Saying Cage is rubbish is a popular but lazy attitude. Too many people say it who don't actually know much about movies. For everyone's sake, I've made a list of some of Cage's best movies. Wild At Heart is awesome. Some of the others are pleasantly watchable. Wild At Heart 8MM The Rock Face Off City of Angels Matchstick Men Leaving Las Vegas Raising Arizona Family Man (cheesy but good) Most are from the 90s when movies were really good! Dismissing someone else's opinion as lazy just because it happens to be popular is, erm, lazy. There are many pleasantly watchable films with Cage in them. That doesn't make them great films though, and it certainly doesn't make Cage a great actor. Taking one from near the top of your list as an example ... The Rock is a very watchable film. Especially if you don't feel like thinking. That said Cage's performance is no more convincing than Connery's - and that's bad.

I generally enjoy Nick Cage films, but the other night watched The Wicker Man. It was truly dreadful.
Everyone has their own taste in films at the end of the day, so no point in bickering about which film is better or who is a worse actor.

Films I've seen recently(ish)
Star Trek- Really enjoyed it, very good. Transformers- Again very good, thought it was better than the first. Terminator- OK. Just something about it that didn't overly impress me. Harry Potter- Good/Very good, would have been excellent had they kept in the battle scene at the end, I just can't see why they dumped such a potentially exciting part of the film.

video.yahoo.com/watch/1810028004/14824147the trailer for Fantastic Mr Fox. the animation looks great, but why cast americans to voice the characters? this unsettles me greatly. i pictured all the animals to sound like the cast of monty python when i was reading it, when i was little. you know, like John Cleese with his overly english accent. everything about this film looks great, but i just cant get over the voices, i mean george clooney, meryl streep and bill murray? all quality but wrong for this project.

There's a lot of stuff here that works and a lot that doesn't. It's a good thing that the robots do work. Seeing autobots and decepticons in glorious photo-realistic CGI is enough to wring out any childhood fantasy from anybody (not just boys from the 80s). Watching these robots move is to realize a revelation to what is possible with modern movie effects. Jobs Whether it's transforming on the move, bashing the living daylights out of each other, or just standing and talking, these guys alone make the movie work. And unlike the other blockbusters that have came Stellenmarkt out this year, these effects have a sense of weight that adds so much to the visual satisfaction.

i am so desperate to see 'Where the Wild Things Are'. the book is a childhood favourite of mine and have loved the trailers so far. for those who haven't read the book, it is about a boy called max, who, one night, gets up to alot of mischief making and gets sent to bed without any supper. once in bed, a new strange world starts to grow and grow and grow. max sails around the world until he reaches the shore of a new land and the inhabitants are wild things. the wild things try to scare max and he stares them down and becomes their king. the wild rumpus begins but after a while, he gets homesick (he wants to go where someone loves him best of all) and sails round the world, back to his room to where his supper is waiting for him, and its still hot. the book is only 10 sentences long, so it is going to be interesting to see how Spike Jonze is going to make it last 90 minutes or so, but from the trailer it looks very very special... filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2009/08/where-the-wild-things-is-atfilmdrunk.uproxx.com/2009/08/where-the-wild-things-is-atfilmdrunk.uproxx.com/2009/08/where-the-wild-things-is-at(the trailer is at the bottom)

Seems a pity that Jonze could only manage a PG rating for a pre-school book though (not that it'll stop us seeing it). Thanks for the tip-off.

Harry Brown was good.
Also just seen The Third Man on DVD and was very pleasantly surprised - a cracking film! Don't know why I'd not heard of it before, though the theme music is very familiar.

Has anyone seen Paranormal activity? I have an afternoon free tomorrow and might go and watch it. I haven't seen a good film for ages, the last one being Inglorious and that was lame.

Whilst I generally enjoy Nick Cage films (and I admit there have been some bad ones of late) I watched Knowing on DVD. Very poor all round. He spent the whole film looking like someone had poohed in his pudding, and despite a good start to the film it went on for to long and had quite a lame ending.
We watched Inglorious at the cinema when it came out and thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially the bear jew.

you didnt enjoy inglorious basterds? how so? I don't quite know what it was about the film that I didn't like, other than there being no character development save Hans Landa, the time line bounced around the war & there was no reason as to the establishment of the Inglorious as a group and the ending, which was just silly. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting Schindler's list, but I just left the cinema thinking WTF?

I absolutely lapped up Basterds. It was sensational, one of the films of the year. It was never going to be about character development, only storyline. The establishment of the group was explained as much as it needed to be in my eyes, the ending is supposed to be silly.
I loved it. Can't wait to buy the blu-ray.

im a big fan of james cameron, particularly aliens and terminator. but i am not a fan of his cliche ridden films that he has directed in the latter portion of his career.
ive heard avatar is full of these cliche's and think this would frustrate me alot.
in other news, where the wild things are really is something special. follows the premise of the book as close as a 10 sentence story can. it really is a wonderful tale about the inner conflicts and relationships one will have with them throughout ones life.
im still a bit upset that Bernard was referred only as The Bull though. he was my favourite as a child. i would still recommend the film to anyone though.

just watched the trailer for legion. it looks amazing. especially the granny in the diner telling the female lead that her baby is going to burn. from what i can gather, the end of the world is going to happen, charlie's unborn baby is 'the chosen' one to save mankind. a rogue angel cuts off its wings and goes renegade (becoming our hero) and decides to use guns instead of sweet angel weapons. a horde of angels come down to earth to have a big fight and to try and kill charlie and in turn her baby. the film looks amazing from this trailer, but in this day and age, trailers are the best parts of the films. here is the official site, with a green band trailer appropriate for all viewers (well its got less gore and no bad language) www.sonypictures.com/movies/legion/though i recommend you find the red band trailer, which is for adults only as it has a swearing granny.
