What a disgrace. The saviour of ice hockey in the UK does this. Once again the Sheffield Steelers organisation screw local companies. Stop hiding Simms - lets have your comments - your very quiet Throw both of them out of the league - let Ragan take them to the EPL. HL We both know thats not going to happen Paul, in fact its deja-vu. Anyone offering odds on the same in around 52 weeks time?

Probably true, but do you think this kind of thing should happen again and again and again with no punishment? Cardiff are new to scenario but Sheffield now seem to use it as common business practice, something has got to be put in place to make this shady practice less attractive. In the end it's the credibility of the sport as a whole that suffers, not just serial offenders.

Flipside of the coin, your season ticket in the EPL (as per PR's threats) would be like the Greek economy.

Well, I wasn't confining it simply to Sheffield... but hey - Darren Brown, Norton "Mr Unpopular" Lea... the Steelers just lurch from one disaster to another. Ho hum... I remember saying when Paul Ragan bought the Steelers (and all up there were ecstatically predicting a glowing future for themselves) that there'd be a better-than-even chance they'd be lookng at new ownership again within 2 years. Maybe I gave them too much time...? Wrong Shaggy!! As selective as ever with your opinions I see. There is a (quite large) number of fans who saw him as being less than a provider of a "glowing future". Read the posts at the time on Steeltalk AND the Cage from Steeler's fans. Very odd. Not disputing that I typed " all up there" - I quite obviously did - but what I was thinking was " many up there". Very strange... I must have had some kind of brain spasm! ;D Despite what you may think, Doug, I am neither stupid enough nor biased enough to think that absolutely everyone in Sheffield was ecstatic about Paul Ragan... hell, I even remember the very post you quoted! The point still stands, however... we keep getting gobby Sheffield types bigging their club up at every opportunity... and we keep getting rubbish like this happening. Would seem like poetic justice, were it not for the fact that it punishes the innocent as well as the guilty. Ragan would have his toys outta the pram with that one. Guarantee he'd be threatening to take em to the EPL within seconds. Let him - the EPL aren't dumb enough to take him. Not being funny here but your season would be a lot poorer without the Devils and the Sqeelers. I happen to agree... we'd be poorer without the teams on the ice and some of the fans. The incompetence, double-dealing, arrogance and outright hatred that comes as baggage... that we could do without.

Post of the off season. Bang on Ragan would have his toys outta the pram with that one. Guarantee he'd be threatening to take em to the EPL within seconds. Who says the EPL would have them? I think it very unlikely either would be welcomed with open arms.

No rules = no recourse If simple rules were put in place eg, all clubs assets must be held by one limited company, they wouldn't be able to drop the debt. They'd have to put the club up for sale at a knock down price. Then someone (neil Black) could buy the club and manage it correctly. PS: has simmsey walked out again yet?

Can't see how a rink announcer and third rate Sky presenter would have any input into any consultation meeting.

He has been ironically at the fixtures meeting yesterday and today at least that was what he posted, as for Ragan maybe he follows the Ken Bates business model! A league without these two would be a poorer league but not a disaster just more trips to Scotland

Looks like they have been trying all kinds to cut costs, with this latest little gem from the Star: Offshore Payment PlansOne thing that does go to show, (Jester, are you listening), is that tax is payable on the players wages.

Can I just re-iterate that actions and events like this are responsible for more fans losing interest than any poor results, boring play etc. I honestly believe that this will signal the end. Maybe not immediately but I cannot imagine another buyer on the horizon once Ragan has become bored with it! Crowds were bound to drop anyhow with the price rises but, we'll see. Happy days!

Serious question here, I'm not having a dig or point scoring Doug. Have the Steelers ever had what you would consider a decent owner? I remember George Dodds being, as far as I'm aware, decent. Looking back I think he, after financing Steelers for a few years, actually made some good profits for a couple of years. In the mid 90's the crowds were tremendous and weren't made up of freebies as there was by then no need. He must have seen the writing on the wall and spent more time in his villa near Altea, Spain and seeemed to lose interest. We then attracted the one and only Darren Brown. His financial dealings were legendary with tales of carrier bags containing players wages being brought to the arena to ensure they turned out onto the ice, this definitely happened as told to me by a player the week after! It's been downhill ever since! Unfortunately we are close to the crash barriers, too close!

Unfortunately we are close to the crash barriers, too close! I dont reckon its the viable proposition everyone thinks it is. If it was the surely the one constant through the years (DS) would have put his hand in his pocket, alone or with some consortium, even our very own NB hasn't shown in interest in the numerous times its gone to the wall. That must say something ;o)

The old Yorkshire adage is "Drink all, eat all, pay nowt"
Perhaps the "pay nowt" bit should be on Steelers logo.
