Stop beating yourselves up. We did try to tell HL and all the "tongue in cheek" posters on the "tin Shed" that Hull were no pushover. They are a skilled, fast skating team, as are Coventry and Edinburgh.
One aspect of "European Hockey imports" is that the European experience is now over, hope that their enthusiasm for the Panthers does not suffer the same attitude.
As we tried to tell HL on his numerous visits to Steeltalk, it is early days yet, and with the equality of experience in the league anything can happen.

Well after we broke down in our car last ON A TRAMLINE!! missing the entire game, not only am I hacked off with that but to have paid money for Panthers tickets and NOT being able to walk out half way through is almost as annoying!!
Now, sitting in a breakdown lorry with flashy lights seems more fun that what we would have witnessed at panthers last night!

It seems we learnt nothing from the CC! We played against three european teams and suffered from their fast skating and stickwork, we come back and play the Caps and Stingrays, both teams heavy on europeans and lo and behold their fast skating and stickwork leaves us standing. Where was our checking, apart from the odd one Simoes threw?? I noticed that they like to carry the puck towards the zone and lay it off. If you were checked them as soon as you got the puck it kinda puts you off your game a little. We depend on the long pass forward and we were caught several times. Where was the defence tonight? Nielsson was shocking, made basic errors and was too far forward, in fact sometimes you would have thought that he was a forward rather than a defender. Lindsay may have known how Cruickshank felt with no one in front of him at times. Maybe ME has to look at changes, maybe the threat of losing your job might focus the mind. I thought that some of Hanson calls were questionable too. Krajicek 2 for tripping was harsh he was stood with his stick on the ice and their player fell over it, Krajicek wasn't moving, he error was to gob off about and then not shut up. Same as Simoes interference one, the Hull player 'runs' into a stationary man falls over gets the call and has a big grin on his face as he kneels on the ice. Hull have some good players but the way they 'cheated' to get a penalty isn't really sportsmanship is it?, but then Myers nad Clarke have tried the same thing

Well, what can I say? I took the car last night, at least I had the excitement of trying to find somewhere to park and the hoping my car would still be there when I got out! The down side, what a waste of petrol money!!
I take nothing away from Hull a well-deserved victory
ME should sit the team down and make them watch the last 2 home games, 6 periods of hockey and 1 goal for and 4 against, out shot on both occasions No wonder the Stingray fans were chanting EASY, because it was!
PS
Can someone tell me when the side that went out to Rouen are coming back? The team that I’ve been watching recently are nothing like the one that went out there.

Still to annoyed to say too much but 3 things from me on the comments on here:
1. The DOG penalty. I was really surprised when Hanson called it last night as we've been told previously that the interpretation is that the players benches don't count. On Saturday Cloutman didn't call it much to Edinburgh's disgust but I though Cloutman had it right because of the interpretation we were given. Inconsistencies as usual betwen the refs.
2. PLEASE, PLEASE PUT THE LINES BACK TO HOW THEY WERE. Our top two lines were tearing the league apart and the third wasn't doing too badly either. I noticed they'd switched to a slightly better combination in the 3rd period last night when Ellie finally realised that it's not a good concept to put both your main goal scorers on the same line as that line gets shut down. However the 3rd period lines were still not back to how they were before. Suspect it's because Matty Myers has been demoted to 3rd line. Can't really blame Ellie for that on recent showings.
3. Matty what on earth were you doing? It's a TEAM game. You pass the puck to the person with the best chance to score and you NEVER answer back your coach especially publically and mid-game! Shame as we've seen he can do so much better than that!

Morning after thoughts.....
My opinion is that, whilst there's no one reason for the slump in form / results, the main one is our inability to play against Europeans.
We struggled to get 2 victories in Edinburgh (pior to the Continental Cup although, to be fair, we did actually win !) and the general consensus was that a share of the 4 points would have been fairer. Edinburgh are full of fast skating Europeans. We've now lost to Edinburgh again, and Hull twice (similar to Edinburgh, only better !!!).
Who've we beaten ? The so called 'better' teams (Belfast and Cardiff), along with Basingstoke. These teams are like ours, based around North Americans. Manchester are bit of a mixture, so 2 very close games with them.
So, if the above is correct, and we are one of the best, if not the best, North American style teams, then we should be O.K. against Steelers come Saturday (and Blaze on Sunday).
BUT
If our confidence is 'shot at' because of recent results, then anything can happen. Also worrying that, after many opportunities, including the Continental Cup, we haven't figured out how to play these fast-skating teams. ME talks about Panthers not sticking to the game plan.....maybe that's all it is i.e. the Coach knows how to combat these teams, but the players can't put it into action.
Also, we don't have one single 'speedy type skater' ! Edinburgh and Hull are full of 'em. In fact, the closest we have is Rod Stevens who, whilst playing well (in my opinion), ain't comparable to anyone the two afore-mentioned teams have on their roster.
In fact, despite the Training Camp and the Continental Cup, in comparison to some other teams, we haven't come to terms with ZT. I know the Refs are inconsistent (some penalise Simoes sometimes, others don't, for example), and frustrations boil over, especially when we are behind in a game, but we've got to be more disciplined. As someone has already said, that doesn't mean that we can't get more physical, it's just doing it at the right times in the right way.
This weekend will go a long way to 'forming' how the rest of the season is going to pan out:
2 wins and it's game on (especially if the 'European teams' can be figured out). 2 defeats and we really are in a mess and something will have to give. 2 points out of 4.....again, not really satisfactory, but prolongs any potential agony or ecstasy.
Finally, do I think we'll beat Steelers on Saturday ?
Yes !
For those of you who are thinking of not going, I'd have a long hard think about it. With the way the season has gone thus far, I'd go as far to say that it's the biggest Panthers / Steelers game (from a Panthers point-of-view, not necessarily Steelers) since the Challenge Cup Final (well, maybe the home Play Off game last season was important as well, but least said !).
With a bit of luck and a fair whistle.....

