I hope the mods dont mind me putting this on as a seperate thread, but bertmonkeys comment on THF had me smiling, because I think he has the nail on the head re his club the Steelers: Another shambolic Steeler's off season, I can't even be bothered to be embarrassed this time! ;D ;D ;D HL Mod edit - Moved to main Ragan's Woes threadI think that sums up the feelings of most of our supporters. Where does our club go from here? - The man in charge is universally disliked by our supporters, seems to have alienated sponsors and players and doesn't seem to have a clue how to run a professional (hahahaha) sports business. If this man remains in charge next season I suspect Ice Sheffield would be double the size we'd need to get all our supporters in. What a shambles!!! Regards Doom

Out of interest what is the capacity of Ice Sheffield? 1,500 Correct. The way things are going the Steeldogs will be a bigger club next season.......Perhaps that will be Ragan's next acquisition. Regards Doom

Ragan quoted as saying 'We couldn't have a loose cannon' Has he not met David Simms?
I absolutely love this quote. Did they not have any financial structures like BUDGETS in place or was it being run like a hot dog stand? How can you blame the coach when he was allowed to do what he wanted. Ask any football chairman what would happen if their manager had the purse strings. Put Ragan on the Apprentice - he would be kicked out after day 1. It starts me feeling sorry for Steelers fans - ? - certainly Cardiff fans. The Elite management committee has to do more to prevent this sort of thing happening. In the football league clubs are deducted points. While not wishing to go along this route transparency and monitoring perhaps somehow has to be put in place. It does the game no good at all, particularly small businesses in those areas. Progressing the game will be put back years if this continues to happen at clubs.

1)...saying, Simon “ran scared” from the club because he didn’t want to run a team with a budget comparable to the others rather than nearly double others'.
... are we finally admitting something here as regards Sheffield spending MORE than others.
2) Perhaps Simon did put in two player signings...but why blame him when the club should have had all this agenda towards signings mapped out and everyone working to a policy? Not worth mentioning that someone else was not professional 'off' ice when you can't even do it yourself.LAME.

In the words of Alan Sugar " He hasn't got a bladdy clue!"
You don't buy a house without doing a survey, but apparently you can buy a hockey club with your eyes closed. lol! Heres a clue for free, they were liquidated the off season before you brought them dumb ass, clearly business wasn't booming.
Can't wait for Simons response tomorrow. Who was acting as GM? was it Regan himself? who is charge of accounts? Simon? Shambles. Good luck Finerty, i think you'll need it, don't forget to leave the caravan in good order when you leave.
Wheres that players union when you need it.

I've got a gut feeling that Steelers won't see out next season. If they start at all. I truly cannot see an average of 3,000 paying fans.

intresting response from Uncle Bob: hockileaks.blog.co.uk/Highlight is: "....the actual figure submitted to the league prior to the start of the season was declared to every owner including Mr Ragan so his excuses that he was unaware of contracts or players full remuneration is nothing but horsepoop!" Love it! Language.

Can't help but chuckle at the banner on the top of the page.

I love it when Steelers fans have the cheek to question how many league titles the Panthers have won in recent years. As far as I'm concerned if you are liquidated then your clubs history goes with it as your success was effectively bought in an unsustainable environment. The Steelers(or whatever the latest operating company goes by) have probably been liquidated more times than titles won.
I understand the Steelers fans themselves aren't at fault for this, in fact I sympathise with them, they deserve better. Eww I feel dirty. However I'm just sick and tired of hearing about Sheffield Steelers financial problems. Bloody get it sorted up there!!!

Having listened to the inferno's inquest on how PR is to save the Devils ...he states they will be run as two sepperate firms , one thing that concerns me is this ..if one of those teams is a better prospect before a puck is dropped and the season started , and he thinks the other team is going to the dog's , will he use the SAFE money of season tickets sales that he has avoided being taken by the Reciever of his failed RINKCORP , from one team to benifit the other and let one team die ? lets say Cardif are the better prospect , those 1000 plus season ticket sales of the Steelers would go a long way to bridge the season until a new rink is built ? £300.000 ? Leaving the Steelers going bust again ? He has stated tonight that altough the clubs are now sepperate firms as from last week , any money paid in and managed by rinkcorp before it went bust is in a joint account ? He also hinted that all money is gone so is the Season ticket money Safe or what ? He has side tracked that question tonight . and PR also looks to have found a new Puppet in Brent Pope . Better watch out Brent he is looking for fall guy's for future use.

Over the years the Steelers have had bad management, if they go under this time I say good riddance.

Leaving the Steelers going bust again ? Well since all the monies paid in full, and the first DD installments have gone, then he can't do that. If he does do that with any further monies coming in, then quite frankly he can get out of Sheffield (that was the polite sentence.) We weren't sure of him in the first place, and after what we've seen tonight, we can see ourselves being crapped upon from up high yet again. We have had enough of poor ownership and management. Now is the time to invest in the Euromillions tomorrow night!

The problem PR has with his two teams now is that they are both expecting equal investment like he initially promised. Now he's running two completely seperate organisations that may not happen so although this is what the fans from especially Cardiff wanted they may be complaining yet again in the near future.
I must admit to being constantly in the dark at how he'd of managed this in the first place though, one team plays out of a tent which holds 2500 and still doesn't sell out and the other plays out of an arena and had quite a few very profitable gates last season. Looking at the rosters last year there couldn;t have been too much difference to the wages spent.

I thought he came across quite well. He admits to getting certain things wrong and fair play to him. There is no doubt he's an intelligent guy and a very capable businessman. Let's hope he can take two of Britain's biggest teams into financial stability.
If we find ourselves in the same position this time next year the yes get the pitchforks out but I'd like to see him given a chance.

Maybe I'm a cynic but for me Regan said what the Cardiff fans wanted to hear and they bought it.

Maybe I'm a cynic but for me Regan said what the Cardiff fans wanted to hear and they bought it. Perhaps. To be fair though a fan forum will only ever be lip service anyway. Fans in general know nothing about running hockey clubs and shoud be allowed nowhere near major decisions. Ragan is a successful businessman and the sport needs more of those in charge. If in two years time it's all failed then Steelers in particular are no worse off than this time last year. If he does manage to turn the teams around though he'll be hailed as the saint and Nigel Black will go back to the top of everyone (except ours generally) hate list.
