A very amusing bit of turtle action from a Sheffield player. Must say though in his defence that if a certain Mr Hunt had hold of me I'd be trying to dig myself into the ice......
Shuff leading 5-3 at the end of the second.

Managed to get down to the match tonight and was pleasantly surprised. Was a good tempo with some good hits thrown. Must say Simon Hunt is a character I wish I had got to see him in his prime. Constantly agitating players and jumped up to hit one of the other players haha

Lions MoM was Ollie Betteridge.
A very feisty game, Michael Rose had a fight with both participants going off bleeding (and then standing in the crowd later chatting away with each other as happy as you please).
The EIHA certainly screwed up here... they assigned just ONE official to the game. That's right... one ref, no linesmen. I must say, under the circumstances I think he did a bloody good job.
That's a very important win for the Lions... with both teams going into tonight's game undefeated (Lions P5, W4, D1... Sheffield P3, W3) it was always going to be a tough one... but a good, solid win and very important 2 points for the Lions. And that puts us at the top of North2... on equal points (11) with Deeside Dragons, but having played 3 less games.
Next game is away next Saturday - to Sheffield! They're going to want revenge... Next home game in 2 weeks... to basement boys, Blackburn Eagles.

Finally managed to drag myself down to a Lions game, and I must say I will have to do it again (more often) in the future. The Lions look like they have some good young prospects, with the standout being Ollie Betteridge. Comedy moment of the year was Gray of Sheffield being forced to ice by Simon Hunt and turning turtle, nothing untoward there, but it must have been a further five seconds before he took the gloves away from his head and sheepishly looked up to see if Huntie had disappeared, quality. Well done to the Lions for a great comeback.

Just to reitterate the post above, went down to the Lions game last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably 4 or 5 years since watched a lions game and was very impressed with level of play thought the speed of both teams was excellent. As a poster said above I also think the ref had a good game, seemed to keep control even though he was only knee high to a grasshopper as they say.
Will definately be at another game when panthers have blank weekend.

Will definately be at another game when panthers have blank weekend. That'll actually be the next Lions home game, on Sunday 11th November - hosting bottom-of-the-table Blackburn Eagles. In all honesty, it's not likely to be as tough a game as last night's match... although you can never take a Blackburn team for granted! (they're all nutters up there... ). However, Sunday December 16th sees the return of the Sheffield Senators to the Olympic Rink... and that game will be just after the Panthers host Belfast Giants (at a guess, there'll be 30-60 minutes between the two games... enough for a pint or two! ;D).

Just watched the Mark Hartley interview and he has certainly thrown down the gauntlet to the Lions for the return game at Sheffield. 'We're taking that for certain 100%' so the Lions need not turn up as this game is in the bag according to a rather dejected looking goalie after the 7-5 home win for the Lions. It will be a hard one to call as there will be a strong element of pay back from the Steelhawks in this one. Gonna be a tough old time in Steel City but hopefully a great game of hockey wiil be the oucome. A Lions win would be nice!

Absolutely right there Pucky and I stand corrected. That's twice this week that I have made the same mistake early Alzheimers kicking in? You are also right about Ice Sheffield being a bit of a stumbling block to the Lions and other sections of the Nottingham club on their visits. Refreshing getting a good win and Mark Hartley must be thinking about his prediction when interviewed following their last game against the Lions?

That's a damned good result for the Lions... that Sheffield team had been on 3-wins-out-of-3 before last Sunday... now we've done them over twice. Leaving the Lions as the only undefeated team so far in our division. Not bad, not bad...

Despite the Panthers taking the weekend off, there's still some senior hockey in Nottingham this weekend... top-of-table Nottingham Lions hosting basement-bandits Blackburn Eagles. Maybe not likely to be as hard-fought as the last home game, vs Sheffield (although you never know - how many times have we seen lower-ranking teams put up a hell of a fight?) but there's to see players both from the Panthers' past - Simon "Pocket Battleship" Hunt - and hopefully future... Josh Ward, Ollie Betteridge, Sam Gospel, etc.
Not bad for a fiver, eh?
This Sunday, Olympic Rink, 7:15pm face-off (possibly delayed)... see you there?
Oh - and there'll be some Movember muffins on sale, baked by Lions helper Charlotte... proceeds going to a good cause...

A new addition to the Lions with the signing of an 18 yr old Canadian of Peruvian origin, Jose Leon. He has played for the past couple of seasons in Switzerland but cut his hockey teeth in his home city of Toronto. He is studying at Nottingham Trent University. Leon is to make his debut at the home game against Blackburn Eagles this Sunday. No Panthers in Nottingham this weekend so give the Lions some good old Nottingham vocal support and greet the new guy.

Can't see Levers being risked to be honest as I believe Josh Ward picked up an injury whilst playing for the Lions earlier in the season. The Lions are doing ok as it is and may not need to call on any of the Panthers players. Blackburn Eagles tomorrow with Simon Hunt and the new import player icing. Could be an interesting game as Eagles really have nothing to lose given their status in the league at the moment. Complacency can certainly lose you games but I am sure Lions will take every game seriously wherever the opposition sit in the league as a couple of lapses in concentration and lowered intensity can cost games.

I thought Marc was on a two way deal, as it were, this season? If he's not going to play a game when Panthers are off for a weekend, why did they bother?

I don't know if he's going to play or not this weekend - don't think the Lions will need him, but maybe he'll ice to make sure he stays game-ready? Maybe his signing was a contingency thing, maybe not... I really don't know. From a personal POV, it would be nice to see him wear a Lions jersey again... the first Lions game I ever saw (back in the 2000-01 season, I think) he was the one player that stood out for me.... so it would be a nice bit of symmetry to see him on the same team again. We shall see...

I agree Shaggy it would be great to see him out there as I also remember him as a stand out player in those dark distant days, but I really doubt that the Panthers will agree to him playing tonight or any night for that matter. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the other two, Ward and Green will be seen either for the remainder of the season but there again you just never know? Sam Gospel has been doing well in nets and Betteridge, Wightman, Flats and Co aren't doing that bad a job at the moment.

Looks like former Lions goalie Rich Griffiths is back between the pipes with his former club Billingham Stars. After being told that he was no longer required Rich retired at the start of the season but with James Flavell moving to EPL Sheffield Steeldogs there's an opening for Griff.
