The Lions halt the Dragons tonight with a display of solid hard work putting in 60 mins of gritty determination to get the job done and without doubt they fully deserve this victory. Being away from Nottingham this weekend I have yet to obtain any stats but as soon as I have any further info I will let you know. Needless to say I and many others, I am sure, are well pleased with tonight’s result.

Today's result means that the Lions have equalled last seasons win tally (5) in just 10 outings this year. Very well done.

Contacted the Lions Head Coach Matt Bradbury who provided me with the stats from the team’s great win against the high flying Deeside Dragons.
Period Scores: 0-1/3-3/3-0 Scorers: Ales Padalek 3+1, Toby Fisher 2+2, Regan Kidd 1+0, Tyler Somerton 0+3, Matthew Bell 0+2, Lee Kemp 0+1 SOG: 50-29 MOM: Luke Birchnall Every player put in a real shift in this game with high intensity play just so apparent and it paid off. This Deeside team had played itself into a very strong position in the league having had a rather stuttering start to the season and achieved an eight game winning streak. Instrumental in the changes that led to this run were the addition of several new players including US import Jacob Witkowski who has proved a real star for the Welsh outfit. In the game last night Luke Birchnall, just back from injury, was presented with the unenviable task of man marking Witkowski throughout this game and his tenacity reduced this player to two assists and frustrated him immensely and that determination in sticking to the task earned himself a well deserved MOM.

NIHL 1 Games this weekend
Sat 09/11 Hull Jets v Deeside Dragons Leeds Knights v Billingham Stars
Sun 10/11 Deeside Dragons v Solihull Barons Sheffield Scimitars v Leeds Knights Widnes Wild v Whitley Warriors Blackburn Hawks v Nottingham Lions ( Face off: 6.00pm)
The Lions are on the road for their third meeting with the Hawks this season. On their first meeting earlier this season the Lions returned to Nottingham having provided a shock 3-5 win in front of a good sized home crowd. This was also the Hawks first league home game as they set out on their journey to build on the success of last season. The Hawks made up for that loss on their visit to Nottingham taking that game 0-4. So honours sort of even apart from the goal difference that favours the Hawks. There can be no doubt that the Hawks will set out to punish the Lions for the embarrassing home loss inflicted upon them and by the fact that three goals scored in that game were by youngster Alex Rushby. Gonna be a tough one this with a particularly warm Lancashire welcome from a noisy home crowd, I’m sure.

The Lions travelled to Blackburn down a couple of players who were not well so Ales Padalek and Sam Miller were unavailable for this game. The Hawks on the other hand had recently strengthened with the addition of ex Elite League player Andy McKinney to the squad. The Lions had a bit of a slow start to the game and the Hawks took advantage and by the end of the first period they were 3-1 ahead. The Lions rallied in the second holding the Hawks.to a 0-0 period and finished the third with the Hawks adding a fourth goal. Overall both teams came together to play hockey with each team only receiving just two minutes in penalties. The Lions managed to keep Adam Barnes one of the Hawks more prolific scorers very quiet and pointless in this game, quite an achievement. So our guys were certainly not shamed in this one and had the team been at full strength we may have seen a more positive result certainly the shots on goal were close. Stats: Period Scores: 3-1/0-0/1-0 Scorer: Toby Fisher SOG: 35-30 MOM: Isaac Ballinger (Netminder)

NIHL 1 Games this weekend
Sat 16/11 Billingham Stars v Widnes Wild Sheffield Scimitars v Solihull Barons Hull Jets v Nottingham Lions ( Face off: 5.30pm)
Sun 17/11 Billingham Stars v Hull Jets Solihull Barons v Blackburn Hawks Whitley Warriors v Deeside Dragons Widnes Wild v Sheffield Scimitars Leeds Knights v Nottingham Lions ( Face off: 6.00pm)
A double trip up to Yorkshire in store for the Lions this weekend as they face the Jets and the Knights. The first meeting with the Jets turned on one period as the game was tied in the other two. That second period saw the opposition score 5 unanswered goals and the Lions lost that home game 5-9. The Jets do have some depth and will certainly take full advantage of any errors forced or unforced by the Lions. The Jets inflicted a further defeat on the Deeside Dragons last Saturday 9-6. On Sunday it’s the turn of the Knights to try and overturn their defeat here in Nottingham 8-5. The Knights are the new boys to NIHL1 and they have pushed teams quite closely as they did the Lions in that home game. Leeds are an ambitious organisation and will be using this first season to gauge the opposition in this league and will be looking to entice quality players into the squad as this season progresses. This Knights team should not be underestimated as teams that turn up thinking the result a forgone conclusion do so at their peril. A 100% commitment by the Lions will be required to get points in either of these two games.
