I went to the game last night, was my first time. Shame about the result but was quite impressed with the team, some great potential there.

It was the first time I had gone to the Lions and I thought how good it was to see so many young players out on the ice. I understand that it is a real struggle to fund the Lions. Perhaps a bit more support from Panthers would also be in their interest. Great credit to all concerned.

Glad both of you enjoyed your first trip to see the Lions, shame it ended that way! Yes cooperphil, the Lions do struggle with funding, the players pay to play - and with registration, training fees & coach fares it's around £1k per season for the players to play - and that's not including kit and stuff like stick tape! The Lions are always looking for sponsorship, but it's difficult to find due to the Panthers, so if anyone can help us out then please let me know by PM or email nottinghamlions@gmail.comWe'll be having a couple of weeks break and then start planning for next season, so if anyone wants to help us out, or is interested in sponsorship then please get in touch!

A Panthers shirt was auctioned to help Newcastle Vipers at one match. I am not sure how much this was appreciated. Could one not be auctioned to help the Lions?

Saw Will Weldon has signed for Peterborough Phantoms - can anyone give us an idea on the sort of player I will be watching next year? He's a big lad for a young lad IIRC and isnt afraid to go to the net - he scored a goal for the Panthers at the back end of by going to the net. I could be completly wrong mind!!

Nottingham Lions today announce that Coach Martyn Etheridge will be stepping down from the Nottingham club for the upcoming season. Etheridge has been Lions coach for 3 seasons and led the Lions to the Playoff Championships at the Coventry Skydome in 2008/09, his first season, beating Southern Champions Invicta Dynamos on penalty shots after a tense final. The last two seasons have seen the Lions finish runners-up to the all-conquering Whitley Warriors in the League, as well as Playoff finalists in 2009/10. Coaching the Lions for the upcoming season will be Matt Bradbury, Paul Glossop, Simon Hopkins and Dan Harrison. Bradbury is returning to the team he first coached in EPL, and has spent time coaching in the Nottingham Junior Club, as well as the GB University teams that attended the World Student Games. Simon Hopkins also coached the GB University squad, as well as the Nottingham Mavericks, and has coached teams at the highly successful Nottingham Varsity Ice Hockey. Paul Glossop & Dan Harrison are both successful coaches within the Nottingham Junior Club, and are keen to pass on their knowledge to Lions players old & new. Matt Bradbury said “I will be overall Lions coach, but with having a young family and work commitments it is not possible for me to be at all Lions games, which is why we will have a team of coaches this year. I’ve worked with all the coaches before and I’m confident it’ll be the right move for the Lions.” Nottingham Lions will be holding open trials for players for the upcoming 2011/2012 season. The date is to be confirmed, but will be in June/July and will be held over 2 weeks. Sessions will be £10, and interested players are asked to email lionsmanager@virginmedia.com. Sponsors or anyone willing to help on match nights are please email nottinghamlions@gmail.com.

Final score Metros 5 Lions 3. Both teams had 6 in the box at one point apparently. More details when I get them.

Final score for the Lions tonight...
Lions 5 Sheffield Spartans 3
And it was a nail-biter... had a bit of everything... goals, hits, Nick Whyatt dropping the gloves, a washed-out goal, an unbelievable miss on an empty net, and a last minute winner! Who says ENL hockey can't be entertaining? ;D

Lions on way back from Cov, 4-1 win away from home - it wasnt prettty at times (period scores 0-1, 1-0, 0-3). Solid 3rd period, 4 points from 3 games you'll take that at thia early stage of the season. It woulf be great to see as maby people at next Sundays home game vs Trafford Metros. Panthers season ticket holders reduced admission of £3 instead of £5. Come along and get behind the boys in the ENL.

]The Lions next home game will be this Sunday, 18th September - Face-off 7:15pm. Against the Trafford Metros (Manchester).
The Lions are looking for another win to keep their flying start to the season going, and the Lions have the Metros in their sights, the last time the Lions and the Metros played each other on the 3rd of September both teams were involved 8 goal thriller, a 10 man punch up and 6 players from each side being given substantial time in the penalty box.....so this match should have it all.
Please come and support us and spur the lads on to another Win.
Lions 2011/2012 Ticket Prices:
Adults – £5.00 Students (with NUS card) - £4.00 Children & OAP’s- £3.00
Tickets are available on the night from the Arena Box office.
All players for the Nottingham Junior Ice Hockey Club are entitled to gain free entry to all Lions home games. All they have to do to gain free entry is to show their Hockey discount card to the ticket collectors at the bottom of the rink stairs or be wearing their Nottingham team shirt – Unfortunately there can be no exceptions. All accompanying adults are still subject to the full £5 admission price.
NEW!!!! - All Nottingham Panthers season ticket holders on production of their season ticket can watch the Lions for just £3.00 With the Panthers being on the road on Sunday up at Edinburgh this is a cheap hockey fix for all!
