Caruso is o.k. & Gagnon id keep. His presence is important. As ive said many many times though it's about improving on them and not expecting Gagz to be a top end Dman. Which he has been again. I like Summers but wouldn't be bothered if he didn't return. Even Gagz, who I do really like could be upgraded as a Dman as long as somebody is signed with equal stature in terms of protecting team mates. It's like Pidge said though and something that has been touched on plenty by myself and others. To many good CVs come here and fail for it to simply be about them. We all know there is a bigger picture he and it'll just be a case of rinse and repeat regardless of who comes in next. JCB can go. Lingren can go. Lagrone can go. Ricci(not a propper Dman) can go. Caruso Keep(uni deal anyway) Gagnon keep. It should be more like. Import Import J Hazeldine Gagnon Caruso A Hazeldine Happy to have another import in if we can get better quality Brit forwards in. That defence still ain't good enough for top 4 let alone better I dont entirely disagree. Just depends who we can actually get hold of. Also depends on roster rules to. Rumours on twitter this week of 15 imports next season. Archie has impressed when played but if we can get a better Brit Dman, improve the forwards and go with 5 import D then Happy Days. With a competitive roster Archie may be best served on a 2 way still. Id mich rather still have the 22 man roster size to allow the likes of Archie to be involved more. It'd be great if we could go and get Perlini and Betteridge back. Does Fererra get another go? A player who falls in to the good record but poor here catagory. Based on this season alone then why would we waste the money? One thing is for sure, Myers needs to be done after this season.

Hopkins still listed as the spare/10th forward on the game sheet.

In his interview when told it's Guilford tomorrow(today) he may aswell have just said "oh F... Me" 🤣 Speaks well of Hopkins but has barely given him a chance since he arrived. 6th or 7th isn't going to make mich difference. Get Hopkins on the ice with some of the better forwards and get him some experience. Same for Hazeldine. I do agree with him regards the Dmen though. JCB aside I do think they do a decent job themselves. It's the forwards part of the team D that so often lets them down. Yeah Hopkins and Hazeldine need a lot more minutes because we’ll finish 6th or 7th and they’re not going to be the difference between us winning and losing games. I personally disagree about the defence, I think Caruso is the best of a bad bunch and we should be looking for a full import clear out in the summer bar Jones Caruso is o.k. & Gagnon id keep. His presence is important. As ive said many many times though it's about improving on them and not expecting Gagz to be a top end Dman. Which he has been again. Was part of the retro thing extended to include giving players nicknames as they were introduced, like Steelers used to do with everybody? Just get them on the ice and get on with it. The whole intro still doesn't work for me. 7 nation army is just to slow to skate out to and player call outs to much per player. It's not really bad. Just needs to be quicker and more energy.

Good grief. I’d not even noticed Lindgren wasn’t playing and it took me until half way through to miss Ferrara… Official reasons? Lindgren warmed up but apparently said he was 'sore' so didn't want to play. Corey sounds fuming on his interview about it. No idea about Ferrara...not that you'd notice if he was playing or not. The game sheet had 3 goalies on and 15 imports. I was told before the game that Archie was on the team sheet as there was a doubt about a Dman. Clearly it was well known before game time that he may not play. Obviously Corey was unimpressed all the same. I've heard nothing but you have to Wonder about Welsh too. Just the way the mind works in times like this but just feels a bit fishy. Somebody else whos not in Coreys good books?

Thought our Brit back looked particularly woeful tonight. Well, to be honest thats a bit harsh. Hopkins did ok all things considered. At least he battled hard. Hazeldine did o.k too. To judge the contribution as a collective though, there just wasn't really any. Brit packs make such a difference. I thought Kelsall had one of his worst games of the season and Myers one of his worst ever performamces full stop, topped off nicely by his turnover for their 4th goal.

Positives. Thought Summers had a good game. Anderson took his goal nicely. That is I believe the first SHG Steelers have conceded all year. At least it wasn’t an embarrassing score in the end. I had Summers as my MoTM.

On the plus side, Panthers were so predictably aweful it saved me getting to angry about the refs. They were aweful but im not sure there is a word that exists to describe that performance from Panthers.
I've watched a hell of a lot of games but that performance was up there. Lacked pretty much everything.

Can anybody explain why Panthers is a Reverse Retro? What makes it reverse? Is it that the colours are different to the original Black version of it? Did they miss that we had a yellow/gold versiom of that Jersey originally? Or am I missing something all together?

Panthers night to wear the retro jersey. I quite like the league wide approach to this, even if it is just to make more money. What I do find a bit of a shame though is that both teams wont be wearing retro at the same time. Dont think Sheffield have even announced theirs yet and their night isn't for a few weeks. Would have been much better to have it all confined to one weekend where possible. Retro worn home and away. Just go to the nearest possible fixture for anybody without a home game(Only Blaze this weekend).
Crikey. That's what this season has boiled down to for us. Talking Retro kit instead of being bothered about the game.