Honest question here. trolls dont bother replying Is it really the CC fault for your slump. Having seen some applications by players, one of the reasons for players signing is the fact that the team is playing in a European competition. Cynically I would say its because they are looking a season ahead and looking for big bucks next season. I think playing in the CC is a superb experience for both players and coach. ( The fans love the wee wee up, but that is irrelevant). Reckon you are just suffering from a rookie coach who has not figured out how to counteract adversity. Not surprising, its a bitch of a job. Your man is a clever hockey player, he will figure it out. Looks like you maybe need a couple of changes in players to get the best out of the rest. Plenty of players around who have not made the CHL or ECHL. Prudent changes will turn it around. Tambo Every team Tambo will have a bad run unfortunatley the Panthers are still getting over their Bad run in the CC..They were doing fine before that and i'm sure that pre-CC form will return without the need for personell changes... And a lot of folk this year have and will still underestemate Hull they are better than people give them credit for especially between the pipes to say he's hot at the moment is again an understatement.. I think this has been the closest leauge for a good few years and don't write off any of the top 5 or 6 been able to win things this year..

I was watching the iterview with Mike Ellis last week and remembered him saying that 'we play our worst hockey when we're behind' which surely is worrying, we concede one goal and we look beaten already! If we had scored first last night we would of won i just know it.

Very poor from panthers last night. Bu Evan impressed again(not on 1st goal, but did nothing else wrong). Jan skated around like a lost dog half the time and was one of the better performers. Smear? cannot see what he brings. Doesn't seem to hit anyone, his passes go astray more often than not, shooting not a great asset and he doesn't look in the Clothear-Ferone-Voth class of enforcer. And Corey seems to have been overhyped pre season. But you have the players to get it back. Maybe a cracker vs Steelers might wake you up. Thought Hanson had a pretty good game. Though the DoG pens seem to waste more time than under the old rules. And just how good was that 1st period Hipcheck?

Wow, I picked another good game to miss then. I didn't go on Saturday as I had a family do and I didn't go last night kind of on principle as I'm a season ticket holder. Hopefully, Saturday will see our hangover over.
Its not just me noticing how lax Nielson is as a defender now then ? Is he more used to playing forward ?

6-0 to Hull................... Mark Florence to take out all yer imports!!!!! Well I was half right ! LoL! So you were! The match ticket was half right too - it said Panthers v Stingrays...... the Stingrays turned up and played...... Joking aside, we looked to play a very poor game last night but it's easy for us Panther fans to overlook the fact that sometimes you can only play as well as the opposition let you. Thought Hull played a good game. Well organised defence, good skating and passing with real speed on the break. That's a difficult combination to counter - you should pose problems for all the teams in the League if you keep playing like that. Its not just me noticing how lax Nielson is as a defender now then ? Is he more used to playing forward ? He has a reputation of being a very offencive minded defenceman. He needs a solid stay-at-home Dman paired with him (Scott Ricci would have been ideal). In the early games of the season the team as a whole were covering when the Dmen pinch in (as they do quite regularly) but lastnight there very little cover at all from anyone - possibly due to the lads trying too hard to make things happen. Too many risky shots from the blueline as well - taking big shots when pinching in is fraught with danger the way teams like Hull and Edinburgh block shots. A blocked shot that bounces back past the shooter is a beautiful setup pass to send the defending team away to the races. The passing along the blueline needs to be sharper if the shot is to be got away before the block can be made.

