Surly too late for Fife next season? Oh yes this is the Elite league afterall.
i'd prefer them to be announced for the following season, give them a year to get ready.

Not any later than Stars joined last season really. Their first season will all be about surviving financially and building a team within their means.

I have just had a look on the Fife Flyers Forum and according to one persons post at the moment there is no Fife in the elite league apparently where this rumor has come from is a statement made by a PR person at Edinburgh who was asked about the 27 games on the season ticket to which he answered 24 home league games and 3 home cup games. He was then asked if Fife where in the league would those games be covered to which he answered IF Fife were in the league then those games would be on the season ticket. He did not say that Fife had actually joined the league so at the moment it is still a 9 team league next season.

Technically, that's correct Fife aren't in the Elite yet. However I do know the application is in and awaiting approval.

I really hope that this is true as it would be great to have another team in the league.

Not any later than Stars joined last season really. Their first season will all be about surviving financially and building a team within their means. They come in last minute, get blasted by 5 goals each week, all the casual fans desert them, the finances fail and they struggle alone for seasons. Caps won't do anything again next season, the stars were ill prepared. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail, that would be a good moto for the Elite league.

Agree its not ideal, but in Fifes case they've had their hand forced this season. Ideally they'd be fully prepared, but theres no way they will manage to muster a full squad in such a short timescale, capable of any more than surviving in the first season. If they do they great! Their finances will not be in question as they always have ran a tight ship financially and lets hope they do that again and build a team capable of competing.

I expect Fife to be competitive next season, there's no reason why you can't put a team together in a short space of time and still do reasonably well. Fife will be looking to play some good hockey, bring the fans back and stay competitive. That's more than achievable.

You guys need to remember, Fife could spend it like the rest during the ISL and they never went belly up. They can handle their accounts well under their ownership. I'd quite expect them to be able to put things into swing and look after themselves in the process.
Fingers crossed they're in and play next season!

We have always been sound financially and run a tight ship. Id still expect us to rely more on Brits tho and think we will run on a slightly reduced import quota. Big step up for us townies mixing it up with the city gents.

As much as I'd like you to be right... blah blah blah, we've heard it all before, bald statements like that with nothing to back them up... not a good first post, mate. I'd love to see Fife in the EIHL, but please - if you don't have anything to back it up... do us all a favour and wait until you do? Seems a reasonable post to me. To the point and seemingly quite accurate. Accurate, eh? Today's Fife Free Press article:- www.fifetoday.co.uk/sport/ice-hockey/flyers_quash_elite_league_rumours_1_1682305Now do you get it? Rumour, rumour, rumour... Unsupported claim after claim... Bull, bull, bull... SSDD. Like many others, I'm still hoping that we'll have Fife in the EIHL next season... but Muir's got to stop this fannying about and get off his backside and DO SOMETHING!!! While there's still time...

While there's still time... Ok we told you they were accurate This is taken from today's Scottish Sunday Mail - Fife flyers have performed a stunning u-turn and made a late application to step up to the elite league for the new season. Their bid is to be considered at the meeting in nottingham on thursday. And if fife, britain's oldest club are succesful they would join braehead clan, dundee ccs stars and edinburgh capitals in britain's top division. Flyers' move marks a u-turn from their posistion earlier when a statement on their website claimed they were not thinking of making the step up from the northern league. It read "No discussion has taken place between fife and the elite league. No offer has been made or discussed". Now do you get it

Now do you get it The point - which you have obviously completely missed - is that saying it is one thing... reality is quite another. We've been hearing this 'Fife to the Elite League' thing for months... time and again it has been said, and time and again nothing has happened. And you know what? - until it actually happens, even statements supported by the above news article mean nothing. Just rumours. If I may direct your attention to the date on hockeyfan's post:- Fife to be announced as 10th team in next seasons EIHL. you will notice that it was made almost a week ago. Seeing as the EIHL meeting to decide whether they'll be accepted isn't going to happen for another few days... the post was purely speculative. Again. Or, should I say... yet again! Believe me, if or when Fife Flyers join the Elite League, I for one will be very happy... I've been saying for years that I'd like to see that. But please... give over with the speculation-poorly-disguised-as-fact, eh? Or do you work for BIH? - that's more their style...

I suppose it's all to do with how it's worded. If I had posted over a week ago saying Fife had applied to join the Elite league, this would have been factually correct (although I can't actually prove it!). However, as has been pointed out, they aren't technically in the Elite league until they are accepted, roll on Thursday

Well British Ice Hockey are getting in on the rumour mill, they've been tweeting a rumour that Fife are going to be accepted into the elite league tomorrow. We shall see. Using BIH as a source adds little credibility to any discussion. They make so many wild guesses that eventually law of averages works in their favour. Yes Fife may be accepted into the EIHL tomorrow but countless other sources have been guessing at that for weeks, it'd hardly be a scoop.

Jack Wishart, one of the Fife directors will indeed be attending the elite meeting tomorrow. We have apparently expressed an interest in joining but thats it and tomorrows meeting will likely discuss this and Flyers will be putting across their pros and cons about the league and voice their reservations. There is absolutely no reason to suggest that Flyers wouldnt be competitive, our current Brits showed that last season in games against Edinburgh and Dundee and a number of Fifers playing elsewhere have said they would return if Flyers were playing at the highest level and with our excellent connections in North America, we are after all the team that brought Doug Smail, Laurie Boschman and Ronnie Plumb straight from the NHL to play in Britain as well as two Olympic gold medalists in Vincent Lukac and Milan Figala. We have a catchment area similar to Hull with no real sporting competition and have facilities and crowd capacity similar to those at Hull, Dundee, Coventry and Cardiff and there is no reason to believe that we would not be on a par with Hull, Braehead, Dundee and Edinburgh. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of people in Fife who have huge reservations about the elite league and in an ideal world we would be in a league of 5/6 imports and stringent restraints on wages but there isnt that type of league for us to be in. Maybe if we are in the elite we can effect change from within and at the moment it is the only league for us. The fans of the oldest club in Britain wait for tomorrows meeting with an equal ammount of anticipation and trepidation

Fife may have reservations but they have no cards to play, its basically join the EIHL on its terms, become little more than a rec hockey team or fold.
Muir should have jumped in when he had more to bargain with rather than throwing a hissy fit with his mate in Guildford, leading to him and his club having little choice but to bend and take.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Fife in the EIHL but the club is in a far weaker position to negotiate thanks to the owners ego getting in the way and along the rocky road a once great team has shed many fans.

Seems to be a lot of positivity surrounding Fife joining the EIHL at todays meeting, hope it goes well for them.
