Aye, was all a bit disappointing. I actually think we might now get Parise. I'd prefer Suter. Is Pronger coming back because if not, Suter would be a great replacement.

Whitney and Jagr got 113 points last season. Dallas had the worst PP in the league. Backed up with the signing of Roy and we're a completly different prospect from last year. We have some great prospects in the minors - they need some more time to develop. And if they do need to be called up, who better to mentor them than 2 blokes who've done it all!

Parise & Suter sign in MIN. Difficult to understand... Parise has decided he doesn't want to win a cup then.

What makes you say that? Minny are young and very good now. They're a definite contender.

They started last year like a house on fire and faded. They're a year older, have a top 5 defenseman in the back and a young star winger to bolster their front lines. Minnesota are now a very good team and a real threat. I don't get why you think they're not going to win games...

Parise & Suter sign in MIN. What the.... ?? OK - that takes me completely by surprise. I wasn't expecting us to land even one of those two, much less the both of them. It's a great upgrade on a Wild team that already has a fair bit of (as yet unrealised?) talent and even more potential... ... ... BUT... ... www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=399913Both of them getting THIRTEEN-YEAR contracts? $98m each? Just over $7.5m per year average for each of them? Never mind which team it is, the one I support or not... those contracts are stupid. If the Wild are lucky, they'll get away with one of the two providing full value for most or all of the term of their contract... if the Wild are VERY lucky! But both? - not a chance in hell. Something has to be done to save these numpty owners and GMs from themselves... restrict all contracts to a maximum of 5 years, restrict the annual salary to a percentage of the team cap, and outlaw front-loading. Insanity, plain and simple.

The money/lengths are pretty silly but I think it's great they've signed for a "less fashionable" team; PIT & DET were supposedly a lock with Suter allegedly having a verbal agreement to go to the Redwings.
Good for the Wild though and hopefully it kicks the trades into high gear now.

I agree that it's good that they've not automatically gone to one of the 'big' teams - even more so that it's the team I support! - but I can't help wondering just how "good" this will be for the Wild... long-term, anyway. As you say, the contract lengths and the money are pretty silly... they only make sense if there's a guarantee that nothing will change for the worse. Yeah, right - as if THAT is going to happen!. If the salary cap falls for whatever reason, teams with these big contracts are going to be hurting, and quite badly. If a career is cut short through injury? - not good. Or if a player with an 8-year, 10-year or 13-year contract finds that he just doesn't fit in the new team? Trading them would be near impossible... at least with any expectation of getting something more than a bag of pucks in return. (Aren't the New York Islanders still paying Eric Lindros?). And no doubt there are a load of other potential banana-skins that haven't occurred to me. The question I'm wondering is... are Parise and Suter really that good? Or are they just the best of a fairly poor crop this year of available UFAs, and GMs have artificially inflated their market value? Don't get me wrong - from what I've seen, they're both pretty good NHL players... but 13-year-contract-$7.5m-a-year good? Not convinced at all...

I don't think any player deserves that length regarding a contract; This year's UFA crop isn't very good either but Parise & Suter were the best ones IMP

They were always going to sign together. For that price I'm glad we steered clear.
Someone is going to give Carle the type of money that Timonen makes. Ludicrous.
