Nice result guys.
Is that an Elite record?
I remember the ISL one was 12 held by Belfast, but I don't recall a bigger score in the Elite?

Nice result guys. Is that an Elite record? I remember the ISL one was 12 held by Belfast, but I don't recall a bigger score in the Elite? I seem to remember Coventry beating Manchester 12-1 or something like that during EIHL season 1. We might be the first team this season to hit double figures though?

According to the EIHL website report: "They also set several season records - the biggest winning margin (9), equalled goals scored by a team (10), recorded the most goals by a team in a period (7). Trevor Gallant also set a player record with 6 points that included an assist record of 5."

Very poor first period with both teams unable to pass to a colleague. Wooly looked unsure but managed to keep a clean sheet. Second period became a bit of a Trevor Gallant masterclass with him pulling the strings and Murphy in the Caps goal being shell shocked. Third period was a breeze with the Caps players wanting to here the final buzzer. You would expect to be excited what with the scoreline but strangely no. A pat on the back for the few Caps fans who made the journey. I know how you feel gggranville. I should be buzzing after a ten-goal blast, but strangely I left the rink feeling slightly muted. I was pleased that Gallant slotted in so effortlessly onto the McAslan and Stevens line, and it was nice to give the younger members of the side a run out, but several things left me feeling uneasy about the game. Firstly was the over-zealous way many fans celebrated after the fifth, sixth, seventh etc. I think we all knew that the Caps had been grinded down with no prospect for a comeback, but the way fans were wildly cheering around me in Block 13 seemed way OTT to me. My frustration was multipled further with stupid and random announcements from the DJ asking for noise from the three Edinburgh fans, and to top it off we get plays of 'We're Gonna Win' on two or three occasions towards the end of the third period - very classless from the matchnight crew as far as i'm concerned. Possibly even worse was the way a large proportion of the home fans lapped this up. I'm not sure who I was more disappointed with in truth. All of which left me with a sour taste in my mouth, which is a shame as I was wanting to appreciate a good effort from the Panthers players at the end of the game, and not get caught up in an artificially-euphoric atmosphere which I felt engulfed the NIC.

A sour taste in your mouth? Sounds like someones gone soft to be honest, no disprespect aimed at you, but as i've pointed out on the other thread im a panthers fan and not a fan of anyone else and as such if we give someone a pasting then good for us i really couldnt give a dam if the other team weren't up to the table tonight.
Easy win, boring game, well done Trev is all i can say really

Couldn`t agree more! I really don`t get that attitude that prevails amongst a small section of the fanbase.I feel it`s quite patronising to be honest. How often do we get the chance to see our team be ruthless and finish off the opposition? Not enough if you ask me! I know i`ve seen us sit back a few times(too many) and be complacent when we have a 2-3 goal lead, only for it to come and bite us on the backside! Firstly was the over-zealous way many fans celebrated after the fifth, sixth, seventh etc...... Whats wrong with getting behind the team when they have a good victory? What should we all do then, sit there quietly,in case it upsets the poor, ickle hockey players? Do this element of the fanbase think that fans from any other club would refrain from cheering loudly if their team gave us a major league battering? Not a chance!! They`d delight in seeing Nottingham Panthers getting stuffed!!

It's not very British to cheer loudly if we win...it's also wrong to boo if we lose. Let's all just sit there in utter silence, & enjoy the spectacle laid forth before us. Hurrah!

Was good to see Woolie to the "Rasto" at the end. Bless him. He didnt look comfortable doing it at first though. Tonight was certainly not our best performance of the season (or most exciting). Edinburgh are a very poor team current at the lowest point of the season anything other than a convincing (score line anyway) win would have been embarrassing. After the first period I wondered why I had wasted my Sunday evening but we outclassed them and got a morale boosting victory. Glad when rasti back as geoff is doin a good job, not great, I personally don’t have faith in him in important games as he is prone to making errors. He does make some good saves to but he’s no number 1. Gallant, Stevens & MacAslan looking an awesome prospect as our first line. Ok only played Basingstoke and Edinburgh this weekend but its produced 8 goals and with more time to gel looks very healthy. P.S if anyone’s get any shares in BMI get rid now! If the kit giveaway is all the elite league games then after us and Coventry tonight profits are gona take a battering. 100% agreed. And IMO if rasta was in net it would of been a clean sheet, complete shut out. Yet another simple save that turned into a goal off geoffs shoulder. Good to see a win, even if the game was not too exciting other than the goals going in. Gallant 8 points from 2 games, Can only be good for future games.

Very good win tonight, as Jono said, "you can only beat what's put in front of you" and Panthers did just that.
I too felt some sympathy for Edinburgh, they've had a rough ride lately and playing "We're gonna win" was, in my opinion, below the belt. No need to rub it in.
Let's hope for a strong run into the playoffs.

