "more questions than answers" yesterday, and I think they were very much correct.

Bison was a bit of a different situation, they were in trouble due to their previous owner, who ran up large debts. Planet Ice took them over reluctantly when that owner did a runner/ran out of money. At the time they had no intention of running the team, there was no other potential owners so they ran them on a shoestring. To reduce costs, they moved them down to the EPL and they now appear to be doing much better. When I went last season, the crowds looked very healthy.
Phoenix paid £2,200 a week for ice, this increased by £500 for a mid week game and £1,500 for a Saturday game. They were offered a reduction to £1,800 a week (regardless of mid week or Saturday games) but turned this down.

We will see in the fullness of time but I think they look solid at this point and the Phoenix look like they are on very shakey ground with every game being an away game pretty much like the Vipers when they moved to WB.

They were offered a reduction to £1,800 a week (regardless of mid week or Saturday games) but turned this down. Why would they turn a reduction down? I've no idea! There was a condition in the offer that it would increase by 5% next year and again the year after. To me, this suggests that this was a (minimum) 3 year agreement. My guess (and it's only a guess) is that Phoenix didn't want to get tied down to a long term deal because they want to move to their own arena sooner rather than later. I could be wrong though, and there may have been other conditions that Phoenix didn't agree too. Silverblades didn't offer another ice time deal. It remains to be seen whether a new temporary (and later on permanent) city centre rink ever happens. When they initially announced their plans, it was going to be their rink this year. Then a short while later it was 80% certain to be built before the season, now it sounds as though they won't start the season in it. They've said wherever they start the season will be the same place as they end it, so it looks like a season at Deeside awaits.

Maybe just a bit off the wall with this one but here goes. What about the Blackburn Rink it's a good size and a decent ice pad. Might upset the Hawks I suppose?

Not sure about the name but I'm glad they've got some hockey next year in Hull.

It never pleaded poverty (as far as I know) but the current arena there just wasn't paying it's way and the bigger FAR more versatile venue has been planned for quite a while. If an arena was going to be subsidized then it needed to be a venue that benefits the whole city. No matter how versatile they try to call the present place it's just a glorified rink as far as a venue is concerned.
