I personally want more teams rather than less. A twelve team EIHL would be brilliant but there has to be steps taken to make sure it's competitive.

Cannot agree more, much rather have a league with 6 teams that are all even strength and competitve than a leage with a team that gets spanked 18-0 every week./

I'm still confident we'll see a competitive Edinburgh in the league enxt season and I'd love to see Fife join, I have no idea which way that'll go though. It does seem that for the first time there is genuine pressure being put on the owners by the fans to join the EIHL but who knows. Newcastle is the one that really worries me, there is just no getting around the fact that there's not a good enough venue currently open to them. It's just a case of whether it's worth the league supporting them until there is or mothballing them ala Manchester for a few years. I really hope it's the first but fear it'll be the second. Another obvious option would be Guildford and there seems to be a lot of noise around MK also being interested but I imagine it'll be a case of both or neither which makes it that bit more difficult.

A lot of locals in Fife are convinced that our facilities aren't necessarily an issue. I've grown up with the current rink so have a sentimental attachment to it but would also like to see a more modern facility. Problem is, I can't see where the money would come from.
I believe we do actually have plexi-glass but to fit it would be a big job.
There was an article in a local paper about 2.5 years ago hinting that the current facility probably had another 5 years life in it and that the local authority would assist in the future of a new facility.
However, that was just before the world went belly up financially and there's been nothing further on this front.

Apparently Fife have the plexi glass, but it hasn't been put up yet. Maybe Mr Black and Mr Ragen will have to put some money in for Fife to join the league.

Interesting article from Mick Holland in the NEP talking about Fifes history, but of more relevance he implies that the rink doesnt meet the criteria laid down by the Elite League for teams to compete in the league - namely that if plexi glass is not installed then Fie would not be allowed to join the league.

All this talk about Fife's rink maybe not meeting EIHL standards... I doubt very much that this will be a factor. If the Fife ownership want to join, then you can bet that the critera will be met somehow... if they don't want to join, the facilities won't have anything to do with it.
This is all about the people, not the place.

Frozen? Hah - that's nothing. I once spent an entire game at Murrayfield - in December no less, IIRC - dressed in just t-shirt, shorts and sandals. Fife holds no fear for me... ;D

Careful what you say, or I'll inflict photographic proof on you! (presenting the MoM beer to Ryan Shmyr, too). Be afraid... be very afraid! ;D

I remember that Fife's place wasn't that bad... well in 1980something it looked ok, but I was probably drunk at the time.

RUMOUR: BIH understand with the Solway Sharks expected to join ENL North 2, the Fife Flyers are having a re-think regarding EIHL hockey.

Because one would *probably* struggle without the other. Solway would destroy everything in front of them in ENL2. Someone use their common sense and put them in Div1!

If the Northern League does collapse is it more likely that the Flyers will be tempted into the EPL rather than the jump to the Elite league??

Its either ENL1 or EIHL....or nowt!

Well, here's hoping for a 10-team elite league once again then!
