Just got back from Manchester.....
Trafford 3 Lions 1.
Yes that says Trafford 3 Lions 1. We were woeful, awful, terrible and any other word you want to think of. Metros scored after just 76 seconds and, to be honest, we didn't deserve to get anything from this game. We were even outshot (although by 1).
So, the League........ Whitley won 11-2 against Kingston tonight, and Coventry beat Blackburn 3-2. Whitley play Telford tomorrow in a double-point game. If they lose that then we are still in the hunt. If they win then we HAVE to win every single game for the rest of the season. Losing another point will hand the title to the Warriors, and we will have to beat them in Whitley - which is not an easy thing to do.

Well that was an interesting weekend, it seems neither us or Whitley want to win the League... Telford 3 Whitley 3 in the double-point game at Telford yesterday which means they drop 2 points.
This means that the max number of points the Lions can get is 46, Whitley 44. However that means that we can only afford to drop a single point - and if we do, we really must win @ Whitley next month.
Lions play Telford at home next Sunday (14th) - Yes, it's Valentines Day!

If Lions & Whitley both win all their remaining games Lions must beat or draw with Whitley to take the league. A Whitley win would see both on level points and the league going to Whitley based on head to head games

What's happened to the new Lions web site? It hasn't been updated for a while plus no forum added as yet?

Result tonight - Coventry Blaze 4 Whitley Warriors 4. Good news! Whitley dropping a point means (if the EIHA website is up to date!) that Whitley are 3 points behind us... and now on equal number of games played! (hadn't realised they were catching up on the games in hand so quickly... not that I'm complaining! ;D). The Lions' title hopes are in their own hands now... it's Nottingham's to lose.

So if the Lions win all their remaining games they can afford to lose to Whitley an still win the league ;D This is true... but I'm sure that we'd prefer to beat them! Especially seeing as the series between the two teams is currently tied... we split the games here in Nottingham, and drew up at Whitley - so a win in the final game up at Whitley Bay would not only give us a great cushion points-wise, but would nail down a victorious season over the Warriors. Two years ago, the Lions won the league... I can't remember by how many points, but I'm sure that it was only 1 or 2. Last season, we lost out on goal difference... talk about close! This year I'd like us to take the title and do it decisively - ideally by at least 4 points.

Another step completed on the road to the title... Lions beat Telford 7-3 tonight.
It seemed like a fairly close match-up for most of the game, but the Lions kept their composure and pulled away nicely in the 3rd period after being at 2-2 for what seemed like ages. Quickly took it up to 4-2, but Telford pulled one back with a very well taken breakaway by their MoM Luke Brittle... and it seemed to stay at 4-3 for a fair while as well. Then the Lions moved up another gear and made sure of it.
MoM for the Lions was Tom Norton, who (like Josh Ward) came straight from the Panthers game to pull on a Lions jersey... Norts got 2 goals, I believe.
Next up are away trips to Coventry then Whitley... no home games for a month!

Good stuff and well done to Tom Norton. I thought he played some very steady shifts against Belfast and seemed to cope very well Physically.

I thought Tom had one of his best games in a Lions shirt on Sunday. Was steady at the back and looked like the player he was last year!
We now don't have another home game for a month - facing Blackburn on 14th March. This Saturday sees us travel to Coventry Skydome, before heading to Whitley Bay on 7th March for our final away game of the League season.

Lions have had a weekend off and are preparing for the trip to Whitley Bay to take on the Warriors in a crunch game.
The weekend results: Saturday: Coventry 4 Blackburn 2 Trafford 7 Kingston 3 Sunday: Blackburn 6 Kingston 3 Telford 4 Trafford 3 Whitley 4 Coventry 1.
Whitley have now caught up in games played and we both now have played 25. The Lions are still 2 points ahead, and we'll need to get at least a point when we face the Warriors in their rink on Sunday 7th. If we lose it would not automatically mean Whitley will win the League. We, however, would need to beat both Blackburn & Sheffield on home ice.
The following applies if we both end up on level points, but will only come into play if we draw with Whitley on Sunday, as points, goals and games won will be the same.
From the EIHA Rules of Competition:
It has been confirmed that Kingston have been relegated, and that Nottingham, Whitley and Sheffield have qualified for the playoffs. The other 3 playoff places are still to be decided with Coventry, Blackburn, Telford & Trafford fighting for the final 3 places.
We do have spaces available on the coach to Whitley, and will be just £5 each. Departure time is TBC but will be around 1pm. If you're interested in going and aren't going to Hull then please PM me ASAP. I will be able to confirm number of seats on Thursday and will reply to any PM's with the confirmed departure time.