Give the Capitals their due they kept on playing, think if the skate had been on the other foot we would have thrown in the towel way before the end of the game.

I dont think we needed to rub it in. I celebrated every goal but why not, ive never seen my team score 10 or win by 9. ive learnt to celebrate every moment of glory you can and try to not let the bad times get to you.
However i do feel the situation could have been handled differently and more professionally by the DJ team as the request for a cheer and 'were gona win' was a bit of a kick whilst your down.

Why shouldn't we rub it in? If it were a big road defeat......they would!!!! Exactly ,.. we (as a rink) are extremley nice to visiting fans and teams,,..no intimidation ,.no nastiness,. I'm sure I'm not the only one whos been to cov ? Cov's rink team do delight in having a dig,.. playing things like " in over your head" when the away team skates on the ice,..the pink panther thing,. Then theres the Newcastle announcer,.. Thers nothing wrong with this,.. its their home ice,.. but we dont usually do this,.. we are too nice. Stop sitting back and tutting and try shouting a bit more,.. Jezz, you could have heard a pin drop first period,.. I thought I was back at meadow lane for a minute !!..All I needed to see was a couple of tartan travelling rugs over some knees.... ;D

Waiting until the very end to play "We're Gonna Win" (which is, if you all remember, the usual song when the Panthers WIN - by one goal or nine!) is not rubbing it in. They could have played that song at the end of the second period - there was no way the Caps were coming back from that scoreline - couldn't they? Now that would have been rubbing it in! At least they waited until the very end! I dunno - if the team take their foot off the gas after getting a lead of a few goals, they get slated - if they score a shedload of goals, they get slated. If the fans are quiet and don't get behind the team, they get slated - if they cheer after x number of goals, they get slated. If the off-ice club types don't show the killer instinct, don't display a "winning mentality", they get slated - if they do go for the throat, they get slated. Is anyone going to make their mind up exactly what IS wanted around here? [glow=red,2,300] "Gonna whinge Don't want to have a happy, gonna whinge Cos whingeing really is the only thing Get out of the way of wanting wins You want to be a fan just don't you say a thing Does anybody really want to sing It's got to be a load of nothing Oh we're gonna be the champions Of moaning all the way - we're gonna whinge, whinge"[/glow] And we, the fans, have the temerity to criticise the club, the owner, the GM, the players - the whole lot of them - for having the wrong attitude? We don't ruddy DESERVE to win.

I thought it was a bit unnecessary, but Shaggy does have a point.
Caps had 4 imports last night, or was it 5? 1 import forward (Cingel)? We beat a BNL team, effectively, but I thought they did tremendously well. They always looked to know where the net was, and got some decent shots in. They looked likelier to score first. There have some very good young players who played their hearts out last night. Our 3rd line, if it has a fault, needs to shoot more, and not just dump the puck in the corners. It's noticeable that the 2 wingers get the puck and immediately head for the corners. Wonder what would happen if they went through the traffic and crashed the net a bit? Anyway. Gallant is wayyyyyy too good for this league. He's about 3 yards faster than anyone in a yellow shirt and the way he gets open all the time is something else. Lay off the pass, get open. Far too clever. If that's DEL hockey, no wonder the Germans love it. Just shows you how good (but unsustainable) the ISL was. Thought The D was a bit poor last night, Caps had a few good scoring chances in the first. If that top line can keep going, cautiously optimistic.

Even though we looked good after the first dodgy period I still think we go to sleep at times at the back. We must learn how to protect our goalie a bit more and clear our lines, too many sloppy passes out of defence that always cost us dear against better opposition

Was anyone else concerned - or even impressed?- by how often the Capitals managed to take the puck from a wayward Panthers pass or by getting in the way of a good one?
That said, I think it was great to see the guys finally run riot last night. Certainly the family I had with me enjoyed it after seeing such performances as the 60th Anniversary game... Yes, it did feel a little like bullying toward the end with the goals coming thick and fast, but I can't criticise that- I'd expect it. As Shaggy has already said, we should be finishing teams off more. At what point do we say 'that's enough, we won't bother scoring any more'? And how would the fans feel if Ellis made that suggestion?
Playing "We're Gonna Win" happens any time the Panthers appear to have sealed the victory and play stops within the last two or three minutes. Remember it's also a sponsor's jingle so it may even be contractual- but I've got no way of knowing that.

But you lose control of the puck. It's a bit like "route 1" football. And we really didn't need to wear them out did we? And hasn't it helped us in all our games against the Steelers? Bottom line, we struggle against that type of defence. See games vs Steelers and Hull. Not pretty to watch, and we don't seem able to break it down. Caps played a good positive game last night. Their brit lines created more chances than ours, I thought.
