We addressed our constant lack of offence by signing Martin Erat, who has as many goals this year as Mike Smith. Stanley Cup here we come.

Leafs and Senators looking to trade Phaneuf and Spezza respectively.

I don't think trading Dion makes sense from the Leafs point of view, he's a good defence man who suffers from brain cramps due to being severely over played. He needs a partner who can play at his level and as much as I liked Gunnarsson, he wasn't a competent defensive partner. I've no idea who they play with him this coming season.

Overplayed and overpaid, but I'm not sure you'd get good value for him. Maybe Buff? Stay where you are I'd say.

I don't think BUF could add him as they've added a lot of salary recently; there's a rumour that Phaneuf has a landing place one one Eastern & one a Western team but he won't waive his NTC. I hope they keep him, but they need some one to play alongside him.
As for being over paid, not my money & he'd have gotten similar coin as a UFA, plus TOR have enough cap space to make a few additions, so that's neither here nor here in all honesty.

All UFAs get overpaid these days, it's crazy. Minny have done well but the amount of players that are making out like bandits because of UFA is insane.
On the subject, Kane and Toews reportedly days away from an 8 year extension for TEN POINT EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.

In fairness, if the vanishing man Radim Vrbata can get 5m per then those two are probably well worth 11m/yr.

I don't think CHI had much of a choice in re-signing both players. The UFAs this summer have been poor but it gets a lot more interesting next season when there are some good players likely to test free agency.

Yandle to the Rags. Gutted. As a Rangers fan I think you got the best deal. Just. a 1st, 2nd and a genuine top prospect in Duclair (who had great chemistry in jrs with Domi). Coyotes taking a chunk of salary helps though

The first is protected though isn't it, so it won't be a high pick unless Rangers really collapse.
I think Yands is a top player, he has the odd brainfart but to me he makes up for it overall, carries the puck brilliantly, superb passer. With better players I'll be amazed if he doesn't rack them up big time. Leader too, stuck with the Dogs through all the crap.
Yeah we've brought back some more hopefully good pieces, but we've given up proven good, and in AZ that's in pretty short supply.

I think Yandle is a very good player - but we have many good d-men - Girardi, Staal, McDonough, Klein, Boyle - with Lundqist its a stacked team from the blueline back - it is a win or bust route we've gone down.