Belfast Currently 2 0 up towards the end of the 1st period in the CC final.
The 2nd was a Short handed breakaway. It looked close to being offside. A debate between coaches and referees was had. With Nelfast asking the ref how he cant know the rules on challenges. Doh. Fife decided not to put in a coaches challenge as if they were wrong it would have been 2 0 and a 2 minute penalty.
Make that 3 0. Against this Belfast side in their building thats game over. Just hope it dpesn't get silly.

Came alive in the 3rd Period. Why The Giants released Payton Jones, I don't know. Officiating as awesome as ever; Dundee get a tripping call, A Star has a go at Myers and Sorenson steps him but only Sorenson gets a Penalty, making it offsetting. Then the resulting Face Off is in the Panthers Zone, why I don't know, surely it's centre ice. Then 8 seconds later, Dundee think they've equalised but it's disallowed. It certainly looked in. Later on, Jones is ran into, Gagnon has words and only he gets called. I think the face off thing must be in the rules somewhere. Seen it a few times. A second penalty on the opposing team after the initial call sees the face off moved the other end. The reviewed goal, I can only guess that the whistle had gone before it went clearly in after being pulled back the first time when sitting on the line. I was also suprised to see them not review Dundees 2nd. At the time I thought it was a good goal, however it only just crept in the top corner and then bounced back out in front of the goal line. Not really a problem as I thought it was a fair call. To be that close though youd have thought theyd have checked.

Pidge individually some of these players could be successful as part of a team that has quality throughout but this is not the case with the squad in Nottingham right now. Up until Jones arrived (who seems a step up but still released by our competition for a reason) we had a very poor goal keeping duo closely followed by from what i have seen one of the poorest defences ever seen in Nottingham (so imho not sure i would want any of them back, maybe Caruso for the right price and Gagnon if he started to show why he was here and no higher than D man 5.) As for the forwards well.... I was happy at the start of the season to sign Hammond but not sure he has earned a new contract on performances i have seen and this also applies to Sorensen and Welsh (the only forwards i would have considered), a new Brit pack would be essential as well as Myers is too old and the others are just not up to the job (in some cases this is just experience but hey - looking at you Archie). As for later additions, would love Welychka back, not sure its likely to happen and really havent seen enough of Ricci, Izacky or Lahtinen to have a balanced view tbh but given we have scraped the barrel ALOT this season i suspect they would be unlikely to be good enough to base a team around... Spot on. You can trawl my posts to see what i've said time and time again. They arn't all bad players but it's more about the role they are asked to play. There may be a forward or 2 worth having back on a 3rd line but we currently have them on the 1st. Gagnon has had the same issue this time as he did last. He should not be relied upon to play top pairing D minutes but again finds himself doing so. The lack of Dmen and injuries have meant he's had to try stay on the ice. He does though still manage to play the role of modern enforcer. He has words and most people just back down. It's easy to say he hasn't brought what you expect as he hasn't dropped the gloves very often. There is though one thing that has changed as positive this season and I thing Gagnon is entirely responsible for it. Go look at last seasons threads and observe how many times people mentioned the team being bullied, then compare it to this. I'm not sure i've seen it mentioned once. That is purely down to Gagnons presence. There isn't much you can actually see game in game out but opposition just dont take liberties as they know there could be consequences.

Jonathan Philips set to retire at the end of the season. sheffieldsteelers.co.uk/video-steelers-captain-jonathan-phillips-to-retire/Even if a Steeler he is a player I have always admired. His Team GB team talk a few years back makes him even more of a legend. Personally I hope rivalries are put to one side and we can recognise his career when they visit Nottingham next weekend.

Steelers score 1 goal in 125 minutes against Fife this weekend but prevent Fife scoring at all. They end up with a 4 point weekend.

7th place just around the corner. Luckily there are enough bad teams to at least keep Panthers in the top 8 come the end of the season.
Belfast have had 2 games inbetween Tuesday when we played and tonight, their 4th in 6 nights.

...Also bring Archie back on defence. I don't understand why he has been dropped... Nobody does. Because Hockey, perhaps D in particular is a mans game according to CN. A league season that is a write off is the perfect opportunity to give a player like Archie the chance to get loads of EIHL experience. He's proved his ability. 20+ regular games could've had him well prepared for a full time slot next season. We could have him in the line up and put Ricci with the new guy and Myers or Sorensen for a decent grind line capable of good production.

I dont buy in to this mentality that the seaon is over. Since when did the play offs just become a throw away meaningless competition. I know it's format is abysmal and devalues it to a degree but it's the still the play offs and still holds stature to the players and the wider hockey community. It'll still show as a Championship on a CV and teams records.
The club should be looking to do all they can to give themselves a chance of winning it. They should do it for the loyal fans, they should do it for this years team and they should do it as a starting point to build on. Ending the season with that trophy put's a much more positive feeling into the club and perhaps even helps bring in players that see they are coming to a winning team.
If nothing else it'll perhaps do enoughto keep some cash cows coming back next season that otherwise were going to jack it in.
Shopping at Lidl whilst the real contentders are in Waitrose again. For what it's worth though,I think this guy could be one of those great finds out of the bargain basket. Let's hope so.
