Sounds like the boat is really being rocked in Cardiff. Not sure how the outcome of this one is going to work out and if they upset the council and planet ice they could have no home. PR needs to sort things out quick before the fans loose patients or there will be nothing to play for.

I, probably like many people on this forum, take absolutelly no delight in hearing the problems of the Steelers and this time the Devils - once again it is the genuine fans and staff that will suffer along with the small businesses that supply them - whilst the people that really should be brought to account get away scott free to made a bundle out of the mess - Ragan sueing Cardiff council, if he wins who will benefit (answers on a postcard please) _ sorry Sheffield fans YOU DO DESERVE BETTER

Oh, what a surprise... Paul Ragan is attempting to deflect attention away from his own failings by blaming someone else... and issuing threats - again. Can't afford to spend as much as you thought? - start ranting about a wage cap, blame absolutely everybody else for overspending, and threaten to withdraw your teams from the league. Not getting as much money in as expected? - blame the council, threaten legal action, and lay the blame for a cost-cutting idea (cancelling the 'Festival Of Hockey') at someone else's door. PR must think he's made of teflon...

Is this the same Mr Ragan who, a couple of weeks ago, said he wouldn't honour Rob Globkes two year contract, stating it was "a deal done under a different ownership" so it could be null and voided without a problem.
I wonder what he would do if the players signed so far for next season all walked away stating that, they can as "their current deals were signed under different ownership".
Now wouldn't that be just brilliant if they did !

Someone's just made an interesting point on THF... [a href="What I dont get is when PR bought the steelers, there was a lot of unrest within the cardiff fan base. So much so, that PR was questioned by Brent Pope (I think) during a game at the Big Blue Tent. He stated the Cardiff Devils was running well and even thou they havent made any money this season, they have just about broke even and he expected to make a small profit next season. After the last 2 days, I have qusetioned myself and asked other people who were with me at that time, if I had heard right. So was PR telling the cardiff fans the truth or just spining a line to calm the unrest within the fan base!!!!! During the 2nd part of the season most games were very well attended and I believe a few sell outs as well....so what went wrong???"]What I dont get is when PR bought the steelers, there was a lot of unrest within the cardiff fan base. Yet now he's saying that Cardiff lost £600k over the past 3 years... does that really sound plausible if you believe the statement above? Or - vice versa. When was he telling the truth - if at all?

PR needs to sort things out quick before the fans loose patients or there will be nothing to play for. Not only does this apply to Cardiff with the potential of having no home...but they could have the same problem at Sheffield The arena is owned by Sheffield City Trust, an independent charity, and managed under contract by the US media giant Live Nation UK. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_City_Trusten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_International_VenuesI believe there is some link to Sheffield City Council...correct me if I am wrong... This is a sad state for ice hockey to be in and I am worried for the long term future of it

Funny because if you owe billions you can get the government to give you our money. If you just owe thousands you and your creditors are screwed. Well, you picked capitalism, you're stuck with it.

If you had a bigger rink, you would have had more gate receipts hence more income. I'm assuming he means that this loss of extra attendance = £600k over 3 years. Not that the Devils have ran at a loss of £600k over the past 3 years.

From what I can see only the creditors are getting screwed, not Fagin, mind you to link what he did to the bank collapse is stretching reality just a tad.
When in Yorkshire do what Ken Bates did is the new motto

Only kind of business owners who do this to people and the businesses they owe money to KNOWING they will carry on under a different banner are the lowest of the low A calculated way of dropping others in the poo poo whilst looking after yourself I say again lowest of the low I would say eactly the same if Panthers or one of our local sports teams did it Unacceptable for the teams to carry on as though nothing happened (The point someon made about season ticket money cant be ring-fenced - yes that money will be lost but th clubs will allow the season ticket holders who paid to attend anyway- they will have saved far more money from all the other debts they are writing off)

Certainly not being left to go under or icing a depleted team and getting beat by 8 goals every night (ala Newcastle and Edinburgh). Now that IS punishment. What Ragan has done (and others before him) is totally and utterly immoral and if not suitably dealt with, will spell the end for the EIHL. By all accounts though, even the EIHL have done it. It all beggars belief. p.s. And people wonder why the EIHL has no main sponsor....

If you want to get an inside look at how some of the cardiff players, follow Tylor Michel on twitter (@tmich16) - he's ripped into Simmsey over the matter. Simmsey's really riled him up by mocking the league Michel's gone to. Could be intresting to follow

Here's a thought...
I wonder if the Belfast Giants are looking at this whole situation very closely. Why? Because if money is going to be so tight for the Steelers, they are surely going to have to cut out some 'non-essential' expensive spends... like competing in the Continental Cup. If they don't go, then the baton would be passed to the team that came 2nd in the league - oh wait, that's Cardiff... same owner, same problems. So the 3rd-placed team would be next in line... and that's Belfast.
Could be that the Giants fans get a nice little trip to Europe next season.
(And I'm sure there are those who would say "The Panthers won the Play-Offs, shouldn't that mean we get to go to Europe?". Errrr... no. AFAIK - and I stand to be corrected by anyone who knows better - the only criterion for selecting the team to take part is league standing. We ended up 4th, so Belfast would get first dibs... if Sheffield decline. Tough titties for us, we'll just have to make sure we qualify for the 2012-23 Continental Cup).

Tyler is arguing with a guy called Mark Small. He should save his breath. Mark Small seems to be an immature, illiterate moron.
Looks like Simms had a bit of a hissy fit on Stalintalk after HL called him out.

I hope the mods dont mind me putting this on as a seperate thread, but bertmonkeys comment on THF had me smiling, because I think he has the nail on the head re his club the Steelers:
Another shambolic Steeler's off season, I can't even be bothered to be embarrassed this time!
