All the playing/non playing staff for the on ice product received the same 'letter of intent' back in June. They all come under the same umbrella. What’s that mean in English then ? That all were/are available to seek other opportunities on the basis that the Panthers org. were/are committed to playing this season where possible. Note this was at the time back when the letters were issued. So in short go get a new gig if you so wish, we aren't going to offer you anything concrete until we can.

Sadly inevitable. Interesting part for me is 'may not include all teams'. Suspect NB's teams & one other for sure will abscond from the whole season. I would agree keeping open the 0.001% chance there is of having a part-season early next year, as it is theoretically possible things might improve enough to allow playing. Though it has to be done with all 10 teams in my view. If not it's just another mockery that'll require yet another asterisk in the record books that fans of all the non-winning teams won't ever recognise. If they can't do a part season with all 10 clubs, then 100% close off any prospect of a 20/21 season at that point.

I don't want to be accused of being negative again so I'm treading a fine line here.... But, that said, it's yet another press release with mixed messages from the EIHL teams. Some clearly have intent to do all they can, others don't have that same intent & never have had from the outset. Why not just come to one decision that is clear & concise?

All non playing staff.. does that included Green, Strachen, Doucet & GM ? On the Belfast thing.. they might be considering their future but they've still taken all the season ticket money on DD every month with no update to any of their season ticket holders.

No matter what their intention is/ever was.

No argument from me on that point, the PR work has still been very poor, which is even more damning since there isn't exactly a lot else for the remaining staff to do. This was an opportunity to show the league is acting as one and singing off the hymn sheet, but it looks like it'll be another mish-mash done piecemeal.
If there is a part season next year and some of the clubs choose to abstain, I can't see them being particularly happy with the clubs that did choose to go ahead anyway. Which can only lead to further troubles down the road that nobody needs.

why would the clubs be 'not happy' with those that choose to try and salvage something. As long as it's safe to do so I see no reason why clubs shouldn't at least attempt to put on some Hockey for those that want to see it. If a club can't afford to run for a shortened season then that's too bad for them, I guess those that can will be looking at limiting losses rather than making vast profits so it's not as though the ones that can't are missing out on much.

OR the Giants keep the money and if they ice 21/22 you get your name inscribed into the ice, special jersey, food and drink vouchers worth £50 ( in addition to the £20 from the cancelled games )....

It might see a small deal but it ain't that simple. The costs will be extortionate even for a watered down mini season.. Then if the cities who take part go into localised lockdowns.. then that would finish it off totally.. see you next August? You'll be lucky

I've not listened to Blacky's interview on the OS, but this doesn't sound like he won't be looking to do something, if possible, in the new year:
"He told PanthersTV, with Jeremias, that it was impossible to go-ahead at the moment BUT if government guidelines and support was to change the Panthers would be at the front of the queue looking to get something going in the new year."

If that's the official line then fair play, it's the right thing to say at the current time.

As a businessman, it's really his only response at the moment. Keep fans on side and leave it up to Boris

The decision to suspend as opposed to cancel is the right one in my mind.
The interviews that Black and Kelman have done today suggest that they’re hoping for government funding to come in and bridge the gap left by capped attendances. Who knows whether this will happen or not but at least the league or keeping themselves in the picture.
If we weren’t to have any hockey until September 2021 I believe it would have a big impact on fan bases and attendances would decline quite a lot. Even if all teams don’t take part in Jan/Feb, we still need a hockey season.

Have to say kudos to Panthers - kept their powder dry - no bragging about signings - no promises - let other clubs make lots of noise .

Stuck to the hymn sheet the whole way & kept it as minimalist as possible. Certainly not looking as 'daft' as some other clubs with their multiple statements & inevitable retractions which were doing nothing other than providing false hope for their many unwashed.

Dundee will love that. Take away their away fans attending from Fife and potentially Clan and Panthers and they’ll struggle to make even a short season pay.

Certainly not looking as 'daft' as some other clubs with their multiple statements & inevitable retractions which were doing nothing other than providing false hope for their many unwashed. Yes it's always embarrassing as you suggest when someone makes a statement, changes their mind and tries to rewrite stated history and then continue on pretending they never made the previous statements. Definitely see how that could cause a credibility issue. Surely much better just to say, "I said this as I believed it to be true at the time but have since changed my position in light of recent events". Is that the better track? As Dominic Cummings found out it never pays to try and overwrite past statements with the benefit of current knowledge as... More likely many of us can but we don’t feel the need to keep whining on about the same bloody again and again and again... Fine. I'll not mention the topic again. ...there's always someone who remembers the original. Fine. I'll not mention the topic again. I'm done for the thread. Hallelujah, only 40 pages too late! Is that what you're getting at? Not having a go - if you're not done for the thread any more you're not done - but just pointing out unacknowledged retraction seems to be a natural instinct you're talking about? Maybe we should all be a bit more minimalist and slower to post on here too and avoid the danger of later retractions, acknowledged or not? I know I'm not the only one for whom large swathes this potentially interesting thread has felt like publicly posted DM insults with only occasional content. Even you yourself apparently had had enough of the thread once when someone else made that point. Or was statement just providing false hope for the "unwashed" of the Cage too?

Point understood & taken. I edited my original post as the topic was bound to move on past a certain point as it did yesterday. That was all I did it for really.
As for the theme of the post, well you can take that or leave it, there are many posters here who post with far more ferocity on the topic than me. For some reason I've been singled out again but I'm big enough to deal with that.
If you don't like how someone posts here then I'd advise just use the ignore function, simple fix.

Certainly makes sense for Dundee,so potentially only five or six teams then if there was a shortened season. Yet Fox and the Steelers still banging on that they could put a team together in 3 weeks. Not much point in that though unless the other teams could do the same, but it’s likely a different kettle of fish attracting players to Sheffield than it is to some of the smaller low paying teams.

With the latest announcements and regs potentially upto 6 months do we think next season hangs in the balance?
