With the latest announcements and regs potentially upto 6 months do we think next season hangs in the balance? Expect an EIHL announcement today that the new revised potential start date is now April 1st. Oh and Aaron Fox to announce he can put a team together in one week ! 🙄😆

With the latest announcements and regs potentially upto 6 months do we think next season hangs in the balance? Ultimately too soon to tell, as it could all change again by next week, and then each week after that!
In principal though, my own workplace who were originally projecting April for a phased return back to offices, says the latest measures could set those plans back by at least 6 months. So if I'm still full-time home working this time next year, there is just no way I could tenably go to an ice rink for entertainment purposes at the same time.

Whilst it would be a massive change, if it is the only way to play games which generate enough money to sustain the league (and do salaries) then go for it. There is increasing evidence that those who catch COVID but display no symptoms can still have long lasting effects so this would likely protect those players at the start of their careers.

Goals scored since the draft ..
Lafreniere 0 Byfield 0 Stüzle 0
Raymond 5 (SHL)
I think I'll take it I'd rather our players get good icetime than have a year out or play in a non contact league! (OHL)

Fantastic new on the vaccine so far. Just hope that it works well and we can all take our seats for next season.

While its positive news and a step forward .. thinking of next season is a long way off.. theres not even talk of allowing fans in outdoor stadiums to 100% capacity and there's no indication thats changing anytime soon

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/54998979How will the funding that IH receives be used. I can't see it being given to clubs to pay wages and run a shortened league season. So how will this benefit EIHL teams, if at all ?

Thankfully the £4 million is for the EIHL Reading on THF and it seems that this money is earmarked for English sports only, so in theory just for 5 teams. Although not clear how much is a grant and how much of it is a loan.

What I'm curious to see is whether it's just being used to tide over till next season starts or whether it's a catalyst from some form of spectator less hockey.
If it's the former, is it not a quite an extreme amount? £400k-800k seems a lot to keep the ship steady. If it's the latter, are clubs willing to gamble on getting hundreds of webcasts every game necessary to play, even with the funding proposed. Although I imagine this very much depends on the nature of funding, I.e grant vs loan.

It will be interesting to see but 'hopefully' fingers crossed it will keep all teams afloat until the beginning of next season with full seats 'if' the vaccine works well enough

Not sure a 5 team league will be great!

The BBC site it was (I think) that named the EIHL plus the bit about "spectators" would reinforce that

Oh I love the line from the EIHL announcement referring to the various UK ice hockey bodies where it says..... “it just shows what can be done when you work together”.
Haha can’t wait to see that, they’ve been working against each other for donkey’s years, they’ll all be falling out again soon about how to spend the £4 million quid. 🤣🤣🤣