Well well well.... i just dont know what to say.... absolute rubbish performance.
I, along with many other fans, understand we will lose, i also dont mind losing, yeah it hurts but what really gets my goat is when we lose and have shown no passion to win the game. Last night was an example of a team not putting in the passion an commitment to win the game.
I agree with MP, we cannot take away from Hull a fantastic performance, and thats exactly what it was from Hull. But we cannot miss the fact that the Panthers played awful. Yeah it may be a case of we have won more than we have lost.... but last night, there was no reason why we couldnt have tried alot harder! Poor passing, poor shots, poor special teams, poor coaching (will come to that later) and what winds me up, is the poor discipline.
For me, only 2 people deserved the MoM... Blaz, he never gives up and every match will be a stand out player, and Simoes, pretty much the same reason. Jan was in there for me, until he decided to lose it, and not only show himself up but the whole team too! To many players played badly to mention them all, but one does get a very very special mention - Matt Myers!!!! Im disgusted that Myers and Cooke are getting ice time ahead of Niel and Ferrera, our 2 young lads are playing brilliantly and deserve the regular shifts. Im sorry but Cooke hasnt shown me anything so far this season to warrant his spot on the bench, and Myers is winding me up more and more every match. I think what does it for me when it comes to Matt, is we know he can be a good player, but it seems that his ego has grown beyond his ability. What is it that makes him think he is to good to pass??? He gets it to some great space on the ice, then screws it up by trying to go it alone. There are 4 other players on that ice.... PASS THE BLOODY PUCK! and while your at it, get your skates sharpened... your starting to look like Casson Masters!!!! Oh, and by the way, that 3rd goal, i wouldnt lay all blame on Jan, Myers watched the puck sail past him, then just stood there like he was stuck in the mud and watch the stingrays break away!
Mopes... hasnt set me on fire at the begining of the season, but the last 2 games i believe he has shown alot more promise and played like the mopes we know!
The Coaching.... numerous amounts of us last night couldnt work out how after 3 games of EIHL action, ME is still refusing to put the lines back to how they were!!!! Its obvious it isnt working in the current format, and its obvious they were before.... so for crying out loud man put them back! Dont get me wrong, i adore Ellis, and i think he is an awesome coach with great potential.... but am i the only one that feels hes abit adey like when it comes to showing passion on the bench?
Cant blame lyndsay at all.... maybe yeah he let one goal in where the blame can be laid at his door, but he made some corkin saves, not least the kick save he made!
Best we can do is lay this behind us, and concentrate on getting back on track and winning some silverware.

The passing along the blueline needs to be sharper if the shot is to be got away before the block can be made. Never mind sharper, the passing "along" the blue-line needs to stop putting everyone offside for starters! Was it just me or did that happen more than usual last night?

Now that most of you have seen Hull, were you impressed? I know we are here in Hull, to be honest I was dreading this season when I looked at who we had signed, but hats off to the lads, they all play for each other and have no superstars, and as Strach said in the Hull daily mail today www.thisishull.co.uk all our players contribute something to the game (with the exeption of the back up goalie!) and that is what is winning us games, last night we nullified Clarke, who is your most potent offensive threat, and then towards the end a bit of indiscipline came in to effect , which didnt help matters. Young Boothroyd scored only his second goal (the brakeaway from the penlty box)for the Stingrays , his first this season. We are now reaping the rewards of that fatefull season in 2003 when Hull Thunder went bacnkrupt and we were forced to play the last 12 remaining games in the BNL with no imports and the likes of the Phillips boys in D and Mark Florence up front er given no option but to step up.

I just buried my head in my hands last night after that total debacle of a game.
Nielson - What planet is he on and when will he land again?
Myers - As someone else has mentioned needs to try and stay on his feet A BIT more than he is doing. Skate UK the classes maybe he should invest.
McAslan - Did not like the way he took that players stick and then threw on the floor like an immature baby, totally childish.
Overal the worst performance I've seen in a while excluding the Capitals defeat recently. No passion (Simoes excluded), terrible passing and no cohesion. It was like watching the Key Stone Cops running around but not funny.
Things need to change now and I also echo somebodys elses post earlier "Put the lines back the way the were" they worked for heavens sake. I never expected playing any team this season would be a cake walk but to me the Stingrays & Capitals are bread & butter games.
Please sort it out!!!!

Now that most of you have seen Hull, were you impressed? I've seen Hull 4 times now this season and haven't seen them lose yet! (Note to self, must only watch Hull aginst the Steelers ;D) Each time they've impressed me, disciplined, organised & lightening quick on the break. Certainly a surprise package but their success so far this season has been fully deserved.

Saw hull v panthers a few weeks ago and I was impressed, thought they dug deep for their deserved win, hard to say really last night as panthers were so poor BUT hull fully once again deserved their win. I noticed a quote on steeltalk about last nights game and someone said 'and they've lost to teams not even in the race for any titles this year'. Sorry but I think hull probably have a pretty good chance myself, maybe the vipers of this season and quitely knocking up the points.
