Flyers missing out on Weber (and, to a lesser extent, losing Jagr), Devs losing Parise and Pens losing Staal (to a lesser extent, of course) while Rangers strengthen is a big advantage for NYR. A good job hockey is played on paper, and not ice....

Doan re-signs in Phoenix, 4 yr deal @ $5.3m per.
Would've been very odd watching him in another jersey.

And here comes the busiest week of the season. Trades aplenty leading up to the draft.
I really don't expect us to use our #1. It'll go to Anaheim somehow for Bobby Ryan.

I see Philly have made Bryz a compliance buy out, $23m over the next 14 years to not play for them, that was one costly mistake by Holmgren.

It wasn't Holmgren's mistake, it was Snider. He pulled the strings on that one. Good to get rid of him and Briere though, even if Streit is an unusual signing. Cap space aplenty!

Dogs sign Mike Smith to a 6yr/$5.7m per contract, perhaps a bit steep.
Should get a very good idea today whether we're done in the desert or not, Glendale voting on the lease agreement and Batman's said we're off if it doesn't go through.

Glendale agrees the lease agreement, looks like they're staying, for now at least

Seguin and Peverley are great pick ups for the stars - lacking any centres, we can put Benn back on the wing. Loui was a fave of mine but his value basically allowed us to strengthen our middle massively. Seguin had problems in Boston so in Dallas away from the lime light and a place he concentrate on his game will do him the world of good to live up to his potential

I've thought it all season but now it's definitely the Blues' cup to lose.

It's sad that the only real way you can become great in this league is by tanking. Boston and possibly San Jose aside, is there a single really good team in the league who haven't spent years at the bottom? Buffalo are spending a couple of years hoovering up picks and prospects and will surely see the benefit in the future. We're never crap enough to be worthwhile tanking and never good enough to not matter. Shame.

Doesn't always do the trick though Dan, the Oil seem to have stunk for years and drafted accordingly, and are still down there.

True, but them and the Panthers are the exception rather than the rule. The Oilers are the antithesis of how not to be managed.
Looking at the current top 10, the vast majority have had multiple top-3 picks in the past decade. It's not the route of success that should be encouraged surely?

Luongo traded to Florida.
Vancouver seem to have given up entirely, even lost to us last night...

Martin St Louis traded to the Rags, Callahan and a couple of picks going to Tampa.

Seen some pundits putting NYR and Boston as favourites for the East. Think Boston are ahead of NYR, and the Pens are at least level, if not ahead as well. But short term (and you wouldn't expect NYR to look be anything other than short term) NYR were the big winners on deadline day I think. The cup will be won by a team out west though - Ducks or Blues probably.

I was happy with the stars picking up Tim Thomas and without losing draft picks or any players other than Ellis. Robidas going was inevitable
